Join me at the Macau Sporting Club in Cork over the weekend of July 7th & 8th for a live update from the Irish Amateur Poker Championship.
We"ll closely follow the 20 or so UK players who are travelling to the event, to see if any of them can bring the title back to the UK following Tipperary man Bobby O"Donnell"s win in last year"s event.
I also hope to stream some live table video in a simple one camera set up, through our APAT TV Live Streaming (http://www.apat.com/forum/index.php?topic=11493.0) thread.

40 seats have already been allocated at the Macau Sporting Club and we are expecting a field of between 100 and 120 players for the event.
-
With our UK contingent making up an estimated fifth of the overall field, how many of them will make the final table and who do you think will last the longest? Whoever gets both parts to the question right will earn a specially commissioned photoshopped picture alongside John Terry. :)
-
2 finalists
Richard Baker for last longest
-
I will go with the UK players to equal last years one final tabalist (if tabalist is a word) and I will go for Jp.
-
UK Player List:
Chen Bond
?
-
3 final tablists
I will return the faith and say Don Roberts for the last longer.... so long as he doesn"t flop a boat ;D

I will return the faith and say Don Roberts for the last longer.... so long as he doesn"t flop a boat ;D
Lol, my final flop last year at this venue will take some topping :(
-
Only because I wouldn"t like to be seen alongside John Terry, I will go for 5 finalists and me to last the longest.
-
Don the last flop you had was between the wall and your car. Thinking back can"t help comparing it to Delboy falling through the bar lol :)
-
Good luck this weekend everyone!
I do not recommend the Gresham Hotel bar in MacCurtain street, just behind the Macau, late on Friday at all. Not at all. :D :)

Good luck everyone! Wish I was there, though at least it"s not raining here ;)
I"ll go for 2 from the UK making the final table, and I"ll go for Paulie to last longest. I sense it"s his time!
-
Howdy from Cork folks, where it"s a gorgeous day and I"m already questioning the wisdom of being sat in a dark cardroom for the next twelve hours!
A number of the players are milling around the cardroom as we speak, watching one or other of the many big sporting events of the weekend as we await kick off at 2.30pm. We are anticipating a small field of between 70 and 100 runners and we"ll clarify the final number after the first two levels.
The wifi signal is not too great at the Macau, but we are trialing a live stream from the event, just click this link to view (http://www.apat.com/forum/index.php?topic=11493.msg183770#new).
-
Of the travelling APAT players, I met a pained looking Duke in the hotel lobby this morning, while Paulie ambled out of the lift looking similarly challenged. Those two aside, I"ve briefly said hello to Rita Galvin and her lady friend, Ken and Mrs McBride, Frank and Damien Bailie, Dave "Mr Irritating" Pilkington, Lee Wyatt, Kevin O"Hanlon, JP Round, Rich "Curly" Baker, Matt Carter, Vaino Tiik, Chen Tam and his good lady and a surprisingly non wellingtoned Don Roberts. Everybody"s in good humour and looking forward to the event starting.
-
The tournament has started and we"re just awaiting on several players to sit down, we"ll come back with the names of the players on the stream at that point, but I can tell you that Matt Carter, Frank Bailie, Rita Galvin and last year"s runner up Ken Burgess are all sat on that table.
-
Well we"ve just lost Don Roberts in the first few minutes, against his friend Paul Gildea. The inevitable cooler of Paul"s Aces against Don"s Kings, saw London Water Walker exit the tournament first.
-
:( He"s had worse beats in APATs... UL Don, Guinness FTW x
-
5 to make the final table and maybe Don Roberts to last longest
GL all
Well that worked well :"(
-
The players on the streaming table at the moment are as follows:-

Vincent O"Donovan
Rita Galvin

Cathail O"Connell
-
We have 75 players in, with 33 minutes remaining in level 2.
Anthony Ahern has also just exited on table 8.

