The APAT Eventbrite facility to "reserve a seat" for APAT events allows players to pay a non-refundable fee (immediately to Eventbrite) to guarantee them a seat in the event.
To redeem a guaranteed seat the player must fulfil the event registration requirements on the day of the event at the venue (where appropriate, these will be displayed on Eventbrite) and pay the FULL tournament buy-in (ie the event entry plus any reg/admin fee - so for example the FULL £75+£7.50). If a player fails to redeem their guaranteed seat option, they will be able to join the Alternates List as and when they do turn up at the venue. The Alternates List will be operated by APAT on a first come, first served basis.
It is EMPHASISED - the Eventbrite reservation fee is in ADDITION to the event buyin and reg fee that you have to pay on the day.
All monies raised via Eventbrite are specifically set aside and allocated to the costs of personnel to provide the much desired (by members) service of updating/blogging at APAT events.

PokerRoyalFlush9:
Does the reserving reduce the holding tank number on coral.... Could get someone reserving and then a full holding tank full with straight buyin? The small side events have 20 odd straight buy in at the minute, then say 20 odd reserve and then more straight buyin on coral, making more runners then allocated for the event?

I believe that the idea was that there were two separate "pots" of seats for online buy-in and reserved seats.
The size of the pots will be adjusted once the lads have a grip on the way things are going.
I think it likely that the online buy-in will close fairly early to allow plenty of time to get the money to Aspers.

I read somewhere the holding tank online is open until 31 march , reserve seats can block out a lot if this live now already

Not if there are a limited number of "reservable" seats.
