It"s a shame some teams are scratching around for players, whilst I have to turn down so many who are desperate to play. Need to get the English applicants looking at old family trees to discover long lost heritage to some of these countries that are struggling to field teams. ;D

Regarding the 16 teams and possibilities..
If a certain country which has not been perhaps invited say China for instance, and a team that has invited to play and are indeed struggling to find 5 players.. I"m sure there a good deal of local Chinese players whom play at DTD would like to play? Why not contact DTD and see if they could put some "feelers" out to some of the regulars?
Just a thought as it would be a shame not to get full quota of teams..
Edit.. Reading this back to myself it sounds rather confusing to me, but I blame it on the Cava * hic* .. But I know what I mean!!

Being a Captain is a big responsibily. Yes i hate scratching around for players every year. This year has been tough with the addition of another player per team. Each year Des comes to me with those big puppy dog eyes and asks me to take on the challange of getting a team together for Canada. Ive never turned him down. How can you turn down the honor of representing your Country? I love my country and I am greatful each year I am asked, thanks Des. So I will call around, I will harrass my facebook friends, I will ask everyone I know to ask their friends. It is very difficult and it gets very tense the closer the tournament gets. But the other Captains have it worse than me. They have to say no to friends and family and upset alot of people, they then have to have faith that they have picked not only the deserving but people who will perform on the day. So with all that in mind, I wish all of them the best of luck. Team Canada will see you at the tables.

As much as it pains me to say it, maybe a North American team that combines USA/Canada? Might be the only way forward with those two considering the hassle each year.

I have English and French Canadians back in my family tree... :)

I"m sure that India could submit a team but be expensive for them to travel

There are a lot of Indian people who live in England seems like there could be a team put together...
