UK Amateur Poker Championship 2009 - Discussion
« on: December 28, 2008, 09:59:20 AM »
I have just been on trying to find out more about Walsall - a venue I"ve not played at before - and how to get there.

Flights to Birmingham (Friday/Saturday to Monday) are available for less than £40 Return on www.bmibaby.com from Glasgow, £47 Return from Edinburgh. A Taxi from Birmingham Airport (B26 3QJ) to Grosvenor Walsall (WS2 0LE) would appear to be the quickest option at just 25 minutes.

I"m gonna be trying like a bear to make this Event so would appreciate any input from APATers who"ve played here before, done the travelling bit and who can recommend a place to stay.

We drove there, its a nice drive, took about 5 hrs I think.

We stayed at the Premier Inn Walsall.  Its a nice hotel, cheap and clean and comfortable with a restaurant and bar (some sort of Beefeater) right next door and within walking distance of the casino.  £49 a night for the room.

Neil, just spoken to Caz who has put me straight on the hotel situation in Walsall.

We stayed at the Quality Hotel, and Caz minded me that it wasn"t "quality". Mary"s suggestion is the one to go with.

The Village Hotel is directly across the roundabout from the venue, a short walk, small cardroom itself.

Caz and I stayed at a hotel in Dudley the other year when I was running a sound and vision system for some conference or other.

The hotel was ace and behind it was the canal - I seem to remember thinking that it all looked rather relaxing and almost romantic....... I must have had a drink or two  ;D

The Village is highly recommended across the M6 bridge a very high standard hotel, with good breakfast and a health club and swimming pool (where you will find Des most mornings)

They are currently doing B&B deals for £59 / room

...and you enjoyed every minute of it!!

I think the advice for anyone driving this time is to leave early to avoid massive hold-ups that are bound to happen again on the M6.

There must have been 20-odd people who were late because of the accident last year.  But other than the M6 being the M6, the casino is very easy to get to.

I think I"ll leave about 11:45 - to get there for 12-ish.
