Portugal in November and Vegas at Christmas.
Was aiming for Vegas in November as usual but with Portugal arriving on the scene and the fact that my good friend Paulie will be in Vegas over Xmas/New year I have opted for Vegas in December.
I would have a problem spending 2 weeks away from work during the festive period. But working on one week, departing 20/12/12 returning 27/12/12. This would seem to be a given (with the option of a further week if I can swing it).

Is this the start of the demise of the Euro, are Ireland bringing the Punt back by the back door. Now I am sure I have some of them old notes from the time I left in 1988. Excuse me for a bit, while I find them and book a trip to Clones....

On the 12th of this month I awoke to find an email from the national lottery headed 'news about your ticket'. I rushed over to the site and was a little bit disappointed to find that I had won £6.20. I even got rubbed down by a prominent member of the community who said he had won more. No problem I am pragmatic enough to say profit is profit.
Imagine my surprise when I awoke this morning to find that I had another ‘News about your ticket’ email. Well now last night there was a draw for 18 millionaires and of course there was always the ‘BIG’ one. With mounting expectation I went to the web site and logged in. Would it be another £6.20 if so it will only take me 238,095 weeks to become a millionaire. Well imagine my surprise when it wasn’t £6.20 oh no it was the princely sum of £3.00. I run so good.

Last night at the aquarium I played my usual tight passive game
and made the final table a wee bit short stacked, but I did not have to re-enter so that was a Brucie bonus. The final table ebbed and flowed and then my AQ with a flopped Q was defeated by J9 with a turned J and a rivered 9. Not deterred I girded my loins and went on to use that much maligned skill of ‘all in or fold’.
It worked, behind three times double up three times. Then it got better and when the whistle was blown there were three of us left and I was the chip leader against the two Bird brothers.
Bragging rights, points for the freeroll and a cash bonus to pay for the numerous pints of the foaming nectar.
Priceless………………

Bit of a sports day I suppose, Play offs (yawn), Rugby should be a cracking game with Leinster slight favourites. Then it’s that other game, now I have no axe to grind either way and I can’t really say who I would like to win. They have both done the hard work in the semi-finals and on balance it should be close. Looking at some FB posts it would seem opposition supporting is the name of the game

Looking at flights for Vegas over Christmas and came up with an interesting anomaly.
If I go for miles and money with Virgin Premium economy both ways it is coming in at £1,007 + 7,500 air miles.
If I book Economy out and Premium economy back without miles, it is £913, I can then upgrade the outward leg to Premium economy for 10,000 air miles.
A saving of £94 – will be keeping an eye on the prices and taking advice from the travel guru……………

My email for last night's win didn't arrive till gone 5pm today.
As an experienced winner do you have any advice on how I should invest my £3?

£3... around $5?....
Hmmm I'd probably plan ahead, and get a video message done to anyone who turns up at my funeral from me via

"Say it with ease, with the girl dressed as peas"
Ending with a big thumbs up. Everyone appreciates dancing peas at a funeral.

I've never been able to figure out whether you can book in and out in different levels of service in a single (or two one-way) bookings so I'll have to look into it.
Of course, I'm hoping to book Economy and upgrade to Upper. Probably in the £1100 range + 50,000 miles
Plus, you're flying from MAN so that might make a difference.

So last night was fun at the tables when in the PLO the flop came 235 with me holding A4xx. The betting then screamed at me that JP could only have 46 but my tiny brain refused to hit the fold button. My mistake and with no outs, a stupid play. But never mind move on LOL.
I bubbled the money in the NLHE when as shorty on the final table I shoved my 99 only to run into JJ however as always it was good craic with good people.
Congratulations to the winners and medalists of both disciplines.

Now the WH poker site…..
Whilst I have not entered the debate around the WH site (I only play the APAT on there so am not a regular user), I now empathise with the people who have issues as a couple of times last night I was sure that I had bet only for the site to lag and then realise that I was folded and in ‘sit out’ mode. I thought it was me (or the Fresca kicking in) Reading the forum however, it has happened too often to others to be isolated. It really is not good enough from a ‘Big’ company and coupled with their poor customer service (threatening to block people’s emails if they complain FFS) it is really not on.
I love APAT and all it stands for and will support it to the hilt whenever I can, even on really poor non caring poker sites. But it really is frustrating…..

Now you lot may know that I have a wedding to attend to next Saturday. It is a very good friend of mine and occasional APATer so it is not to be missed. You also may have guessed that it clashes with the Welsh National which is disappointing. I love meeting up and having the craic, but the wedding on Saturday is a must.
However I have a plan hatching in the deep recesses of my befuddled brain………..
