The live stream table will no longer be featuring the hole cards :(
This is due to 6 special decks that need to be used for that table now being marked. Instead they"ve switched to a normal deck (without the RFID chip required to display the hole cards). The live stream will still continue, but you"ll have to guess what cards everyone has from now on :)
-
The live stream table will be featuring hole cards after all :) They"ve managed to find a seventh pack!

Finally got to sit down after a day of advance cooking for Christmas.
Loving the live stream with hole cards and looking forward to sitting with these guys at a future APAT event.
2 many good guys to choose a winner from but my top 3 have to be:
Ant - all round nice guy and modest about his game
Ben - sat with him all day yesterday and gave me a memorable image of his ex-wifes zombie fetish
Tom - "cos he"s Scottish
-
Tom Clark ships all in from utg+1. Anthony Williams calls from big blind and shows:
9s 9c.
Tom has:
10c 8h
Jd 2h Ks 8c 9d
Anthony picks up a 400k+ pot. Tom down to a bowl of rice (40k).
--
Next hand. Tom shoves from utg. Paulie calls with TT. Tom shows K3.
Board: 7 Q 9 T 2
Tom leaves us in 6th place for £570.

Round to Ant on the button who dwells and eventually folds.
You can keep that as a template for hands Ant is involved in and just change it the odd time he doesn"t fold to save typing it each time.

Paulie raises to 110k on the button with A5s. Carl flats.
Flop comes: KQ6

Paulie pushes for 200k more. Carl snap calls with KQ for 2 pair.
Paulie flips A5. The KQ remains good, and Paulie finishes in 3rd place for his 3rd Bronze Medal. But, also £1000 of hard cold cash!
We are now heads up!
Rough stacks are:
Carl = 1.6m
Ben = 800k

Good luck Carl
-
So close to immortality Carl......terrific effort Sir.
-
And we have some action... It was all a bit hectic here, so excuse the lack of detail, but the tale goes something like this:
One player bets, the other raises, the other 4-bets him back. The other shoves. The other one calls!!...
So... who has what?...
Ben has.... A5..
and
Carl has..... KK...
The board stays safe for Carl, and he takes... All The Chips!!
And The Title!!
-

Special thanks to all the railers (especially Steve Roderick) who encouraged me throughout a very long Day 2.
Obviously 3rd was not the result I was after, but am pleased that if I was going to donk off (and I did) it could be to Carl.
Great result for him and I"m realy pleased to have taken part and gone so deep. I"ll miss that gold medal though...damn it!

Well played Carl, pleased you didn"t waste my chips

Back home to the snow in Glasgow after an awesome weekend with awesome people. Gutted for Tom after playing 3 days of solid poker and getting so close but delighted for Carl on an amazing win. Well done bud, make mine a double ;)
Huge congrats also to the Scotland B Team who stormed through the points in the team event to win their well deserved Golds, Take a bow Davie, Chris, Naz, Shug & Tom. Loved every minute of the trip with them and my Scotland A team mates Paul "Blackflash Style" Gupta, Jo, Mary & Gordon. Cheers for including me in another superb team event.
To all the regs and the new faces I met over the weekend, cheers to one and all for making it so enjoyable and for suffering my blue moustache (not purple Des) ;D. Same to the brilliant staff of Stoke Genting for looking after us and to Des, Leigh & Matt for another huge APAT success.
APAT = Best community on the planet, end of!!!!
-
hi guys
Just to say thanks to all involve in making my APAT debut so special. Had a great time and enjoyed the banter. The strongest field i have played in and to make final table was the icing on the cake. Although im disappointed with my play in the latter stages overall i played as well as i have ever done. Many thanks to all for making me welcome and congratulaions to Carl and all other winners.
Definately be back next time
Ross ;D ;D ;D ;D

Congratulations also to Ben on his well deserved Silver after grinding for a very long period on Day 1.

