ENGLAND - European Team Championships 2009

Much to the chagrin of many I am the team captain for England for the European Team Championships taking place in November 2009.

To have the role as captain is an honour, but it"s also a headache.  I have to select a team of just 4 players, and so it"s obvious that some excellent players who"d like to represent England are going to be disappointed.

I"m still determining the criteria I"ll use to select the team, but in the meantime please PM me if you"re interested in putting your name into the hat.  I"ve already had a few dozen people PM me expressing their desire to be part of the team and I will make sure I consider each and every one of you.

One thing"s for sure though.  I"m picking a team to win it.  We"re going to have a good few days as well, but the plan is to win it all.  If we don"t win, it won"t be through lack of commitment.  One thing"s for sure though, we"ll beat the sweaties ;).

Go and pollute your own thread.  English only at the table please.

maybe running a mini league tournament for the english players would be the best way?

or perhaps, picking 2 players and then letting 2 players win their place.

I haven"t thought about the format or anything, but since we have a lot of good players it would be an opportunity for them to face off and find the best of the best maybe.

Something that could then be deployed year on year.
