It has been an eventual trip.
Here it goes, warts (almost literally) and all
I arrive at the Heathrow departure gate to find a group of men on a stag (I hope) addressed as Elvis impersonators. Already worse for wear
I make a silent prayer
"please let them get upgraded, please make them sit miles away from me"
Of course I don"t run quite as well as that.
So there I am in seat 40H. Immediately across the aisle are the Elvi.
It got better. Waitress service begins and they all order a beer. Fair enough.
However their modus operandi was that the last Elvis to finish his beer had to stand up and give a rendition of an Elvis song.
I scrabbled around for my headphones. Never had the lure of an In flight "Harry Potter" glistened so brightly
First beer downed and an Elvis, sized to represent a 1974 Vegas version wedged into an Economy seat, rose unsteadily
"We can"t go on together with SUSPICIOUS MINDS" my emphasis as he shouted the key phrase
At that point the six other Elvi harmonised "Suspicious Minds, woooo-oooohh"
I could sense the collective spirits of sixteen stewardesses sink in a slough of despond. A few passengers bristled. I turned up Ron Weasley.
This continued for an hour or so. Jailhouse rock, check. Love me tender, a surprisingly affecting and haunting check.
Eventually someone must have complained as they were asked by the Head Stewardess, who looked like Pat Butcher from Eastenders in a disappointing puncturing of a perennial fantasy of mine, to stop.
The rest of the flight passed and come 8pm local I was out of my hotel room and off to explore.
I went down to the Carnivale Court in Harrahs next door. I almost turned right round when I saw Laxie cavorting solo to a live band while Jack stood stoically, beer in hand, nearby.
About 15 APATers were there, and I gathered that more were playing the $80 8pm in the poker room.
Off I went and there they were, the poker hard core. Each of the seven or eight tables in play had 2 or 3 APATers on.
I sat behind Ger Senior as he battled with JP Round and Michelle Gascoine. On another Andy Duncan, Paullie and Shogun battled.
Colin Wilson was playing cash with Darren Shallis...and so it went on
Back to Carnivale Court for a while before I went exploring. The place was teeming, the boardwalk a mass of people. I was to be frank a bit over-awed by the place, a real full on experience. I looked across at the Mirage and rounded the corner to be greeted the Venetian. Wow, impressive.
I went inside and the scale of the poker room...enormous. I said hello to a few Brits playing the deepstack, looked around for tikay in vain to say hello, but it was strange to travel thousands of miles and to be shaking hands with people I would normally be updating on on the UK circuit
I was determined to make it through to about midnight, to try and adjust to Vegas time asap.
Around 11.30pm I went slowly back to the IP, passed through the length of the casino floor to the lifts and in I got with about 8 people
Exiting on the 10th floor and to my room I put my key in the door
The end? If only
I was tapped on the shoulder
"Hello" said a statuesque dark lady "can I use your toilet?"
There was no doubting what she was. There was also no doubting that the correct answer was "no"
"Y-y-y-yes" I stumbled. Sometimes it would be easier not to be British and hate offending people....
I immediately regretted it, and i feared I was about to get ripped off. While she was in the bathroom I quickly stuffed my passport and wallet under the bed lol
"Thanks Honey" she said as she re-entered the room
I opened the door
"No problem" I said "good night"
"Lets talk for five minutes sugar"
"No thanks, I need to sleep" I said and gestured to the door
"five minutes honey" I wondered how on earth I had let myself get in this situation.
"No, sleep"
I must have sounded pathetic
"Really, I have to sleep"
I must have looked determined as she walked out of the door, no doubt to resume her prowl of the the IP corridors.
I will not be getting drunk this trip.
Plan for today. Well, I of course woke up at 4am Vegas time. Sigh
I will seek out breakfast in "Hash House a go go" downstairs, try the Harrahs morning tournament, check out Caesars Palace and where the poker room is for tomorrow then over to the Monte Carlo the starting place for the stag do tonight.
I will not be getting drunk this trip.
-
great update Tighty. Looking forward to the next one. ;D
The more I read about everyone over there the more depressed I"m getting :"( :"( :"( :"(

I checked out the tournament room for tomorrow, this morning.
Simply stunning. Over 30 tables in a private room off the main card-room, with the walls lined with WSOP champions
I doubt my pictures will do it justice but here is a past shot...
Caesars Palace itself is stunning too, a real sense of scale and grandeur
Outside the cardroom is a 30+ screen sportsbook with price displays and booths. I could have wasted a day in there....
Also the "Pure" Nightclub. Someone drag Bayliff and Owston out of there over the weekend, please

