Double Add On

Not been playing much poker lately but been having a go today.  Can someone tell me when the double add on feature started and is there a way to set up for just one add on rather than two ?

If you untick "Auto addon" it will give you the option to take a single or double add-on. But for that, you have to be at the screen when it asks you. You only get 20 or so seconds to choose or you end up with neither.
