Me and a mate (yes I do have one) did this last year but did not keep any records so this is a way of me keeping a record. This is not a tipping thread, in fact if you did the opposite to what I do then you won"t go for wrong.
The idea is that you bet on the handicap which is normally 10/11. To begin with it will be just singles and doubles . They are 7 games a week, I will be backing in 2 or 3 off them but will keep a record of all games.
Last year I can recall on 3 weekends that the handicapper got it wrong, and all 7 games went the way of the team with minus points so you could just back blind but they will be some kind of thinking behind the selections I make. Not by me as I know nothing about Rugby League but from my mate who follows it.
I will be backing the team with minus points about 90% of the time but will also go with the underdog sometimes if we see value.
You will get different spread of points with different bookies but for the purpose of this I will be using William Hill
Will be starting with 100pts. No set rules, like only back % of the bankroll. Going to go with my gut (this is where I normally go wrong)

I might be a mad gambler but please give me some credit :D

Leeds -10 v Hull KR 36-14 Leeds are slow starters but I have heard they are training well, Hull KR looking good, Leeds but not by much
Widnes -2 v Wakefield 14-32 Both teams have new line ups, one to watch
London v St Helens -12 24-34 London are making up the numbers, St H should run away with this
Salford -2 v Castleford 10-24 Salford looking poor, Castleford had a up and down season but should take it
Bradford v Catalan -2 12-34 Bradford are good on their day but is this the day, Catalan are brilliant at home but not away, one to watch
Hull v Warrington -8 20-20 Hull bottom of table candidates, Warrington top of table candidates, need I say more
Wigan -16 v Huddersfield 16-20 Wigan at home, Huddersfield away, home win all night long
-
Lol hull are not bottom of the table candidates. I believe handicaps are available now and I think Wakefield are +2 and I think we will win. Look for wire giving the giants a beating hopefully as huddersfield have a few out I think
-
Also be careful with London, they have a good looking team and tend to start well. They were top after a few games last season
-
Thanks Dean, didn't think they would be up yet, will take a look later
-
From what I've read Hull have gone backwards but Hull KR have improved over the preseason. I will keep an eye on London. I'm surprised with the Salford v Castleford game I would put Castleford at -6
-
I may go for Salford at home and new stadium at evens.
Would say the hull teams are pretty similar to previous years even though coachingstuctures etc have changed, would take fc over kr at the moment.
It"s first week of the season and literally anything could happen so certainly don"t lump alot on opening weekend
-
I would also be careful about Bradford v Catalan.. Bradford have been DIRE in recent times and catalans are a damn good side...
-
Looking at the announced squads I"d be on wakey with 2 start for sure and that"s not because they are my team.
-

I agree, like I said this is one to watch but Catalans have allot of injuries and not that good away from home.
-
BET 1
Because It"s on TV and they are my home team, bet 1 is 5pts on Wakefield at 11/10 from scratch. This bet is more form the heart than my head, the game for me is to close to call but Dean seems to think It"s a good bet. If it wasn"t on TV I wouldn"t be backing on it
-
Bet 2
Leeds -12 10pts
My friend says Leeds has been playing well in the close season and with them playing the WCC in a couple of weeks they should be on top form. The trouble with him saying this is that his a big Leeds fan so he would say this.
-
Bet 3
Castlford from scratch 33pts at 6/5
Seems a big bet with only a 100pts bankroll but I have a 25 refund if the bet loses so its only a 8pt bet to win 37pts
-
Bet 4
5pts on Catalan -2 @10/11
-
decent start lol
-
Not a bad weekend, 4 bets 4 wins, 51 points profit. I said in the opening post I would go against the handicapper most of the time, glad I didn"t this weekend as it went 2-5 (I did back the 2)
-
St Helens -22 v Salford 38-10
Catalans -8 v Hull FC P
Wigan -6 v Leeds 20-6
Huddersfield -22 v Widnes 66-6
Warrington -20 v London 50-10
Castleford -6 v Bradford 12-20
Wakefield SCR v Hull KR 10-22
-
Early thoughts are Catalans and Castleford look to be the best bets. Leeds playing well but Wigan got a point to prove after last week. St H will win but by 22? Again Huddersfield will win but 22 might be too much. Same can be said about Warrington. I like the look of Wakefield but will wait to see how the other games go.
-
Bet5
Catalans -8 10pts 10/11
-
Probably should steer clear of the Wakefield game this week.
If the weather is ok I would take saints even with that start

I agree with St H, I think that they will win but we try to keep away from teams over -16 but after saying that we will probably be backing Huddersfield at -22 :-\. My mate thinks that's the better bet than St H. The Wakefield game would only be if we had a good Friday and Saturday

Bet 6
5pts on St H -22

Yeah but surely a team can"t be that crap 2 weeks running

Only 10? We were awful last week! Make it 50! ;)
If I had a bigger bankroll I would, but playing it safe for now, I"m due a loss after having 5 straight wins
-
Out of the 5 games (1 SCR and 1 posponed) 4 went the way of - teams
-
-
Not seen the squads/teams yet but manly will be decent
-
Huddersfield v Warrington -6 22-32
Catalans Dragons -14 v Castleford 28-20
Bradford v Wigan -12 16-54
Hull KR v St Helens -10 36-36
Widnes v Salford -6 18-38
Hull FC -14 v London Broncos 22-14
-
Bet 8
Leeds SCR 10pts @ 2.68
Don't know if this is good or bad but since I'm going to the game with a Leeds fan it would be rude to back Manly and I cannot go to a sporting event and not have a bet.
-
Bet 9
Warrington -6 11pts @ 10/11