How are you finding the quality of the stream? I have it set on a relatively low bitrate as there were some issues getting it up and running, but might try and dial it up a bit if it"s iffy at home?
-
Quality is just "OK" Des.... although its difficult to tell but I"m sure thats my mam on the live feed table, buy her a sherry, tell her I"m fixing her digital TV later and tell her bink the win please. I"m still waiting for the BMX from my 11th birthday. Thanks x
-
Just how many green tops does JP own? :)
-
There"s the beauty of a portable solution...table JP now on the stream.
JP in seat 2, Ger in 6, Paul Gildea in 7.

Liam Chegwell and Harold Mulclaire out.
We"ve 4 minutes left on the level and that will finalise the field, at which point I"ll start to pull together chip counts.

Level 3, 75-150, 23mins remaining.
Duke is rollercoasting.
Up to 24k, he found a pair of Queens and raised the standard 3x.
The Big Blind calls.
The flop is good Jh 5s 2d
A raising war ensues, costing Mr Smyth 10k of his chips, at which point he finds his opponent holding 5h 2c.
Ouch.

We"ve just lost Kevin O"Hanlon. Queens looked very good to kev, who committed his last 5k, only to find an opponent with Kings.

-
We"ve just gone to a 40 minute break and an opportunity for everyone to get the last of the sunshine in the day (and possibly the summer)!
-
Our chipleader is Davie Croke on 41k. We didn"t get a picture of Davie, but we have reason to believe he"s a Top Gear fan...

Davie Pilkington obliterates the Duke, calling Ger"s all in on a flop of Ah 9c 6h.
Mr P showed Kh 4h for the flush draw, while Ger showed 9s 6c for two pair.
A heart on the turn gave the 18k pot to Davie.
Duke is left with under 5k.

I thought he had a bit of Andy Murray and a bit of Mark Webber in him. Mind you, what he gets up to in his private life is his own business.

67 remain, with average chips at 18,200.

Good luck all players, enjoy the time.

Matt Carter - 20k
Frank Bailie - 16k
Rita Galvin - 7k

Lee Wyatt - 19k
Jappy Round - 15k
Valerie McGrath - 19k

Chipleader at the last break Davie Croke remains on around 45k and there are a couple of stacks in that ballpark in the room, but not too many beyond.
-
We"ve just reached the end of level 6 and players have gone on a ten minute break.
-
Good evening Des and the crew (is there a crew?)
Sorry I cant be with you all this weekend (back to Qatar tomorrow :( )
Best of luck to all the usual suspects, particularly Ger ;)
-
All relatively quiet here at the moment. 54 remain with ten minutes left on level 7, 200-400 (50).
The stream will be offline for a little while, but it would be useful to know whether it has added anything to the update?
-
Miami Vice alert!
We"ve just lost Crockett and Tubbs in quick succession.
Davie Pilkington thought he had it good, getting his stack in with pocket Aces. Unfortunately his opponent"s Qs 10s connected with the 9d Jh Kc flop in an unforgiving manner, sending the Dubliner to the rail. Irritating.
Elsewhere, Paulie D lost the opportunity to take an enormous pot when the following "internet hand" played out.
Holding Ace Queen, Paulie found himself all in on a flop of Qh Jh 3c against the Big Blind with Ac ad1 and a mid table raiser with 3s 3h.
To make matters worse, the turn brought the Ah and the river brought the Qc.
Paulie actually retained some chips from winning the side pot but the key damage was done and he exited soon after.
-
The event ran off with 81 runners and the euro payouts will be as follows tomorrow:-
1st 2200 Gold GPS Seat
2nd 1400 Silver
3rd 800 Bronze
4th 600
5th 350
6th 250
7th 200
8th 150
9th 125

