APAT National Poker League Reaches Half Way

Matchday 10: Close to two hundred players, representing 30 poker clubs around the country, lined up at Blue Square Poker last night to participate in the tenth match of the APAT National Poker League. The League is divided into three National Divisions; Northern, Central & Southern, and the top three poker clubs in each Division and the best runner up, will qualify for the National Final in November, where four seats at a GUKPT main event will await the eventual Champions.

Northern Winner: McKenzie
Dublin took three match points in the Northern Division, thanks to getting three players to the final table, with Colin McGrane (2nd), Frank Bailie (4th) and David Pilkington (10th) picking up the crucial points for the Irish team. With two wins and a third placing in the last three rounds Dublin have pulled themselves back into contention for final qualification. The individual win on the night went to Kenny McKenzie, who along with Kevin Gibb (7th) helped Glasgow to two match points. Charlie Paterson’s individual third place and Rob McGraw (5th) helped Dundee Poker Club to secure one match point. Edinburgh retain the lead in the Northern Division with thirteen match points, followed by Belfast and Glasgow on ten, Dundee on eight and Dublin and Newcastle on seven, with all still to play for as we enter the second half of the season.
Birmingham Poker Club took the three match points in Central Division; thanks to having the top two individual finishers in Anthony Williams and Maxine McKinlay. Manchester took two match points with three players at the final table, with John Steele (5th), Tracey McLoughlin (7th) and Francis Thomas (8th) performing strongest for the Central Poker Club on the night. Walsall took the crucial final match point thanks to Susan Tarpy’s individual third and James Edwards in ninth. Central Division remains extremely tight with leaders Leeds Poker Club on fourteen match points, Birmingham on thirteen, Manchester on twelve, Walsall on ten and Liverpool on nine.
Southern Winner: Carr-Hill
In the Southern Division, it was Cardiff who stretched their lead at the top thanks to the finishing positions of Darren Shallis (2nd), Malcolm Vince (4th) and Paul Mcarthy (6th). South London retained second place in the Division and took two match points with strong finishes by Shaun Herran (3rd), Mike Bodman (7th) and Tim Magnus (9th). The individual glory on the night went to Joe Carr-Hill, in his first APAT National League match, a result which was good enough to secure Brighton Poker Club the final remaining match point. As stated above, these results further strengthened Cardiff’s lead at the top of the Southern Division. They now lead on fifteen match points, from South London with thirteen, Plymouth with eleven with chasers Bristol on seven.