Buffet report
Well now.
Hash Brown a go-go did not open til 7am so I took a wander (past a pretty busy casino floor) into Harrahs where I saw Stocktons Rock and Cock up and about
I gather in the Harrahs $80 last night the final 5 were APATers and McKinlay beat Ger Junior Heads Up
We paid our $14.99 and partook of the Harrahs All you can eat buffet. Ru Roh.
I managed two platefuls
Plate One, and I took careful note of this
Smoked Salmon/gravadlax
Three types of sausage
Bacon
hash browns
two types of potato
diced tomato
corned beef hash
noodles
chicken stir fry (from the chinese section!)
bread
more sausage (german, smoked)
by plate two I was concentrating on breathing more than recording accurately the fayre consumed though the Stocktons managed waffles with chocolate and toffee sauces on plate two
this is at 7am remember
I wandered to the cake end. Man oh man. For another time. 14 different types of ice cream to choose from too.
Vegas is a bit of a killer for me really. It puts me slap bang in front of some of my biggest potential vices and says "come on, I dare you to say no, sucker". There is a constant battle between the degen me and the sensible me. As I am on a budget, I simply have to be sensible
i will fail on the food though, no way can I turn the Vegas food down.
The rest, 20 hours in, and all is well. I"m winning.
-
Loving the updates Tighty
I"ll keep it in the family and go for JP Round and Richard Baker
-
I can report on behalf of those with have no WiFi at the Casino Royale that it now contains a fair amount of APATers. After learning Craps (degen game, JBWorldwide agrees triumphantly!) and now $60 lighter, we leave them to their "Stag Night". Laxie and Joobs partaking of same - try telling Dawn she isn"t invited!
FatCatStu buying the drinks ($1 all drinks!) after his 4 way split at Harrah"s $60 morning game for $475 each. BigGlen42 one of the others who split the dosh.
After three bacardi"s, we"ve retired back to room for a siesta ahead of our show at the Wynn tonight.
I looked for SirPercival at the Venetian $150 Big Bounty tourney but no luck finding him. I"ve not been to the Rio at WSOP time but the Venetian from a size point of view is a pretty awesome spectacle today. I reckon there are around 150 poker tables packed full! The VDSE"s look great but with only the sats to the Main Event and the $2500 ME itself, it"s something I"m not going to experience ... this time. I"m so looking forward to playing the 1/2 cash tables tonight and the APAT event tomorrow. My guess is that MANY will be rough tomorrow.

My mistake came early, really
I went down to the Monte Carlo early-ish ahead of the stag do revelries
There, in the bar were Ger and Ger junior
"Drink Tighty?"
It was 3pm
"Yes thanks Ger"
It"s now 5am. I might not be completely sober
Anyway, having spent the early hours of the session befriending the most stunning El Salvadorian waitress, it all went downhill from there really. Sadly my attempts to persuade Miss El Salvador to stag failed, but not after many attempts to dredge up from the corner of my mind three facts about El Salvador to impress her with. The Duke was no help. It was like the old game "Name five famous Belgians", only Central American Stylee.
We went to the Diablos Mexican and were gradually joined by Hawaiian shirted APATers before wending our way to the pub and then by cab to the exotically named Frankies Tiki bar, which was right up past the stratosphere in the North end of town.
The bar, obviously Hawaiian themed was once a dive bar with no clientele. The owner had closed down, refurbed and re-opened. With the help of some advertising and a few guide book mentions, he was now confronted by APAT.
I think APAT won. Or lost. but only after the entire cocktail list was consumed. By HoldorFold, Laxie and AndrewT.
I think at one point I strode up to curlarge, busily chatting away to Supernova, and said
"I have just had one of those double rum ****ers. Now I want a Green Gasser"
(Green Gasser: Rum, 150 Proof rum, some sort of fruit juice, lucozade and some rum)
Next to me Paullie D, looking like a mafia boss crossed with Timmy Mallett on Wackaday, opined
"I am four sheets to the wind, Tighty"
I"ll see your four and make it five sheets to the wind, Paullie
I can"t quite remember what else I did, though I am not sure the lady at the end playing video poker who reminded me of Kate Winslett particularly wants to meet me again, but soon the assembled throng were off to an Irish bar, a few lads were off to a strip club and I content censored by moderator and something else inserted taxied back to the IP for an early night ahead of the tournament today
It was a stag do notable for the stag not turning up, but the bride turning up, by the way.
Score, Vegas 2 (Tighty didn"t manage to say no to the food and the drink), Tighty 2 (Tighty did manage to say no to girls and gambling)
Anyway, I had better try to get some more sleep
1am local for the APAT comp and I am nervous....lots of word of mouth about the comp over here, everyone mentioning it to locals across the tables, to cab drivers lol. Richard Offless has apparently persuaded some of a 90- strong party of Liverpudlians staying in the Luxor to come along. Thanks Rich.
So I am nervous, lets hope it goes well. Lets hope that some of the APAT regs are conscious enough to show up.
-
This is an excellent read Rich,
If you and Paulie keep up the good work, it"ll make up for not being there.......... Yeah right!!
:"(
-
Wishing tighty and APAT all the very very best for tonight.
-
Good luck Tighty with the up dateing
-
I"ll have Paul McGuinness and James Edwards please.
-
Curlage and Thinker.
Thanks and GL APAT..
-
Drunken bums the lot of ya.Its a minor miracle that the 3 scots lads werer proberly the only sober one"s last night.Feeling refreshed after a good nights kip.think i might even make it past level 2

