Title: String betting
Post by: George2Loose on February 17, 2008, 10:58:20 AM
Hi,

I played a local cash game recently and was told stringbetting was allowed because basically "anything goes in a cash game to try and get a read"

I thought this was ridiculous- is this ruling a common one???

I"m not aware of any game where string bets are allowed.

I hope you grabbed their cards and had a look before deciding. What better way than this to get a read. ;D

I don"t think I"ve ever actually seen someone intentionally string-bet trying to get a read - I"ve seen loads of people accidentally do it, but never intentionally, yet it"s something that"s guaranteed to have the whole table jumping about in hysterics.  STRING-BET BURN HIM!  String-betting is the poker equivilent of being Catholic in the 17th century.

You shouldn"t be allowed to do it, but if I ever fell for such a tactic I"d have to take myself off some where quiet and ask myself some searching questions about whether poker is really for me.