Rollercoaster five minutes for Rita Galvin.
I caught her thinking hard on an all in push against her.
Finding the call, Rita tabled Kh Ks and found her opponent holding Ac Jh
The table is questioning how the relatively short Rita can be contemplating anything other than the preflop call, but Rita correctly stated that she felt her opponent had at least one over card. As it happened, the board offered no help to her opponent and Rita raked in 29000 chips.
Rita told the table she"d always call with Aces, but similarly would consider any other hand carefully.
As she was talking the next hand was being dealt and UTG pushes all in.
"Call" says Rita.
Even the cleaning lady knew her hand and true enough she tabled the rockets.
Her opponent on this occasion tabled Jacks and Rita said, a Jack"s going to come.
And so she wrote.
Rita back down to just under 20k.
-
Elsewhere on table Rita.
Matt Carter - 23k
Frank Bailie - 15k
Damian Bailie - 8k
Rich Baker - 13k
James Ellis - 30k
-
Lee Wyatt just gone, Tens into Queens, ending a "rollercoaster" tournament.
-
Damian Bailie pushes his last 8k in and is called by Matt Carter.
Bailie tables Ah 2h
Carter tables Kd Kc
The board tantilises 4h Jh Qc
Any Ace or heart will keep Bailie in.
Turn 4c
River 4d and Bailie fails to outlast his father, sat at the same table.
40 remain.
-
The stream is back on now.
http://www.apat.com/forum/index.php?topic=11493.msg183770#new
-
Level 9, 400-800(100)
Rich Baker just out, with Jacks against Kings. He"d lost a biggish pot a short while ago with King Jack against Ace King and couldn"t recover.
38 remain.
-
Unlucky Richard.
Good updates Des, just got back from a BBQ so can"t comment on how the live stream has gone.
-
I reached table JP to find the man himself committing a rather sorry looking 7.5k stack UTG, without a call.
Sitting in seat one, JP told me how he"d lost half of his stack to seat two, when both hit trip Sevens. JP was outkicked. Ouch.
-
Pocket sixes knocking out pocket fours on the stream just there. They both hit sets on the flop. Cruel game this poker.
-
I only reached the table to see the aftermath of a big hand involving Chen Tam and Davie Croke.
Player one was all in with King Jack
Chen had the table covered with Ace Jack
Croke was all in with pocket Tens.
The board brought quads for Croke who is sitting now with around 75k.
Chen is down to just under 20k while player one exits.
37 remain and the players have just gone on a 20 minute break.
-
JP back up to around 19k, with three uncalled pushes. Twice he tells me, he"d have taken a call.
The stream will be coming offline during the break.
-
Start of level 10, 500-1000 (150)

-
Frank Bailie has doubled up with Queens against Ace Queen.
On the same table we"ve just lost Matt Carter, who held pocket Sevens against the pocket Eights of Abens Maurice and the pocket Tens of Paul Gildea. Gildea holds and Carter hits the rail.
33 remain.
We play to 20, or the end of level 13 - whichever comes first.
-
Table JP is now streaming.
-
Sickness
On my table Barry O Sullivan jams a Kc 2c 9s flop with 10c 6c
Greg Twomey snaps with Ac 8c
Greg is ahead and has the bigger flush draw but Barry"s 10 & 6 are live
Obv Barry gets there..... With a running Q J for the straight and a 45k pot
-
Rita Galvin has just doubled up, hitting a straight while holding Ace Jack.
-
Table JP is now streaming.
Did the audio pick up the great line from the Frenchman in Seat 10 around 5 mins ago?
-
JP goes from a couple of bigs, to just over 35k, his Ace Queen sucking out on his opponent"s Aces - a Queen coming on the turn and the river! Can he make back to back finals?
30 still remain.

Jason Buckley takes an approximate 150k pot from previous chipleader Dion Burns. I didn"t see how the action went, but Buckley called off his stack holding pocket Eights, to find Burns with pocket Fives which failed to improve. Buckley is our new chipleader.

We are about to start level 12 with blinds at 800-1600(250).
27 players remain.
The average stack is 45,000.
We will play down to 20, or the end of level 13 - whichever comes first.
-
JP"s crushed, his Ace King failing to improve against his opponent"s pocket Tens. He has around 10k left and will be looking to get them in pretty pronto.
-
David Costello just out in 27th.

Ken McBride 33k and James Ellis 30k holding on, on table 3.
-
The rest of the remaining forum contingent are similarly short.
JP"s is hanging in by fingernails at the moment as is Rita Galvin.
Frank Bailie has 20k.
Valerie McGrath is best placed on 48k.
-
Frank pushes all in.
Call says Rita. Hmmm, what could that mean.
Frank turns over pocket Nines and Rita the Aces.
Rita holds and more than doubles to over 30k.
Frank has a bowl of rice left.
-
Frank Bailie exits in 26th place in the very next hand.

We lost somebody else at the same time as Frank, 24 left.
I believe our odd man out was Paul Gildea. No hand details.
-
JP doubles up seat Eight, his Tens falling behind Ace Three, when an Ace hit the flop.
JP is short again, but he has been for long periods of the day and he seems comfortable with it.
-
Barry O"Sullivan just out in 23rd on the feature table.

Unfortunately we lost JP in 22nd, at the same time as Ed Roycroft. His pocket Sevens beaten by an Ace on the river.
Nice one Des, so cruel. Good effort JP, but it just never looked like being your day.
I"m on Ken McBride"s team for Day 2 - until he gets his AA busted as usual. Then I"m supporting Rita Galvin, who I think has the game to go all the way in this.

Rita and Ken are up for the last longer, will they chop....

I think there must be a problem with the card buttons.
The six of clubs is replacing one of the kings. The frank Bailie exit hand looks wrong and JPs sick hand has two 6 of clubs.
Great work though Des. Am enjoying catching up on the train back from London after an epic 40th bash.

Ken gone in 9th I believe Kevin and Duke just gone 7th. Sounds like a good game...across the cardroom ;)
-
The final is being played in great humour and I don"t think I"ve ever seen as many flops.
Three of the lads are Irish, while Abbou is French and Maurice is American.
-
It"s incredible how the momentum has swung in this final. Early on it was John Quinn who had over half a million chips and he seemed in control of the final. Then Benjamin Abbou doubled up a couple of times and carried that momentum on to take around half the chips in play. Now it"s Abens Maurice who is the big chipleader. Maurice doubled up late last night and then had to leave to go to work, anteing around 20k in chips in the process. He came in on average at the start of today"s play, but right now he looks like the man to beat.
-
John Quinn shoves a short stack in the SB and Abens Maurice calls.
"Sh*t" says Quinn, caught with his hand in the cookie jar.
Maurice tables Ace Eight of diamonds
Quinn sheepishly turns over Two Three of diamonds, his tournament life at stake.
Oops.
Flop King Seven Jack.
Turn 10
"Give us a Two" shouts Quinn.
River Two.
Oooooooooh go the crowd, as Quinn roars and doubles up.
Maurice smiles and passes some chips. He can afford it.
-
Buckley doubles to 120k. Abbou called his shove with A 7 and Buckley showed pocket Nines.
The board didn"t help the French man.
-
And finally we lose one!
The still short Jason Buckley pushed all in on a flop of 4 4 10 and found the call from chipleader Abens Maurice, holding King Four. A Four on the river rubbed salt in the wound and Buckley exits in 5th.

McCarthy is right back in the game now with around 400k
-
We"ve just lost Benjamin Abbou in 3rd.
With three diamonds on the board, he pushed his stack all in on the river and was called by chipleader Maurice.
Abbou showed two diamonds for a 9 high flush, but incredibly, Maurice had him beaten with a King high flush.
We"re heads up, with Maurice holding a significant chiplead.
-
Abens has enjoyed more of the play heads up and he holds around 750k of the 1.2m chips in play.
-

-
Abens takes a 200k pot with a pocket pair of Tens on a Jack high board.
-
JP came 2nd in the side..... in case anyone cared ;)
-
Charles McCarthy has had a lot of momentum over the past twenty or so hands and he"s edged ahead. We"re seeing lots of flops, however chips are not being conceded needlessly and it looks like we"ll need two big hands to decide the tournament.
-
The players are on a short break.
-
All in and called, Charles holding Ace King and Abens Ace Nine.
We saw both a King and a Nine on the board and as Charles had Abens covered, we have a winner.
Congratulations to Charles McCarthy, 2012 APAT Irish Amateur Poker Champion.
We are about to do photos etc, but thanks for joining us on the stream and the live update over the weekend.
