Title: Scottish Amatuer Numbers
Post by: billyho10 on April 17, 2008, 13:45:34 PM
Was just wondering how many seats there was for this event? There are 42 names on the direct buy ins list. Obvioulsy there are the regional/online qualifiers to be added to that, but the Maybury can hold at least 150. just wondering! :)

Cheers
Billyho
"Team FNP"

There are 130 seats in total, just as there was last year.  The Maybury have confirmed that as their capacity for this event.  We could have filled the event several times over.

The re buy on the friday is £10.You only get 500 chips and re buys are for 2 hours i think. Its very loose and not my cup of tea, saying that there should be good numbers with the apat event the next day and a good prize pool.

Wow thats poor amount of chips.. I just cant believe that anybody would want to play that except for players who like a big of bingo..  :o

You"ll find a fair few of the regulars play "all-in blind" for the entire rebuy period too.  Not fun!

I just dont undertsand how that can be fun poker @ £10 a shot.. I was lucky locally there was a £5 re-buy which meant you could easily afford £30 and have 6 buy ins, but how can anyone learn or play poker when its like that..

Thank god for APAT leading the way. Virgin"s tournament on the weekend was exactly the same minus the 150/300 level and u know what, it was fine, but its the way people want to play..

Virgin for next APAT sponsors IMO..  ;)

Just a different game with adjustment required. Treat a £10 rebuy the same as £100 f/o in bank roll terms. There was a good thread on rebuys on this forum a while back, explaining that you can get some good deep stack play after the addon break and that in some ways the skill required to TID is higher due to a bigger range of stacks you get compared to a freezeout

I personally dont like rebuys, but that is because i cant afford them

And that"s where the argument falls down about skill - a lot of them end up not being about who"s the best, but who has the deepest pockets and who gets lucky.

Once you get to the freezeout stage, if you have got lucky in the rebuy stage, you can use superior skill to win.

But you shouldn"t have to rely on getting an hour (or however long the rebuy period is) of luck before you can start playing properly. As the skill only comes in to play when you reach the freezeout stage - how can this not always be worse than a tournament which is a freezeout all the way through?

You may have guessed - I don"t like the whole concept of rebuy tournaments.

If maniacs want to shove in with anything and juice up the prize pool for an hour thats fine by me

It is fine if you dont get sucked out on.. but if you do 3 / 4 times and your pockets aint that deep then its goodnight for you..

Works both ways though - you sit and wait for a premium hand in the knowledge that you"re guaranteed action, but then your all in open raise with AA gets six callers!!

Cheap rebuys are just a freak version of poker, but they certainly don"t represent poker in the purest sense!  I prefer double chance freezouts, and steer clear of rebuys.

This is true, double chance freezeouts and limited rebuy, rebuys  represent a different type of skill set, but I think unlimited rebuy tournaments should be left to the poker tourists and the gamblers.

i was just wondering how many seats are still available, if any, for the Scottish Amatuer Poker Championship in Edinburgh on May 3rd and if i would be eligible to play in the tournament having missed the regional qualifiers for the event? If so, how i would go about buying a ticket for the event? i know it is £75.00 for the ticket, but who would i pay or am i too late?

I"m deeply offended by your statemant Duke.My game is cultured, well thought through and mathematically sound.

For at least the first 10 minutes. Then i throw the chips in and hope to get lucky. ;)

How can you wait for a premium hand with only 500chips to start with?

I"ll be up there on the Friday night, but if that is seriously the tourney I wont be playing.

Any apat"er fancy meeting up for a few sng"s amongst ourselves in a hotel or something I"m up for that.

What sort of cash games are usually offered at the casino (I am assuming that I"m not going to run well in the main event ;D)?

Also, who"s going to be around on Sunday evening?

Last year I got suckered into a 6 card Omaha cash game -- still emotionally scarred -- lol

Unfortunately travelling back with the trophy on Sunday  ;D ;D ;D

We"ll have to see what"s available.  If there isn"t a decent tournament there are always cash games.
