Title: WCOAP 2013 - Advanced Travel Tips
Post by: Paulie_D on January 10, 2013, 16:15:39 PM
Guys.

I may or may not do a full Travel Tips post for WCOAP as I suspect most of us are fully aware of the various offerings in and around DTD.

Prices for the "regular" favourites are somewhat higher than before due to the the Easter break and I am seeing £60 per night at Holiday Inn &/or Premier Inn in the Castle Marina area.

However, all is not lost if you are prepared to travel a little or come down in quality.

A quick search this afternoon showed me that the Travelodge Riverside can be had for c.£140 from Thursday 28th March to 2nd April. Roughly £26 per night.

Individual days may be higher than that depending on your requirements.

After that then I"m afraid a little travel will be required but a little combining of taxis / helpful lifts might alleviate some of the extra travel costs.

A couple of real bargains at the moment I found on Trivago / LateRooms (http://www.laterooms.com/en/p3623/k16298850_nottingham-hotels.aspx?LonLat=&hidfl=&k=Nottingham&d=20130328&n=5&rt-adult=2&rt-child=0&rt=2-0¤cies=GBP#oguvcz) are:

Holiday Inn Derby-Nottingham M1 Jct25 - £33 - £40 per night
Novotel Nottingham East Midlands - £31 - £35 per night

Both are very close to one another (basically opposite sides of Jct 25) about 8 miles from DTD (say 15 min driving).

Admittedly, I queried for the whole 5 days but I"m fairly sure that those daily prices will be fairly consistent.

The basic events, WCOAP Team & WCOAP ME aren"t likely (I think) to change dates so you might want to snap up those days to ensure the price.

The WCOAP Side Events "might" move and so some flexibility about switching hotels or additional bookings might be advisable.

As always, book at your own risk until a formal announcement is made.

Good one...worth bearing in mind.

All depends on the actual schedule. I wanna play some side events so Monday might be one extra night for me.

Just booked via Laterooms..

Thursday 28th four nights at Gateway Hotel.

Double room breakfast included free on site parking and free WIFi. 15% discount if you book for two or more nights

£201.45

Probably not the cheapest but only 3 miles drive from DTD and will be driving so saves on cab fees.

Holiday Inn &/or Novotel at M1 Jcn 25 are still both on offer at around £35/£40 a night last time I looked. A couple of miles more but I just thought I"d mention it

I"ve spoken to a couple of people who do not speak highly of this one. Just sayin".

YMMV.

Booked up here, used many times for DTD trips and never had a problem. Saver rate price is top value and as previously mentioned by Paulie D, very close to DTD.
4 Nights, Thurs to Sun for £113, will struggle to find better than this for the weekend folks :)

Sorry I meant HI Derby is perfectly adequate, plus they definitely have good wheelchair access and parking out front is almost on the doorstep (doorslope?). Obviously I"ve no clue how good the rooms will be for you but would expect HI to be properly equipped. I"m sure Emma will be OK with it.

Assuming you"ve picked this one:

Just a word of warning about booking on the Travelodge website.

I checked 28th - 2nd for a double room and was offered £161.

Checked 29th - 2nd (same basis) and was offered £113...but Thursday can be had for £29 (as a single day added on to the SAME booking) making a total of £142.

£4 a day different.

Not so much then or I would have snapped it up when I had the chance. :(