Just so there is no confusion, there was the Scottish event played in between Carl"s two victories. It"s very much a back to back win for Carl, and the second player to ever win two National gold"s, and the first to do it in the same season.
Not quite an APAT back to back, but I don"t think he will care at all ;D
Congrats to all the cashers and especially to the medallists, but most importantly, a massive congratulations to Emma, for sitting through another deep run from Carl. She is amazing !!!!!!!
-
Ah well in that case it"s a terrible achievement really isn"t it :p
Well done again Carl, utter legend :)
-
Congrats to the APAT team for another professionally run weekend.
Congrats to Carl. for an amazing achievement.
Also to the other APAT legend - Darren Shallis for winning the Omaha.
Also to Aneurin for coming second.
I suppose it makes up partly for the trouncing we had in the team event.
-
THANKS APAT ANOTHER GREAT EVENT,WELL CHUFFED FOR CARL AND WELL DONE EMMA FOR YOUR PATIENCE HOPE YOU BOTH HAD A GOOD TRIP HOME SEE YOU IN MARCH.RITA, :-* ;)
-
Well done Carl. Really pleased for you. Good to see deep runs for Ant, Paulie and Ian as well.
Gutted I wasn"t there, sounded like a great weekend
-
Wow I"m totally speechless for a change!!..
Ermmmm what can I say? Believe me I am totally amazed that I was able to win one but two is unthinkable.
I have so many people to thank for their support both at Stoke on the forum, so will post blog refresher tommorow in more depth. So many kind words is humbling especially all those who still tolerate my awesome jokes ;D.
Congrats to all those who cashed.. Unlucky Tom who is my nemesis whos aggressive play scares the poop out of me, 5th was strong finish well played sir.. Also Ian and Ant who played a blinder, I owe Ant a drink for his AJ BB fold, I was a gonna if George had not of isolated phew!!.. I know Paulie wanted that gold medal bad.. But I"m sure his great play will be rewarded soon was just unlucky to be sat next to a Luckbox card rack.. Enjoy the cash and win big in Vegas sir..
Congrats to Ben for silver I know he was a little disappointed with his short HU battle, but a silver Medal and tasty payday soon soften the blow I"m sure.
Thanks to APAT Des, Leigh, Matt another outstanding weekend.. Thanks to Genting and the staff for looking after me dealers who where fantastic as always, the added value series seat aswell gonna have a busy year next year by the looks :).
And a special thankyou to the smashing Nellie and her lovely daughter Michelle, Emma was entertained thoroughly with the Mexico story lmao, my jaw is still hurting.. Also a thankyou to,Paul and Chris who understand that my chip stacking technique is somewhat to be desired! And where there to lend a helping hand.. THANKYOU ALL xx
-
Props - totes emosh - AMAZEBALLS! VWP Carl
Ul Ant grrr next time
-
Great result again Carl, well done. Second gold medal (I told Darren Shallis at the start of day two I thought you were in with a really good chance).
You can definitely afford to take you lovely lady Emma away for a weekend or something now. Between poker and reading your facebook jokes I am sure she must need a holiday :-)
-
Despite being rather jetlagged, thoroughly knackered, and "out of it" for long periods of the weekend, I have to say I enjoyed this event a lot :) It was great to see Carl win another event - he"s won 100% of the events he"s played that I"ve been updating I think!... And as Carl didn"t play Scotland, this does count as back-to-back in my book :)
Loved the streaming aspect of the event too. Definitely added a lot of fun to the proceedings, and made reporting on the hands very interesting from an Updater"s point of view :)
Finally a big thanks to the managers, TD, dealers, valets at Stoke, who made us all very welcome, and ran the whole tourney excellently. I"d definitely vote it as a place we return to next season.
-
Congrats to Carl! Was really well deserved. I was a little gutted at the heads up being so short and brutal but it didn"t take much reflection to go back to being utterly delighted at the weekend! Was a great tournament and a great time. Thanks to everyone who makes these happen and I hope be in Luton for the team event in January and see you all there.
Ben

VWP to you Ben, an awesome effort to finish 2nd after being a short stack coming into Day 2 and nice time to find KK when I can"t take my foot of the accelerator! An absolute pleasure to have you on the table.

2. Anuerin Venables: £200
3. Sharon Roberts: £130

The other guy has a name, shame no one could be bothered to find out what it was, think people who make the effort to play in lots of apat events deserve better than this.

