I played the £100 FO at Stockton G on Saturday. It"s a pretty deepstacked tournament with 20k starting stack (and 2k extra for those who registered for the start and the GUKPT structure on a 30 minute clock.
Lots of room for manoeuvre you"d think.
But it"s played, in the main, by people whose usual game is the standard midweek casino tourney where limping is the order of the day and opening raise sizes at 50/100 isn"t 250 but 450, or more.
That raise size doesn"t get much in the way of folds either. I opened to 700 at 100/200 with one limper and six players saw the flop...
So we"re faced with a bloated (2100) pot six ways and perhaps we have Jh Js on a 7h 7s 9d flop and we"re facing a donk lead of 1400 from one of our serial limp-callers. It"s even worse when we"ve raised A s Ks
All of this makes our raise/3bet sizing and range pretty tricky to get right,
Playing DTD Deepstacks feels so much easier somehow. Partly because of the slightly longer clock and bigger stack, but mostly because the bulk of the field will be opening to 2x(+ a little bit) and we can 3bet to maybe 4.5x-ish and get to the flop with just one or two opponents.
So, is our only option to tighten up and make our raises massive with our range heavily weighted towards top 10% hands and only 3bet with a range that is almost all QQ+?

I do ok in casino comps and tend to find that TAG early and LAG later (near to and in the money) works well.
I just spend a fair time observing the table early doors. This gives me enough entertainment to make up for not playing many hands.

The last one I played there Dave the blinds were 25/50 and the standard raise.. unopened.. was 750 out of a 5k starting stack.. AND people were calling :-\ I got to the point were there was no point raising, didnt matter how many BB I had.. open shove premium hands, fold the rest. Wasnt poker. Havent been back since.

Anyway.. in answer to the question.. didnt Brian "the fossil" final table? And does so consistently.. may answer the question here x

David, imho the players in this game are generally not used to having that many chips in front of them and rarely sit 2-400 BB deep, so have no clues about opening hand ranges, position, bet sizing etc etc. they think I have 20k in chips and its only costing me 250, 350, 450, 550, 650, 750, 850, 950, to call, I have 24o but thats cheap (in relation to my stack), I"m gonna call. Basically they are playing Loose Passive, therefore follow your strategy to play against Loose Passive players.
