from his post and others above (including yours, John) people are insinuating that we should use the most accessible venues regardless of country for the Nationals.

Didn"t know I had insinuated that - I must read my posts more carefully in future.

That"s just how it came across to me, and it looks like Tighty thought the same as well based on his reply.
And yeah, I have it lucky from where I am.
As for the Scots - I didn"t see any mention of flying to Dublin and taking the train/driving to Cork from there. Ryanair fly from both Glasgow and Edinburgh to Dublin and the train from Dublin to Cork is an Intercity that leaves every hour. It is possible to get to these events without too much hassle IMO.

Yeah, you"re right - I hadn"t noticed that. I wonder how he translated "a National Championship" into "the Irish National Championship".

My head hurts from reading this thread. :D
My threepenneth.
1) Paulie is easily misunderstood, but imo, he always means well.
2) To be extremely clear on this. Their will always be a Scottish National and it will always be held in Scotland. I don"t believe we have ever failed to get a venue we really wanted, however the reality is that some cardrooms are managed more professionally than others - and we get frustrated with cardrooms who don"t manage our events as we want them managed.
But, we can always get to one of Glasgow or Edinburgh without issue.
Now here is the thing. If we could find an excellent cardroom in Scotland, that would open up the possibility of taking the UK Team or Pub events, or the Europeans, and putting them on in Scotland in addition to the Scottish Amateur Championship. That would be great and enable our Scottish members to enjoy two events on their doorstep which is only fair. But the lack of a great venue (or cardroom manager more specifically) is holding that back right now. We"ll remain on the lookout thought, because people change jobs all the time.

Perhaps we should get a moderator to moderate the moderator! ( that"s not easy to say, or do)