St Helens -10 9pts @ 8/11

I like Hull, Wakefield and Leeds here but another tough predicting week
-
Stains, Leeds, Wigan for me.
-
Bet 11
10pts double St Helens -10 and Hull FC -6
-
Hull, Huddersfield, Wigan for me.
-
Absolute sick finish tonight
-
:)
I had a tenner on Catalans off scratch....
Only watched the first half though as I thought they were poor and was watching my money drip away....
Just looked at BBC site now and am a happy bunny... :D
-
Talk about a game of two half"s
At half time I was counting my money.
-
Try again
Bet 12
10pts double Huddersfield -10 and Wgan -14
-
Castleford v Leeds (-16.0) 14-36
Salford (-6.0) v London Broncos 44-12
Bradford v Warrington (-18.0) 10-23
Huddersfield v St Helens (-2.0) 17-16
Hull FC (-16.0) v Wakefield 14-10
Hull KR (-24.0) v Widnes 36-0
Wigan (-8) v Catalans Dragons 36-12
-
The best bet this week as to be Wigan, I know that Catalan played brilliant in the 2nd half last week but that was more to do with how poor St H were (Wigan wont lay down). Salford at home against a out of form London looks good to.
-
Wigan & Warrington for me this week.
-
Bet 13
15pts @ 10/11 Salford -6
-
Bet 14
10pts Warrington -18 @10/11
-
Bet 15
5pts double Hull FC -16, and Hull KR -24

Catch up
The season is now 5 weeks old and the league is starting to take shape. Warrington and Wigan are the front runners with Huddersfield and Leeds close behind. The big surprise is St Helens only winning 2 games, Catalans or the ones where you don"t know where you stand with them, one minute they are brilliant the next very very poor (in the same game). Widnes, London, Castleford are at the bottom and will stay there. Wakefield only won one game but have not conceded many points so they could go either way.
We have had 14 bets winning 9, starting with 100pts we now have 170pts so it"s been a steady start. Should have been allot more but been betting to small. I wanted to place a big bet on Wigan yesterday but my mate said he wanted to go with Catalan so we left the game alone.
The next few bets will be a bit bigger than what we have been having (15/20pts win, 10/15pts double) The trouble is we only need 2/3 bets to lose in a row and we are back to the beginning so the next two weeks will either brakes us are make us.

Leeds v Warrington (-2.0) 26-18
St Helens (-10.0) v Hull FC 10-22
Catalans Dragons (-14.0) v Salford 40-18

Hull KR (-8.0) v Bradford 24-36
Widnes v Wigan (-34.0) 37-36
Wakefield v Huddersfield (-10.0) 14-32

Tough week
Would go London, Wigan. Maybe saints and hudds (unfortunately)
-
I know this is not a good bet but it's on the tv so need some interest in the game
Bet 15 (- the void game)
10pts @ 11/10 Leeds from scratch
-

Changed my mind now having a double with St Helens @ -10
-
Bet 16
10pts double Castleford -2, and Huddersfeild -10
-
Many people are tipping Castleford. I think london will win personally
-
Yep, I"m on Cas and Huddersfield. Would have been confident of Wigan winning by that margin if Richards was playing and kicking, but without him it might be Sam kicking and wouldn"t be as confident with him putting them through the posts unless they"re pretty central.
Leeds v Wire is a very tough one to call. The draw might be some cheeky value.
-
That"s it, no more bets on St Helens :-[

Bet 17
Huddersfield -12, 20pts

Huddersfield and Catalans for me. I like Leeds but Salford are playing well. I would have backed St Helens but I said I was going to keep clear of them for now. The others are just too big for my liking at 26,26 and 24 but at the same time can't back against them. Might have a go on Wigan depending on how the weekend goes

Looks like a good week to take on the handicapper, not sure on Bradford at -10 but apart from that the rest look good value
-
Wakey and London
Also consider saints with new coach etc

Is this with your head or your hart ;)
Defo London, Saints have been so so poor and Leeds have been so so good, was expecting -10/-12 for Leeds. Huddersfield looks the best bet.

Saints are HUGE value at -4.
Wigan have loads of forwards out, including O"Loughlin, Mossop, Farrell, Lauaki, Flower, and of course Fielden.
Saints are missing a couple of players, but nothing like Wigan. Lima and Prescott have to play out of their skins for the full 80 minutes, as does McIlorum.
Tough, tough game for Wigan.
-
Don"t agree with HUGE value. Anything can happen in these Easter fixtures and I think it is difficult this weekend, no real stand out bets for me

Huuuuuge value.
Bookies were offering -4 before O"Loughlin was ruled out yesterday.
-
Bet 29
10pts double
St Helens -4
Bradford +12

Bloody good first half from Wigan. Very good defensive effort. More of the same effort in the second half will be great, thanks!
