UK Amateur Poker Championship - Live Updates - Day 2
Scousebill:
Here is an odd one....
Thanks for the thanks from some of the other players who have already posted..
I had a really great weekend and anybody who sat at the same table as me knows that I like a drink and it was a killer not having any on the Sunday as whatever happened I still had to drive home.
I am "chuffed" as Paulie put it and I am happy that others have congratulated me on here as I do not get many live cashes, this making it maybe about 6 or 7 in nearly five years of live play but it is playing in the tournaments and atmosphere of an APAT one that I feel has helped improve my game more...
I"m not sure if we had the same dealer as Ian did but I heard that most of them were brand new, one only being in the job for FIVE days and they did fine enough for me... Hopefully they took on board the advice given by some of the more experienced players on the tables and take it as a learning curve. The TD was helping them a bit, especially with some of the bigger chip counts and he appeared quite patient with them so it can only help I suppose....
It"ll be a while for my next one now... Coventry more than likely....
Paulie_D:
On the turnout front it was a little disappointing especially as Yorkshire had been on the "request list" for some time amongst the APAT regs.
We were affected by the fact that the G Merrion, also in Leeds, was putting on a £50 / 30k stack comp (with one rebuy) on the same day and DTD was also putting on a £125 event too.
We lose some players who can"t commit to a 2-day event and would rather play a worse structure (in my opinion) because it"ll be over in one day.
On the casino staffing front, I had my niggles but overall I though the cardroom staff managed pretty well. Patrick, the manager, has only been in place for 6 weeks so he still working out a few bugs and staffing issues..including some sickness problems on the day.
The buffet not being ready for the break was poor...the kitchen / serving staff had ample notice of when it was expected and missed it by a good 30 minutes (as we got started late).
Big ups to Tom for sticking to the APAT line on not paying the bubble...when asked why we don"t his answer was cracking..."because it"s the bubble".
Despite some quite vocal objections from one particular person the bubble was NOT paid as they couldn"t get unanimous support for it. Thanks to Rob S for that...it cut through all the cr*p.
I confess to an internal (and entirely personal, not APAT-official) grin when the most vocal proponent of the bubble being paid left with a min cash.
My first outing as an "official" updater...hope you liked it....and they are right, it"s a lot more work than it looks!
