"All Good Things..."
Leaving day....
My flight isn't until 4.30pm and I have to check out by midday. I was expecting an 11am check-out and so the extra hour came in handy to get sorted out and properly packed up.
I cab over to the airport...but get longhauled by accident. The driver admitted (without prompting) that he'd inadvertently taken the long way and offered an immediate $5 discount. S'OK with me...I handed him the $25 I'd been expecting to pay anyway and he seemed very grateful.
Check-in was a breeze...well I am fairly early AND in Premium Economy and then headed up to the security check point.
I did the usual shoe dance and then noticed that they have the new nudiescope machines installed. Well I wasn't having any of that. It's bad enough that I have to see myself nude without inflicting it on others. I even close my eyes in the shower.
Fully expecting to be frisked closer than a stripper in Vienna (Ey, Ger?) I decline the scanner and head through the standard metal detector.
The TSA agent doesn't blink and just waves me through. Should I be offended he didn't want to pat me down?
After that it's propping up the bar in Terminal 2 at McCarran and using the free wifi. Oh, if you've never been here before, Terminal 1 has much more in the way of restaurants and shops....but thems the breaks with flying with Virgin.
Boarding is no hassle and I'm pleased to find out that it's one of the newer refitted planes with the VPort system for on-board entertainment. You can cue up a list of the films you want to see and away you go..no waiting for them to rewind the tape.
I do manage a couple of hours kip which is quite unusual, generally I have trouble sleeping when flying. I'm woken up by the trolley dollies handing out a snack for breakfast..I'll have the Bacon and Cheese Bagel please.
Expecting a cold sandwich I nearly lose a hand when she drops in it a small package so hot I figure it's actually a meteor that's just entered Earth's atmosphere. Crikey...take them out of the microwave after 20 minutes why don"t you!?
Off the plane with no hassle (we"re actually 15 minutes early) and then have to endure the slow shuffle caused by UK Border Patrol undermanning the arrivals hall....as usual.
Fortunately, my bag is literally coming round the corner on the conveyor as I walk up and I am out of the airport, back at the hotel and in the car for 11.30. Home by 1pm
Job Done.
I'll have ponder on the holiday as a whole and try and post up some concluding thoughts.
Right now though...I need to get some more sleep after I buy in for Spain.
