Good report Jaques!
Did you stay at the Mercure (sp?)?? I enjoyed it there but it was expensive.
Like you say the casinos are very different for registering! All that IT and it makes it more complicated! You should have sat down for the 5/5. I was unlucky as last year it was min 10/20. 5/5 is only really 3/3 GBP, but the standard is not that great (always try a min buy in as thats the genral style over there)
It sounds like you enjoyed yourself though! What attracted you to play Dortmund?

No, I was in the Hilton Hotel.
Buying in for the average stack in that 5/5 game would be more than my entire bankroll. :( The cash games I am used to in our home game is playing pot limit 20 cent dealer-ante (no blinds) and 50 euro buy-in 1/3 euro blinds in the local casinos. However, I"m currently at my new winter-location and here there is no real poker at all. Well, there is one game but there you"ll see people push UTG with 32 suited and they do everything counter-clockwise. Very disturbing. ???
I opted for Dortmund because all the early ones were during my holidays and of the ones left it attracted me most. The reason is because I am fluent in German and that helps. For example, at my table in the EPT there was one German guy that didn"t speak English at all and three other Germans. So half the table talked mostly German. This includes talking about past hands. A lot of information would have been lost to me if I hadn"t understand them. Then again, as it turned out that didn"t matter anyways. LOL

Not wishing to hijack this thread, but what is the rule about languages spoken at the table in the EPT?
I know its english only online and in UK casinos (and US as well?)
Is it "anything goes" in the EPT? Given the diversity of fields and venues, I suppose it has to be. (or is it?)

I would imagine that it depends where its held. Before the start I actually asked the dealer what languages are accepted and the answer was that if enough people at the table speak the language its okay to use. "Enough" isn"t an absolute value, but I never noticed abuse of any kind language-wise.
Note that this was the rule for the EPT event. The rule for this casino could be different for their regular poker. I heard that there were some rule differences just for the EPT event. For example who shows first if the river goes check, check. Logically its the first check on the river, but apparently EPT rules state last bettor/raiser, even if this took place before the river checkdown.

Its English only. The Germans are a pain in the @rse though.
Thats not a bad idea that you had though Jacques, cus more and more Germans are playing poker and getting in on the ept....and as u say they tend to do just as they please and ignore the english only rule. I had a bit of a nightmare in a cash game in germany, where they were blatantly talking about me and of some of the hands. I can pick up enough German but not enough to know some of what they were talking about all the time...
But the casino is bad, as it tries to enforce its own house rules...when it should be playing to ept rules. similarly last year i had clock called on me (a boxhead did it in the cash game lolidiot) after about 30 seconds. I protested and the dealer informed me house rule was one minute!!!!
Where u at now then Jacques? Are u coming back to defend your title?
