It still amazes me that a 'women's only' poker tournament can attract 100+ entrants but a lot of ladies still feel uncomfortable playing in mixed tournaments.  Can it be you guys aren't always on your 'best' behaviour....

Seriously it can be a bit intimidating for ladies playing in mixed poker tournaments.  It takes time to get used to handling certain situations and reading players - ie are they bullying you just because I'm a lady... etc

Haven't you noticed that some of the guys like to use avatars that are female images - could it be that they find guys trying to push them around because of it and find it easier to get chips....

My worst case of being 'abused' was from a 70+ 'gentleman' who told me......

"..... f'ing woman shouldn't be playing f'ing poker, f'ing women shouldn't even be f'ing allowed in the f'ing poker room.  F'ing women only know how to play f'ing cards not f'ing poker..... "  etc etc etc......

Takes time getting used to being able to handle that sort of situation and if a lady comes across that or a milder version of it, it can put her off.

So remember guys, good behaviour at the table makes playing the game a lot nicer in the long run for everybody.

I hope you haven't found this to be the case with APAT.  If such a thing ever happened, the culprit would be ejected from APAT immediately.

Ohh, I'd like to see somebody try that with Caz, they wouldn't know what hit them !!

Maybe it should be considered an APAT aim to make poker more appealing to women?

Already got some ideas for that Jon, to market APAT to the ladies.  Will be running them buy Des this weekend.

I think it's an ideal vehicle for female players to get into live poker.  In fact, it's ideal for all players looking to get into live MTTs without a huge buy-in.

I don't see the difference - whether the player be male of female, they've given their buy in, they have chips, and they are occupying a seat at my table. They will be dealt two cards, and could bust me or double me up.  Are women weaker than men? Ask Margaret Thatcher!!

Personally I always like to play at a mixed table (in live games) as the ambience is generally better, and the neanderthal men are often better behaved.

And as for online poker, who knows whether your up against a man, women, or something in between!!

Should there be Women Only tourneys? In my opinion, NO! This just advertises the divide!  If equality is the aim, why make a point of making an environment for women only? To counter this and to retain quality you would have to create a men only tourney, and that would probably land us all in the EU court of human rights!!!!

My wife Julia played in the APAT Regional in November and really enjoyed it. She wasn't at all intimidated by the majority-Male room and even thought she was treated better than she would have been if she were a man when her mind wandered onto shoes in the middle of a hand she thought she had folded. She felt the guys were too polite to ask if she was planning on making a decision any time soon.

I was getting more hassle about her being there as she apparently proved that she was a much better player as she outlasted me by about 4 minutes and one place!  Lasting longer just makes her more patient in my book! 

Do I recommend bring your wives to Poker? Yeah! Just as long as Jim Lang's wife keeps him locked in the house!!

LOL love it, unless you get knocked out too and end up at the bar with Dewy.... now that is an experience...

But I do agree that poker is better played in a mixed atmosphere and APAT the perfect place for all genders to start playing tournament poker.  APAT is run well and I know that the guys would never allow any abuse to take place.  

Unfortunately there are only so many seats available and its difficult enough now to get a seat at a national tournament.... can you imagine another 100 people (all ladies trying to buy in....).  Clickfest would be meltdown... LOL

I think that the women playing in APAT (or at least the ones I've been on the same table as) are probably amongst the better amateur female players.  Some with a fair bit of experience and skill, and so aren't daunted by the idea of playing live poker in a casino.

Even though the tournaments are always over-subscribed (the nationals anyway), APAT still needs to continue to attract new members and grow.  Ideally, as well as attracting more male players who are new to live poker, it will also attract a greater proportion of female players than it currently is.

Not sure I'd say all the female players are 'ladies' though...
