Loser's Ink - The Jaxie Towers' 10k Challenge

Jaxie did their first proper training run tonight. We were following the well-known (apparently :)) Couch to 5K (c25k) training program. Week 1 is 5 minutes warm-up (brisk walk) followed by jogging for 1 minute / walking for 1 min 30 sec repeated for 20 minutes, i.e. 8 repetitions then a 5 minute warm-down (eh?). This to be done three times during the week. We used the free c25k app to time the intervals. It worked very well but we (I) didn"t realise that the 5 minute warm-up time was included in the total time and ended up stopping after just 6 repetitions :D - that"s my story and I"m sticking to it!

We made the mistake of taking Archie & Fib with us. They loved it, chasing round with Mum & Dad, but the author of the c25k program never thought to schedule pooper-scooping into the training.

And the dogs needed looking after as well

Luckily, we saved dinner until after our exertions :)

Did the second training session tonight. I used a different app to time the running/walking stints. Dawn found it and used it earlier on her run. It"s a lot more user-friendly and takes you through all the way to 10k distance in 14 weeks - if everything goes according to plan.

I also used Runkeeper to keep track of distance travelled, average pace and estimated calories burnt. It says I walked/ran 3.05 miles at an average pace of 11m32s per mile. It sounds a bit fast to me and I"m worried I"m going to have "boshi on my case :)

It was reasonably tough but I enjoyed it and I"m looking forward to Friday when I"ll be able to take advantage of my early finish to run in daylight.

Curlarge:
Keep up the good work you two/four xx/xxxx
