Back to the DTD Deepstack qualifier last night, in the cold light of day, here"s a few thoughts on the latter stages of the tournament.

It really does become a crapshoot (as is the case with most satellites) with everyone hanging on for a seat.  What did disappoint me though was that there was a lot of softplay going on and everyone, not just the short stacks, running down their clocks.

It seemed that quite a lot of people knew each other and on my table there was even calls to give the shortstack a walk with only one player left to go.

In my view, this is wrong and verges on cheating.  It is not helped by a lack of hand for hand on the software and the chatbox can still be used when a player is all-in.

When down to 51 players, I shoved with my 6k stack into the shortie (3k) who was already all in on the big blind.  I had AK suited and he was very fortunate to hit a straight.  I"ve no problem with that.

I am then very shortstacked along with another player on another table, who eventually shoves from mid position with their remaining 625 chips.  It folds round to the blinds (3k/6k) and the small blind, with a stack of 20k+ chooses not to make up the blind and folds.  wtf ?

I was lucky and the bb rivered a straight, so I made it through.

Thinking about it this morning, if I had bubbled, I think I would have been straight on to DTD questioning the play at the end of the tournament.  Not sure it would have got me anywhere and in this case, for my sake, it makes no difference.

However, it shouldn"t go on.  Playing hand for hand would help the situation.

Rant over.   ;D

I don"t think the SB is obliged to call.

Most players would - and it would be correct to do so - but you see all sorts of weird things going on - and some of them are just weird!

Yesterday I was in a qualifier 5 left for three seats.

Post flop I pushed all in with a draw - and the chip leader (30k) declined to call 1900 chips into 10,000 - what is that about?

Looks very weird to any observer - but just a terrible play - never played the guy before.

No hand for hand is pretty weak - as is the table chat all in - but known hazard with many satelittes.

Good luck when you play.

So, I go off to Dublin for the weekend.  Luky stays at home.  Bearing in mind the moment I suggested on this blog that he may play a bit of poker, he quickly responded to deny the claim.

I thought I would post his stats over the long weekend (Fri-Tues)

Shootouts played = 18
Heads Up Reached = 12
Final Tables Reached = 10
Minor Cashes = 3
Seats Won = 3

Cost = $210.60
Winnings = $730.00
ROI = 246.6%

Not a bad weekends work.  At least one of us is a winning player.   ;D

Chat in a satellite should be blocked when the bubble approaches.

The lack of H4H is a serious software oversight on the part of Boss Media. It is also a constant moaning topic on the Poker.co.uk (which is also on Boss) forum.

I"d have emailed support on this one and also sent Simon Trumper an email too.

VWD on qualifying leigh. Let me know when you plan to play this

Well, due to recent media stories, it"s going to be this weekend.   ;D

I actually can"t make the July one anyway, so going to meet up with Mr Kinboshi on Saturday and head to DTD.

If anyone else is up there, let me know.

Swinebag:
