How have you found the website performance today?
We made some slight setup changes late yesterday as we have been suffering with laggy performance over the last few weeks.
-
For me it was dead slow this afternoon, and timed out a few times.... but tonight"s it"s lightning quick.
-
Weekend it was very slow, today it was bit better.

Much improved thi evening thn the weekend.
Quick question on the advertising banners, not sure if I missed a post, is this an addition to the website and a revenue generator ?

Thanks Don.
Yes, I added the banners last night to understand whether they receive any click throughs. We would earn a small percentage of any product bought via that clickthrough. If we do more of this I want to ensure the links are contextually relevant to APAT. We should be adding Dell tomorrow, which offers some potential.

Superfast tonight.....
-
Haven"t noticed any difference i.e. it still goes from lightening fast to dead at random times of the day. This morning the site was down for a time around 9.30 ish then when it came back it was dead slow. Similar throughout the w/e.
Right now seems OK but it doesn"t seem to stay like this for very long.

Exactly this ^^^^^
-
does seem a lot faster today than it was over the weekend.
-
as i write this it"s taking about 5-10 secs per refresh
edit: it took 30 secs from hitting "post" to post
-
Half an hour ago I couldn"t get on the site at all.
-
Nice and zoopy now. Keep the feedback going guys, it"s helpful as we adjust the timing belt...
-
Way faster for me now.
-
Let"s see whether it lasts...
-
weeeeeeeeeee
-
Only been accessing APAT through iPhone last few days and it"s been fine for me.
-
I have found the site performance way faster today than in previous days, defo makes it much more fun to flit around.
-
Currently varying between 10, 20 and 30 seconds to load individual pages.
-
One extreme to the other ultra fast last time i was on to the slowest I can remember it today. using same router/laptop, so seems a bit weird.
Very odd - it seems plenty fast for me at the minute.
-
Apologies Des, I think I was running a scan in the background, slowing my speed down, just realised.
-
Anyone else finding page refresh really, really slow tonight ?

Quick question... A friend of mine has been trying to join APAT by clicking on the join banner and it takes him through to the forum, i have tried this and confirm the same thing...how does he join?

Phil,
You ran that test from New York. Have you factored in the time zone difference and any exchange rate fluctuations between the USD and GBP ?

We"ve been battling a lot with our technical partner over this issue, but will be moving to a new, much higher specification dedicated server later this week with the objective of putting these site lagging issues behind us.
In reality we"ve had over 1 million views across the forum and main site during February and have probably outgrown our current server.
Thanks for your patience in the interim.

Which would be an improvement on the way Des is currently running the site on one of his old laptops. ;D

A ZX Spectrum WITH a built in monitor
LUXURY!
I remember my dad bringing home the, I think, ZX80 (maybe 81) that you had to plugged into the telly to see a screen...and then you had to type the program..that ran once (if you made no mistakes) and then it forgot as it had no internal memory.
Oh...and yes, we did have Pong.
-
Those were the days - had a ZX81 with 1k of RAM, and had to plug it into the TV. Spent hours typing in BASIC scripts copied from magazines, and then several more hours searching for the frikkin "Syntax Error".
It was a Happy Xmas when I got a RAM upgrade (a 16K Panda that resembled a house brick and weighed around half a ton, and plugged into the back, but you couldn"t knock the table or it would disconnect), and an full size external keyboard with rubber keys (I say external literally - had to take the gubbins out of the ZX81 box and rebuild them inside the new keyboard) - so much better than the original touch pad keys. The biggest keyboard issue was the lack of key repetition.
These were the days when copying a game meant typing in the BASIC programme by hand, then saving it to tape on an attached tape recorder.... then taking that tape and putting it in my Dad"s state of the art Amstrad stereo that had TWO cassette decks and enabled tape-to-tape recording!
Oh the heady days.
-
I first encountered "computing" at senior school where we had to program with punch tape on giant keyboard machines.
The school had the benefit as it had THE computer for the local council located on it"s premises. That meant we only had access on certain days as, on the others, it was used to work out salaries & the rates bills.
The fun part was working out the code so that the punched holes would spell put dirty words on the tape. You then made it repeat hundreds of times onto tape which could then throw like streamers.
Heady days indeed.

Quick update.
Our new server has been built and a technician is now loading the latest edition of all of the appropriate applications to it. They will then migrate the APAT applications and content to it and I will test prior to go live.
I"m anticipating another two or three days.
-
hoorah - the site has been dog slow for days

Quick update.
We received access to the new server today and will be testing over the weekend. All being well, it should go live early next week, ideally Monday.
-
Update:
I"ve asked Easyspace to update our Forum software before going live. All else seems good in testing. Once that update has taken place I"ll change the DNS settings and the new server should be live within hours. Thanks for everyone"s patience in the interim.

Hopefully that"s just back ups or something running because it"s speedy now
-
Still awaiting the forum upgrade, so on old server.

I"m having a frantic shufty around the forum while it"s working. Most of the time I can"t connect at all. Can"t wait for the new server... :)

Are we plugged into the new server now ?

Are we plugged into the new server now ?
Dunno...but it"s pretty whizzy. ;D
-
Are we plugged into the new server now ?
Unfortunately not yet Ian.
I"ve largely left the old server alone over the weekend as our technical parter is undertaking a number of backup / migration tasks and I didn"t want to reboot while that sort of stuff was going on in the background.
I will make a VERY BIG announcement when the new server is online!
-
Sites flying, first time I"ve been able to get on in days!

Can someone please slow the forum down my computer is overheating with the speed

Umm, just to clarify - I mean I will actually state the new server in place - don"t be looking for an announcement that APAT has bought PokerStars on easy payment terms!

So what are your plans with your soon-to-be-acquired Full Tilt?
If you"re not taking over Stars then this is the only logical alternative.

lol been trying to get on since 10am this morning, but it"s been varying between completely dead and timing out.

It"s pretty hit and miss for me.
Sometimes it"s like lightning, sometimes it"s like treacle and I have top notch bandwidth at home and at work.

Pretty much this for me as well.
Can"t be good for business. Is there a problem with the new server, or is it not yet installed?
-
There were issues with the new setup and I refused the build. It was rebuilt last week and we should see it back online for user testing later today.
