Remembering my first live APAT tournament is an easy one, as it was the first time I had ever played live poker. It was Bolton in 2009 and I made every newbie mistake you can - I was warned for lifting my cards off the table, string betting etc - you name it, I did it.
BUT, amazingly, I not only made the final table (with Tony Trippier and Andy Duncan amongst others) but I came second! Obviously I was hooked and I"ve greatly enjoyed the craic at APAT events ever since.
The next event I played was the team event in Manchester where I played for Raise the River and came 12th. At one point, well into the evening on the first day, I was back to back with Ant Williams who was on the same team. I said to him "I"ve only played 5 hands all day. How many for you?" "Four", he replied. I"ve loosened up a bit since then (I"ll have to reflect on whether this is a good thing).
Subsequent highlights have been captaining the Edgworth Cricket Club team to victory in the pub poker championships and playing for Ireland in the Home Internationals.
Undoubtedly the thing that has made APAT for me is the spirit in which the vast majority of folk in our community play the game. Ethos is everything.

Says 1058? That cant be right.
First event was Worlds few years back, chipped up early on and then got moved to a table with Dave Howard.
Was going well until 5 mins from end of the day when i got AKss in vs KJo for almost double average for day 2. Sadly i dont fade, even flopping the FD....sigh
Good Craic, but horrible drive home :(

My first APAT tournament was the Scottish leg of, I think, season 4 and I instantly loved APAT events. From then I have travelled to a few more, won a gold medal and had the pleasure of helping Team Scotland win the online league both as a minion and captain. We are looking forward to a new online league. ;) I have also met lots of great people who have put up with me at my best and worst (otherwise known as sobre and very very drunk!) and made some wonderful new friends from all over the UK, Ireland and beyond.
Looking forward to many more seasons and getting back to being more involved.
