Las Vegas - 22nd November 2013
Crash & Burn
After the last couple of days I really hadn't planned on any more poker. In fact, my entire plan for Friday was my usual late start, a movie, drinking. eating and Pai Gow.
I should listen to myself sometimes.
That's not to say that the plan didn't start well...I didn't leave the room until after 1pm but, for some reason, dithered about for an hour or so trying to decide what to do...even though I had a plan.
TGIs called but I was firm in my intent to make time for Koji, the Asian restaurant later so I settled for just a beer or three before completing the second part of my plan.
Around 3pm I headed upstairs to the movie theatre and watch the second part of the Hunger Games trilogy (at least I hope it's only a trilogy), Catching Fire.
Good movie...a sequel that is actually better than the first movie..and you don't get that very often.
By the time I came out I was read for some grub and headed over to Koji. Some damn fine eating in there...I can tell you.
I'm not chinese food expert but i know what I like and their Special Chow Mein was top notch. I'd certainly put it on a par with Noodle Asia at the Venetian.
I hear great things about Ping Pang Pong at the Gold Coast but haven't made the effort to get over there. I must do that one trip.
Anyway, full of nosh,I then veered off plan and headed back to the poker room.
Mistake.
Although there was plenty of action I never saw anything I could get hold of. My starting hands were rubbish and I was folding pretty much everything. When I did get a hand I could play, I either missed or only got a quarter,
After 4 hours, I was down another $100 and losing a good $40 with the flopped second nuts to the flopped nuts put the final nail in it.
I was done with gamblin' for the trip.
Overall, perhaps I dropped $500 over various games of chance which, over the 2 weeks is not bad at all.
Certainly, I spent more than that on entertainment & food so...I'll take it.
Downhearted, I called it a night around, I dunno, 10pm.
Home tomorrow.

The Party Is Over
So that was Vegas 2013.
I dossed about in the room until noon (check-out time) and sat in the lobby for 90 minutes waiting for my ride.
At the appointed time, I made my way outside and my driver (hee hee, my driver!) was waiting for me with an iPad with my name on it and escorted me to my town car (think cut down limo) which I had all to myself.
I'm going to give two thumbs up to Bell VIP Shuttles on this one...the ride was $55 return and I had no problem with a decent tip both ways.
I certainly would have paid at least the same for taxis on my schedule and even though the town cars are really nothing particularly special...they feel special...if you get what I mean.
I lucked out at Airport check-in and scored an aisle seat which I didn't originally have and the flight back was fine.
I picked up the car from the hotel and was home by 1pm.
Nice cup of tea and I was settled.
Pretty sure that Vegas 2014 is off my radar barring an influx of capital (or a shipload of Virgin points) but Vegas 2015 is probably on.

great read Paulie, hope the next part will follow soon :)
I crossed you on the way down in the hotel, but couldn"t really say goodbye after that... but we"ll meet again soon!

I"ve been neglecting this because I felt I was starting to repeat myself. Certainly most reports were starting to feel the same. Plus you know, laziness.
However....
I"m heading to sunny Portugal with Ger tomorrow. He very kindly offered me a room in the villa he"s rented for a week with the Wee Man and the lovely Marie.
Got a cheap flight and I"ll stand up and be counted. OK, I"ll sit down and be counted. As long as my liver can take it... I will hang in there.
Ger"s given up the baccy and the Lord knows how that"s gonna work given a week"s worth of booze and good food.
I like being prepared when I fly abroad so I often book a night in an airport hotel for the night before. More often than not you can get 8 days parking plus a hotel room for not much more than the parking would cost by itself.
So I found that Premier Inn would do me 8 days and a night"s accommodation for only £30 more than Meet and Greet would run (and a good £30 less than taxis each way would cost) I snapped their hand off.
The hotel is directly opposite Departures so you can"t sleep much closer.
Now my flight isn"t until 4pm but feck it.
Dropped the car off a little walk from the hotel (bait and switch on that one, they changed the drop-off point after booking) but for you mere mortals it was only a five minute walk... But #PaulieDoesntDoWalking
Anyway, check in was a breeze, they have automated kiosks but helpful Eastern European lovelies to help us old codgers.
Room was standard PI.. You know what you are getting.
Bar didn"t do food so I was forced to use the restaurant and on a Friday night they were pretty busy and had recommended reservations. Regardless I wandered up and they"d had a cancellation for 5 minutes from then. Handy that.
Food, disappointing. I wasn"t expecting cordon bleu but the mixed grill was, poor. I"ve paid a lot less for a lot more, even in airport hotels.
The good news, beer prices were surprisingly reasonable. £3.45 for a Carling isn"t bad, given the location.
So I"m sat in the bar railing APATers in Vegas. Made up for Leigh and Paul Haycock both taking down very nice scores that easily covered their trips.
Other friends taking cashes in events around Lost Wages but even though I miss Vegas I"ve done June there and it"s not for me. IT"S ****ING HOT!
That said I expect Southern Portugal will be pleasantly warm too. I might even take off my hoodie.

Badly beat in the aquarium. However I am practicing the drink option. Tomorrow (and the next 7 days) will be epic.