Lots of local interest, I do hope it translates into players
As in Europe, the comment I have heard a lot is that this structure/clock is normally only available here at higher buy-ins, and registration is open til the beginning of Level 4. So by then we"ll have a clue as to final numbers
As to the live update itself, I will blog it as normal. Of course most at home will be asleep through most of the play, but the update will be there for you to catch up on afterwards
-
That room looks amazing....gl rich n the rest of the crew

Did you ever think when you and Des first came up with the idea of APAT that you"d be able to take pictures like this!!!
Part way through Season 1 I said to Paulie D, at a London Poker Meetup local game, that it was an ambition to put APAT on in Las Vegas. I can"t tell you how proud I am of this one event tonight. It"s a major milestone.
-
So we are underway with 80 runners and rising
photos being uploaded
smiles are at a premium, its early..after a late one
-
Here is curlarge, Richard Baker
All the APATers out here owe Richard a debt of gratitude.
Des and I were struggling for months to get an event in Vegas, knocked back in a few places and it was looking bleak. Then at a late stage Richard came through with a personal contact or two at Caesars Palace and we went from there
(https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-ueP4YKzclSM/TsgdF7j1MVI/AAAAAAAAt9M/IQrpTJnfqoI/s512/IMG_9583.JPG)

And so you should be Des!! An amazing job and a truly amazing event tonight. Congratulations and long way it continue.
will do my best stick with the update for ad long as I can tonight!
-
Don Logan is the early chip leader, as he has eliminated a local player with turned nut flush against Pocket Kings
It will be interesting to see hope the Vegas players adapt to a structure they wouldn"t normally play at this buy in
From the evidence of this one hand, Kings raise pre, c-bet a two heart flop and then commit the rest of the stack when the heart comes on the turn...some adapting is necessary
Logan 21,500

If you ask me nicely, I can reveal the names of two notable British players yet to make it to the tournament, suffering the after effects of last night
One played cash in Harrahs til 8am, went to bed the worse for wear then...much the worse for wear....

On a K-Q-7-6-5 board
Three players in the pot
Carl Lybert and two Vegas players
On the river Vegas 1 bets, Vegas 2 calls, Lybert over-calls
On their backs
Lybert 2-2 wins the pot!
Style of player here, so far....bet it like you have it, then bet it again like you have it, and if someone raises call just in case you hit
The Brits so far, and it is early days, are in value town.....
-
Updates on Matt M and Todd W Donny please?
Matt is still awake. That is worthy of mention. Not much progress in his chip stack
Donny Osmond about 13,000. Resplendent in BCPC clothes, doing a fine ambassadorial job for West Bromwich"s finest poker club.

You"ll need to come up with someone more obscure than Foreman. His comeback after Ali, but a big mistake in choice of opponent caused one of Foreman"s toughest and most exciting fights. Lyle had him down twice in the 4th and almost knocked him out in the 1st, 4th & 5th. Lyle also down in the 4th & 5th (didn"t get up).
