First I heard of it. I am not doubting you Herbie but you are correct in that all cities / places can have these issues.
Reasonable caution should always be taken.
Obviously what happened to Mr Murray was nasty but I have attended many events in Luton and made my drunken way back to the hotel late at night without any trouble.

lol I"ve heard people say this about almost every town I"ve been to play poker at - and I"ve never seen anyone ever have any problem at any of them.
I think a lot of people are just easily scared.

Except in Luton last year at the team event where one of our own got smacked over the back of the head at 4am on his way back from the casino to the hotel and spent a few hours in casualty after having stitches.
Can"t see why you would want to jump on this comment. Some places can be a bit more dangerous than others and information like that from James is valuable IMO.

Just another in a very long line of irrelevant comments made by someone who rarely even attends APAT events. Obviously has nothing better to do.

If saying somewhere is dangerous is relevant - how is saying, no it isn"t not relevant?
I know East London very well and Stratford quite well - some places are more dangerous than others but the absolute level of risk in anywhere APAT has gone to play poker has always been low in absolute terms.
I did come on line to ask something relating to a newcomer to the game playing - but the tone of this kind of comment makes me re-think whether this is the right kind of introduction I would want for them.

Hmmm, I went to school in Stratford, and lived in East London most of my life prior to 1999. (And I spent 3 years in Luton as a student)
I can"t really speak of the gang culture - however a leopard doesn"t change it spots even when billions are invested in an area.
This may be 2014 post Olympics but I would take extra care and vigilance, travel by taxi if in doubt, travel in groups if possible, etc. I would not be wandering too far late at night (or in the day in some area"s) on my own.
If there is any trouble I would be prepared to expect the worst, i.e. it would not be unexpected for the use of a knife, glass, screwdriver, etc in any altercation. This includes in most of the surrounding area"s where your lovely B&B"s & hotels are.

Jon,
I"m not entirely sure this was aimed at you...since it was in response to Andy"s comment.
Personally, I"m not sure what Richard is saying as both you and Andy are regular attendees...perhaps he"s having a bad afternoon.
I"d say let"s leave it...before someone says something they didn"t really mean.

Just fed up with this contributors continuous inane posts, which are clearly designed to aggravate people and little else.
