Club Captain

I am pleased to announce that the captain for the Southampton Poker Club for the season will be Dave Howard.

Dave had a fantastic week at the Vic in Season 2 winning the Omaha event and finishing second in the Stud event at the WCOAP.  He's looking to transform that form into NLHE for season 3.  Dave is heavily involved in the live scene in Southampton, so we should see even more recruitment before the start of the Online National League.

Oh, a yes that is another blatant 'winner' photo.   Grin

Many thanks,

Leigh

Cheers Leigh,

If anyone has any questions about me, fire away!

APAT-wise, I played all 4 of the WCOAP events at the Vic and have played Cardiff twice and Luton once. I managed 4th in the first Online Stud champs. Hold Em wise, aside from a 100% satellite success rate, I've not got anywhere near the final table, let alone winning - though I've had a fair amount of deepstack success over the last few months (no more brag, I promise!). Have played very little online (I am a live specialist if truth be known) but intend to change that in general this year. I also post frequently on The Hendon Mob forum.

As mentioned, I am heavily involved in the live scene (not quite as much now as a few months back - numbers have died recently) and am surprised to not recognise a single name from my live exploits? Aside from the two people I know personally on the list. If anyone has any queries about the live scene in Southampton, then I'll be happy to field any questions, a schedule of what's currently available is below. Not sure what P********h or Bournemouth have poker wise.

Has anyone played in the Southampton casinos before? Any reason for or not? Will be interested to know and I can relay any feedback to relevant TDs!

Leigh mentioned to me the possibility of some kind of informal meet up, so again, any suggestions/ideas - post them here! Perhaps one of the tournaments below...

Harbour House, Town Quay, Southampton:

Tue - £20 rebuy, NLHE, 1000 starting chips, £4k guaranteed with 35 runners
Thur - As above, last Thur of each month is a £100 double chance freeze with 2x3,000 chips
Sat - £10 rebuy, same structure, £2k guaranteed with 35 runners.

Have been a lot of overlays the past few years, and the Saturday comp is one of the few where numbers are holding.

Grosvenor, LeisureWorld, Southampton:

A new Grosvenor-wide league is starting 19th January. £100k and Vegas trip to play for.

Mon - £10 rebuy Bounty, 1000 chips, double add-on. Think it's a 75/25 split prizepool/bounties

Tuesday 20th January - £200 freeroll, 5,000 chips. If you want to see what the place is like, this would be ideal, get there early though!

Other Tuesdays - £40 Drag Race freezeout, 5000 chips, £2k guaranteed. Not sure what they've done to the structure, I think it's fast early, and slows down after 4 levels, that's a guess though.

Wed - £25 semi-freeze, one rebuy OR add-on. 3000 chips for each. Good structure for this one, great little comp if it gets 40+ runners.

Thur - £15 semi freeze and 2500 chips. Not sure about structure for this one.

Sat - £50 Deep Stack Freeze, 10,000 chips

Sun - £30 Triple Chance, 6000 chips in 3 lots of 2k, to be taken whenever you like in the first 2 levels.

All comps start at 8, last reg is 10 mins before for the Gros comps, whereas they start a bit late at Harbour usually.

Harbour charge 10%fee, give you a buffet for the £20 game and sandwiches for the £10 game. Gros charge higher fees, and give you bugger all.

Good crowd at the Grosvenor, ok at Harbour. Cash game 50p/£1 every night at the Gros dealer dealt. 5% rake. Harbour have a 1/2/5 dealers choice game which usually has a few thousand on the table (Marc Goodwin played there last week apparently).

Oops, prob too much info, but if you've got to this point - congratulations Smiley  Cool

Toby,

Everyone gets to play during the league with the top four players representing their clubs in the grand final if their club finishes in the top three of the division.

You don't have to play all the games, but the more you can play the better your clubs chances and the better your chance of playing in the grand final.

First matchday is Sunday 1st February.

Dave,

I'm up for a meet in southampton if anyone else is.

May need some lead time to re-arrange early morning starts and late finishes but
would like to expand my live experience (v. limited  Shocked).

My pet hate is dealing so would look to have a dealer dealt game at nlhe
if poss.

I'm playing in Walsall, as is Toby Lewis.

Carl, as for dealer dealt games, there's a cash game at the Gros that is dealer dealt, but it's quite slow and generally nitty. Not something I enjoy myself.

The tournaments are all self dealt until the final table, but dealing really isn't that scary. You could become quite adept with a pack of cards with just half hours practice on your own!

Sad as it sounds, that's how I learnt to riffle!

I'd be up for a meet (involving a game - natch). I'll be in Walsall, but I don't suppose everyone will, so a local event in Portsmouth (or possibly even Southampton) would be best. One proviso - not the Monday game at S'tn Grosvenor - popped in there on my way home last night - horriblest tournament ever. 1000 chips that you have to keep gambling with until you hit.

There are worse tournaments around, believe me!

The standard of the tournaments themselves are generally improving though, a lot better than a couple of years ago. Gradual shift to deeper stacked freezeouts.

But the Monday tournament isn't a favourite of mine. I think the Sunday tournament is the best for number of runners, and the Sat tournament, though only 15-20 players, is agreat little tournie.

Keep me posted.

On another point Dave, hope you don't have too good a season, there can't be many lines left on your signature on the forum.   Grin

We'll gloss over the fact it was a hot run over the space of 48 hours only. I've pretty much done nothing else of note in APAT!  Grin
