STAKER
Do you wish you could have a share in Jason Mercier? Now you can - with Staker.
Staker will run alongside the Fantasy Team competition in this thread for a selection of WSOP tournaments. We can manage this as both competitions are based on the same tournament results and the updates overlap a lot, but they are completely separate and you can enter either competition without taking part in the other.
Staker is completely free to enter and there are substantial prizes to win:
1st: APAT World Championship of Amateur Poker Passport (worth £220)
2nd: APAT National Main Event entry
3rd: APAT National Main Event entry
4th: APAT Online Main Event entry
5th: APAT Online Main Event entry
6th: APAT Online Main Event entry
7th: APAT Online Main Event entry
8th: APAT Online Main Event entry
9th: APAT Online Main Event entry
10th: APAT Online Main Event entry
Those are for the most profitable Stakers over the overall Series.
In addition, the most profitable Staker in each event will win a £10 online event entry at Grosvenor Poker.
You are given a budget equal to the entry fee for the selected tournaments and can use this money to back one or several players. If you split your stake, you will win whatever percentage of their prize-money you staked each player for. On the other hand, if you stake one player for 100% of his entry, you will win 100% of whatever prize he wins. This can lead to the best results, but it is also the most risky approach, as you will win nothing if your player fails to cash.

The WSOP starts today. Event #2, the real start, begins at 11pm our time. I will accept any entries until that time but, assuming there aren't any, we have ended up with a record-breaking 27 entries.
The same two players as last year were again the most popular, with Jason Mercier just edging ahead of Daniel Negreanu. There is a big gap then to eveyone else. Justin Bonomo, Stephen Chidwick and Paul Volpe were also rewarded for previous good peformances.
Some new entrants have made a spectacular entrance, headed by Benny Glaser, who has gone straight in at No 6, having been selected on eight teams, closely followed by James Obst and Brandon Shack-Harris.

Biggest Losers
There have been some spectacular falls, the biggest rejection being of Dzimitry Urbanovich, who was going to do all-sorts at his first Series last year, but failed very publicly to make any impression. Nine people picked him last year, but only two were willing to do so this time. He was actually on zero until quite late on. Two others who did fall to zero are Anthony Zinno and Doug Polk. Polk is not a surprise, as he doesn't play many events, but Zinno reached five final tables two years ago, including a win. Simon Deadman and Mike Gorodinsky have also been soundly rejected. Again, I am surprised that Gorodinsky has been blown out. Two years ago, he clocked up 1st, 2nd and 3rd places, plus four more top-thirty finishes. He was 87th in the Main Event last year and is coming off two big results in the past week. Our selectors are a tough lot.
