WCOAP 2013 - Official Information Thread

Bear in mind that although the reserves have been met in terms of numbers there is no firm commitment on the part of each player to actually play the events they have reserved and I would expect some fall out from this. Traditionally there has been space in the main and some dropouts from the side events when the comp actually gets closer, so I wouldn"t panic too much if you are on the waiting list (imo)

This is the 5th annual WCOAP, which has been held at DTD for each of the past 4 years. The dates for the WCOAP were announced early last year, emails went out to all of our membership, along with significant exposure across Facebook and Twitter.
On announcing the finalised schedule and releasing the seats, another email went out to the membership, along with even more Facebook and Twitter exposure, and numerous articles across the poker media.
It took ten days for all of the events to sell out, obviously some of the more popular ones sold out sooner, but even we were surprised at the speed of take up, especially as we have increased capacities since last year, with additional events.
One thing to remember here, this is the World Championship of Amateur Poker. It"s aimed at amateur players that do have jobs and families and lives outside of poker. All of our events are scheduled to cause minimal disruption to players work and other life commitments. It would be great to run two day side events across a fortnight, but the reality is that it is not cost effective for APAT, any venue and most importantly, the players.
We"ll keep pushing the boundaries of what we can offer the poker community, but we will always do this whilst ensuring we don"t alienate those that have supported us for the past 6 seasons.

Although the WCOAP has to be limited in its offering because of overybodys other commitments, I do think Peter has brought some interesting ideas forward that may well be worth forum discussion after Easter when we can see just how much demand there was and how successfully things ran.

Completely agree with that.

Problem is, demand will always be there, no matter what way they work it.
On top of everything else, we also have to keep in mind it"s a "staff" of only 3 who run around like headless chickens at live events. Live updates and general PR is mainly covered by just those three. And they have day jobs they need to get back to at some point as well.
