Scott Wilson:  Scottish Amateur ChampionOver the weekend of 19-20th June 2010, APAT held the latest event in it’s fourth season, sponsored by Betfair, with the Scottish Amateur Poker Championships held at the International Casino in Aberdeen consisting of 127 runners and a £10,360 prize pool and the third leg of the APAT Professional Pot Limit Hold’em Series with 24 runners.

Central European Champion: Christoph Kreindl

Over the weekend of 15-16th May 2010 APAT held the latest event in it’s fourth season, sponsored by Betfair Poker, with the Central European Amateur Poker Championships held at the Concord Card Casino in Vienna, Austria consisting of 179 runners and a €15,215 prize pool.

Courtesy of Betfair the winner of the Championship wins an entry to a GUKPT main event as part of an overall sponsorship package where APAT members have the chance to win thirty three seats to GUKPT main events and twenty three seats to APAT Professional League tournaments. In addition, each of the season’s seventy five amateur, professional and online tournaments are run completely registration free for players.

In addition, the winners of the Online and National Amateur Rankings will join the 17 Amateur Champions from season four and the player with the most points finishes across Amateur and Online events, to compete in the APAT Champions Final, to play for an APAT £20,000 sponsorship package in 2011.

Of the 179 participants, players came not only from Austria and the UK but from as far afield as Germany, Italy, Russia, Slovenia and Norway. Of the UK players, in a generally disappointing performance Don Logan was last to depart in 30th, his Ace King outdrawn by Ace Queen.

The early pace of play and exits was extremely brisk but by the end of the Day the chip leaders amongst the eighteen remaining players were:

Over the weekend of 20-21st March 2010 APAT opened it’s new and fourth season, sponsored by Betfair Poker, with the Welsh festival held at the Aspers Casino Swansea. The festival consisted of the 102 runner Welsh Amateur Poker Championship, the first leg of the APAT Professional League ( a £250 Pot Limit Hold Em series ) and the Pot Limit Omaha leg of the £25 Specialist Series with a further 70 runners combined.

The winner of the Professional League will win a £20,000 APAT sponsorship package for 2011. In addition, the winners of the Online and National Amateur Rankings will join the 17 Amateur Champions from season four and the player with the most points finishes across Amateur and Online events, to compete in the APAT Champions Final, to play for a second APAT £20,000 sponsorship package in 2011.

In the One day Professional Series Pot Limit Hold Em event the final table was packed with regular Tour players who had travelled to play the event attracted by the added value on offer and the event culminated in the following result:

1st Stephen Boyd £2,250 plus GUKPT Seat.
2nd James Eccles £1,250
3rd Steve Warburton £1,000
4th Richard Offless £1,000

Meanwhile in the Amateur Championship there emerged a big chip leader in Gareth Johns, the key pot being where he called all-in to a big bet from Stuart Langford with the nut flush draw and two overcards, and rivered a flush. Elsewhere recent APAT online event winner Carl Lybert was well placed helped by flopping the second nut flush and holding on against the flopped nut flush draw of Jeldon Fernandes.

Team APAT:  UK Team Champions 2010

Team APAT: UK Team Champions 2010

The APAT United Kingdom Team Championship was held at the G Casino in Manchester on January 23rd and 24th, 2010.

The format saw 20 poker communities from all over the United Kingdom and Ireland compete for the prestigious title in a 10,000 chip, 160 runner, multi-table freeze-out, with a 45 minute clock.  As with all APAT events, the UK Team Championship was registration free for members and this event had a £50 buy in per player.  Points were awarded to the top forty finishers to determine the Team Championship.

The prize money was split equally between the Team and Individual Championship.  In addition, the owner of the winning Team received an added prize of £1,000 and the Championship Cup, while the winner of the Individual Championship received an entry to a GUKPT main event and the Championship Gold Medal.  These added value prizes were courtesy of tour sponsor Blue Square Poker.
