My understanding is that if you play ANY APAT event then you become a member of APAT. So these players you are complaining about are actually APAT members.

What you"re saying here is correct of course.

But what about those random people from far flung corners of the globe who just happen to see the tourney in the lobby and throw their $5 at it - and the numbers are increasing. It seems slightly odd that they should be considered APAT members when they probably don"t even know what APAT is. I recognise the need for growth, but are we that desperate for members that we"ll consciously include people who don"t know who we are and what we stand for ?

Just playing devil"s advocate - seeing as everyone else has pooh poohed Deb"s OP  ;D

APAT (or 888) isn"t "consciously including" these "randoms"...it"s just that they aren"t consciously EXCLUDING them...which is a whole other thing.

Obviously 888 already has them but at least APAT has a shot at bringing them into the ranks. Who knows, perhaps one day APAT will go global and then all this groundwork will pay off.

I accept that... but why call it an APAT tournament when quite clearly it isn"t ?

I think maybe we"ll just have to agree to disagree.

How is it not an APAT tournament with all that APAT added value?...but I guess that you"re right...we"ll just have to disagree.

Ian, your argument is flawed. When there was an APAT tournament in Newcastle last weekend some locals bought it and played - what"s the difference? It was an APAT event and called an APAT event.

Next you"ll be arguing to ban Scottish and Polish people from playing for Leeds ;)
