2017 WSOP Fantasy Poker "Steve Ball challenge".. Staker game
« on: March 13, 2017, 17:37:08 PM »
Hi folks its coming up to that time of year again when the WSOP hits Vegas!!..

Although it doesnt start until end of May as per usual im already looking at forming my 10 player team for this years game. So im gauging early interest to see how many we can get to join in again after previous years of success.

I have decided to keep the rules more or less exactly the same as last year as i believe it made for a fairer scorer system as those we had in the years previous to that.

http://www.apat.com/forum/index.php/topic,19768.0.html

The scoring system will be the same as last year where players who make deeper runs are more rewarded.

1st -  25 pts
2nd - 18 pts
3rd - 15 pts
4th - 12 pts
5th - 10 pts
6th -  8 pts
7th -  6 pts
8th - 4 pts
9th - 2 pts
cashing 1 pt

Six handed tables will be.. cash 1 point up to 7th, then top 6 will be rewarded as above.
8 handed tables the same.. cash 1 point up to 9th, then 8th as above
HU events.. winner 25 points, RU 18 points, SF all guaranteed 15 points, Quarter finals guaranteed 12 points and so on.

No categories, substitutes or captains, so just select 10 players of your choice and watch them run

The only change to the rules is there will be NO late registration.. this is partly down to me being away when the first few events kick of end of May start of June so therefore the cut off period will be Friday 26th May so that gives people plenty of time to do their homework. John has indicated that he may well continue to do the scoring like the last few seasons, but if he feels he wants to take a step back then i will need a volunteer with spreadsheet skills to fill his boots.. bearing in mind that we will be running this alongside Staker again as Des has kindly agreed to donate a national seat ticket to outright winner again, i believe the scoring will be running on the same thread as last year again but im sure Des will comment when appropriate.

Schedule for events..

http://www.wsop.com/tournaments/

I would like to also as a mark of respect call the game the "Steve Ball challenge".. as many of you are aware Steve lost his battle with Cancer just recently. Steve was a member of Blue Blood poker and also a APAT supporter playing both online and Live APAT events. Steve loved playing the fantasy Poker game and won it two years ago and finished third last year no mean feat!
Along with the £10 entry fee to play the game i would also like to see if we can raise a few quid for the charity that Steve and his family supported, this is entirely optional and bears no outcome on the rules and prizes so if you can dig deep and donate a couple of quid it will go to a very worthy cause..

As i have stated plenty of time as yet to do your homework and find the winning combination, will Mercier continue to crush this year or did he peak last year?.. Will some of last years under performers hit the heater and score heavy this year? or maybe some of the new players who did well last year continue their WSOP rise.

Luca is the reigning champ so will he be knocked off his throne this year  ;D

Comment on here or PM me on FB whenever you have picked your team and want to be added to the table.

Just had a message from last years champion Luca..

As added value APAT awarded a £75 national event ticket to winner.

Luca has very kindly volunteered up 20% of any winnings he receives from using this added value when he competes in WCOAP to be added to the prizepool of this years game.

Luca has asked me to ask you guys which tournament you would like the ticket to be used in we will go with the majority closer to WCOAP.

Events playing..

8game

Shootout

Six Max

Antes Only

Very kind of Luca for doing this..

My vote is for Six Max or shootout .. Six Max will have a decent prizepool, Shootout the format is like winning a SNG to make min cash then freeroll on FT

Really great that you're running this again this year Carl, and very nice gesture to title it in Steve's honour.  A top man, who will be missed.

We will of course contribute an APAT national seat to the Fantasy Poker prize pool.

APAT will add a prize pool to our Staker competiton which will run alongside.  More details of that to follow.

Thanks Carl/Des, will be playing again this year, and although never knew or met Steve, will be happy to give a few extra quid towards the charity. May or may not do the staker, didn't really do that well with it last time, but we'll see.

Every year, we have seen a few APAT or LPPL players doing really well at the WSOP, going really deep in events. At the end of each Series, we have seen that choosing them would have been a better option than some of the famous players we did select, even though the famous deadbeats were playing everything and our guys can only do a few events each.

So here's a thought - what do people think of the idea that you have to include at least one APAT or LPPL player in your team? As they can only play a few, maybe tweak the scoring if they cash - double points or something? We know the names of a substantial group going early in the Series, http://www.apat.com/forum/index.php/topic,20064.0.html, plus numerous others always make the trip.

Thoughts?

Have left it a while to comment as was hoping for some feedback from others.. seems a lack of interest this year if I'm honest John.. Think maybe leave it as things are and see how many runners we get, then perhaps have a "wild card" option? (Team of 11)..

Yeah, leave well enough alone, I guess, if there isn't interest in changing it.

I'm still gonna highlight any of our guys who do well.
