So the Celeb Big Brother bet didn"t go exactly to plan with some daft Geordie lass winning.. obviously the people collating the "phone to win" lines are in the know and it was pretty obvious looking at the swing in the betfair odds what was happening. Managed to cash out for a little profit and year to date on Betfair is looking good.
The APAT server as some people think does not live with me and I"m not constantly looking at a monitor to make sure its OK whispering soothing words, bringing it cups of tea or giving it back rubs when people use it.
However as "Technical Head" (think thats what Des calls me) of APAT I get the nudge whenever the server throws a wobbler and needs the off and on switch throwing. We"ve had a number of problems recently with hacking attempts on the server... from attempts to use the server for sending SPAM (now fixed), attempts to access its FTP (file transfer) service to hack the site (now fixed), attempts to access windows to hack the site (hopefully now fixed from yesterday with a port reconfig), to continued attacks on Wordpress (the software that runs the main site)... OH and several popular forum members (who will not be named.. unless you"ve already seen on FB) who set their avatar sourced from a dodgy church site which caused various malware alerts ::)
As much as I just love the tags on FB telling me the site is down (actually I do.. but please be more subtle than one the other day from Annoying man which just said "FFS Phil TC the site is down again" :-\), I"ve set up a monitoring service that emails me when the site goes down so we can try and be a little more proactive.
Will update this blog with stats.. but since the 23rd here we are :
