Title: How I made AA fold preflop
Post by: APAThetic on July 16, 2012, 17:41:22 PM
I received my AA (Auto. Assoc.) membership renewal notice for my old banger yesterday and it was a case of good news/bad news.

Good news: As I"ve been a member for over 2 years, I receive an upgrade to Silver Membership "at no extra cost".  :)

Bad news: I noticed my annual membership fee had increased by 32% (£90ish to £120ish).  >:(

I"ve just got vehicle specific cover for Roadside and Relay.

I phoned the renewal line and had a bit of a whinge. I mean, I"d be happy if my salary went up by 32% a year!

I explained that I only paid £90 last year and was not happy with the increase and the rep said "how does £70 sound?". Even my poker face cracked a little. I didn"t even get to the threatening to leave stage. How on earth they can they go from a £30 increase to a £20 reduction in 30 seconds.

Bottom line: AA cracked, 2 minute phone call +EV.

Make sure you guys keep an eye on them automatic renewals.

Thanks fandango. They should send me confirmation in writing within 7 days, so I"ve got a few weeks before they take the money.

Do Greenflag do cars over 10 years old? *cough*17 years*cough*

Works with home insurance too.

A shocking 72%* of people don"t bother to check the renewal and as you dont need to do anything to renew it just gets "filed"

I had a 54% increase (clearly trying it on) quick phone call, and I " qualify for a discount" frozen. Done.

Thanks for the info guys.

I always "intend" to shop around when the renewals crop up, but usually leave it until a couple of days to go then say "sod it, I"ll change it next year". They definitely love sending the "relax and leave everything to us, you don"t need to do anything" letters, while at the same time bumping your premiums up by 20%+.
