Relocating to Nottinghamshire - need advice

I am relocating to Nottinghamshire due to work at some point in the next 4-8 weeks.

Will be working here:- Kirkby in Ashfield



Does anyone live near here? Will be looking to rent a place at short notice so looking for advice on nice areas / areas to steer clear of. I have never been this far north in my life so have literally no idea of the area.

Happy to travel 30mins or so to work to get a decent place for me and my girlfriend. Priority is living somewhere we won"t get shot/stabbed. Am sure I am overgeneralising but I am a southern softie.

Will probably go up at some point soon to get a feel for the area - nice restaurants? Things worth seeing?