Apologies. I was updating the main event, and asked the 3 who approached the update desk to tell me of their finishing places (Darren, Anuerin, and Sharon) how many were paid, and who the 4th placed finisher was. Unfortunately none of them knew, so I assumed the player was a non-APAT member and most likely a casino local, so opted for "the other guy".
In retrospect, not a great choice of words, but absolutely no offence intended.

Hate it when people berate the very small team of volunteers that give up their time to provide updates and administration for these events. It"s a difficult and thankless task as it is.

Sorry this happened Chris - if this was you, particularly as we spoke a little earlier in the day! Matt's explained how it happened and it"s a rare anomoly indeed, but our apologies nonetheless.

Des.

To expand on Matt's point, quite a lot of effort was made at the time in the sense that everybody involved in the conversation was asked. The 4th place finisher was described to all, the seat number pointed out, the fact that he was also with a couple of familiar faces railing etc. The phrase "the other guy" just came up in that conversation and seemed amusing at the time when the player still could not be identified.
I understand why the term may prevoke a reaction, but a slightly harsh reaction imho
-
sorry i think i have over stepped the mark in the way i posted my comments, i was just trying to get my point across that the other guy is not the right term for someone who has just cashed in a apat event, personally i would have hoped that the casino would have been able to help with this matter(could be wrong but i think they took his name when he went to get his ticket for his cash from the poker floor manager). I would like to say sorry to any of the apat staff if i have offended them as that was not my point and nor will it ever be as they do a great job, i just promote the apat to all the people that i know that play poker and want the best for it so it continues. No des it was not me 4th in PLO would be a miracle beyond miracles. For the record i had a great weekend and hope to be playing the next apat whenever i can
-
Hi Chris,
I totally agree with what you are saying, and no need for you to apologise!
AceOnTheRiver above details the sequence of events. However, I should clearly have taken a quick "time out" from updating the Main Event to get the name of the 4th place finisher (it would only have taken a couple of minutes). But, a combination of being seriously jetlagged and trying not to miss the final few hands in the Main, meant I didn"t.
Will make sure I do this next time though.
-

Fair post that.
Do you know his name, as Matt could then edit his OP?

You can call off the search........I was "the other guy".
I have played many APAT events, both live and online as Chris pointed out.But so have 1000s of others.
I appreciate the hard work you guys put in and the fact that the M/E was coming to an enthralling climax. So to miss the 4th place finisher in the PLO is no great surprise.
Thanks for a great weekend APAT,and very well done Carl (your wife looks nothing like your descriptions on facebook!!)
Thanks Chris for fighting my corner.
Finally,i would kinda like to keep the nickname as i have never had one before.
Thanks again,

Congrats on the 4th spot Karl & it was nice to meet "the other guy"!
I can honestly say I am guilty of not knowing lots of names but faces at APAT events but I"m learning remembering more each time, and as others have said it was the end of a normal but hectic weekend and having updated myself it is hard work.
The only thing I can add is that if anyone cashes in an event could you please take a couple of minutes of your time and go and let the updater/s know yourself so that this doesn"t happen and as a bonus you"ll probably get your name spelt correctly as well. Well apart from Stu and a few other APAT legends ofc who usually go by terms of endearment instead.

Loving this sooo much ;D ;D ;D
I probably met you at the weekend ... but like Shaz (Supernova) I had difficulty in remembering all the names for about my first 3 seasons and tend to go by forum names. Instead I hug everyone ... love APAT weekends for the hugs alone ;D
Well done on your 4th place cash x

Hi Karl, thanks for being understanding re: the muff up! It"s not a mistake I"ll be likely to repeat (still learning the APAT ropes!).
nyerun, how do you spell your name? :)
-
nyerun, how do you spell your name?
I don"t think his is a real name anyway.
I feel a bit bad for the other guy. It happened to me in my first significant non-APAT event, a Gala tournament a couple of years ago, when the AWOP team couldn"t be bothered to find out my name. It was worse cos it was a Main Event and, even when we were down to 20 players, the commentator (who sounded like he was speaking a foreign language) was name-checking all his mates but still referring to me as "the other player" when I was in a hand. I was pretty annoyed at the time but I"m glad to say that I got over it and didn"t bear any grudge against the ignorant lazy feckers and I"ve forgotten all about it now.
I hope the other guy is able to let go of it as completely as I have. Unfortunately, I guess we will never find out his identity.
