working out pot odds / equity example

(1/3) > >>

noble1:
waz  :2c:  :2s:
swinebag    ah  ad
noble1   7d :3d:

waz 3000 chips
swinebag 3000 chips
noble1 3000 chips

swinebag raises to 300
noble1 calls 300
waz calls 300        pot - 900

flop -  :2d: 5d jh

swinebag goes all in 2700
noble1 calls all in 2700         pot - 6300
waz ??

waz has a set , it will cost him 2700 to win 6300..  the odds are 6300 divided by 2700        6300/2700 = 2.33 to 1

2.33to1 worked into equity is 2.33+1=3.33   so now all we do is divide 1 by 3.33 and times by 100 and this will give us our equity..

1/3.33*100=30.03% equity   2.33to1

waz decides to put swinebag on a over pair QQ KK AA maybe JJ , noble1 is a utter donk who gambles without thinking often with top pair or flush draws maybe 2 pair so Waz gives him a range like AJ KJ QJ TJ Axs KQs J5 52 J2

Waz now puts it through pokerstove - the results look like this

Waz :2c::2s:  - 68.729%                       board - 2D 5D JH
swinebag  JJ+ - 20.750%
noble1  A2s+,KJs+,QJs,JTs,J5s,J2s,52s,J5o,J2o,52o  - 11.234%

waz sees that he is 1/2 on [68%] and he is getting 30.03% so it is a easy call ...
waz knows that if his pokerstove equity result is higher than the actual pot equity
in this case 68% pokerstove to pot equity 30% then it is a correct call..

Waz1892:
noble1.....wow..thank-you...Waz understands much much better!!!

you have my word i will take this on board and work hard so i haven"t wasted yout time.

I have a home game on friday night.., regular so kind of know-ish who plays what to a degree..enough to put some on some ranges (if that isn"t too much of a  guestimation-ism)

I will let you know.

ps/  waz defo called...but did he win!.. :D

RioRodent:
Waz did really well to type all that into pokerstove and a calculator before being timed out... I"m impressed, Waz must be a typist.

;)

i agree but WAZ has run so many equity calculations he knows 1.5to1 is 40% 1.4to1 is 41.66% 1.3to1 is 43.47% 1.2to1 is 45.45% 1.1to1 is 47.61% and has virtually memorized how different hands compare to each range of cards equity wise so the dude just knows in an instant when his hands match up equity wise to a villains shove range, boy all that work reviewing hands and playing about with pokerstove really paid off...

just goes to show what a bit of study does , nice one WAZ ......
