I think this man deserves an enormous amount of respect for what he"s given to the game. I also think he has made this decision at the right time.

People talk about his kicking game a lot, primarily because of how good he was in that World Cup winning team, but there was a lot more to Jonny than that left foot.

Was he the best all round #10 in the world? No! Naturally the English media tried to portray him as such but the key with Jonny was that he continuously strived to be the best he could possibly be whereas many sportsmen have the talent but do not fulfill their potential.

Something often overlooked was his defensive qualities. For a relatively small (short) rugby player, he tackled with passion and ferocity all over the park contirbuting in no small part to the length of time he spent injured.

I had never seen JW play in the flesh before England won the World Cup and given the fact that he spent a couple of years injured following the 2003 campaign, I thought that I never would. But then I saw him play against Scotland in a 6 Nations game around 2006 or 2007 and everything went for him, he controlled the game, kicked everything and scored a try in the corner (which shouldn"t actually have been given as he was in touch but it was that sort of day for him).

I remember saying to Luke that day "We have been in the presence of genius today"

Myself, Luke & Matt went to the 2007 World Cup in France and Jonny was missing for the first 2 games but back for the rest of the tournament and made one hell of a difference. There were other factors at work so it wasn"t all about Jonny, but he was a significant factor.

Thanks for everything Jonny and good luck for the future!
