Title: APAT in Prague - Planning & Rumour thread :)
Post by: SirPercival on June 18, 2013, 13:29:08 PM
Is the Prague event to be at the Andel"s Hotel & Card Casino? The intro says APAT will open the festival so I"m just adding 2+2.

Don"t think I will be spending €99 a night for a five night haul.. But I have scoured hotels near to the venue and seen offers of €200 for five nights  ;)
That"s of course if it is to be held at the Andels card room.. ( yeah ok I googled Prague poker festival last night)..

Found that site the day of the announcement.

Do you think I"m not on this already? I"m disappointed by your lack of faith. :)

Assuming that the event is to be held at the venue indicated (which has yet to be confirmed), it is NOT the Andel"s hotel which is hosting the event...it"s merely the designated hotel.

There are a plethora of hotels and other options around (and including) the actual venue....take it from me...I"m on it.

As soon as Des gives the word, I"ll leap waddle into action.

Oh, and there are two events of two days each...not a four day event. I expect most of us (well me & Ger) will be there Friday/Saturday/Sunday nights.

If Prague Poker Festival is at card casino Prague then hotel akcent is next door and is  cheaper than andel and reasonable - stayed there in May.
Last couple of years majority of festival has been at kings casino at corinthia hotel...

There are at least 3 different hotels in the area which include the name "Andel" so one should be careful about jumping the gun for APAT in Prague.

When the venue is announced I will be putting up Travel Tips and include a map of the area with various hotel options indicated.

Just checked with the site I booked with for 5 to 8 dec double room with breakfast £45/night

Care to share the site?..I might not have that one. :)

For the record, I didn"t "jump the gun" I asked a question. Nor did I start a "rumour" as the new thread title implies.

Hi Paulie, i am aware that there are various hotels with the name Andel in it. however i did compare the address on my reservation for next month to that of the andel recommended on the prague poker web site and i am happy to confirm there is a definite match  ;D both this morning and when i double checked now.
on booking.com the prices are about 99 a night.
on clever hotels.com it works out fri- monday £45/night +£1 booking fee (£136) bed and breakfast.
having said that as you mentioned in Prague it is possible to get cheaper depending on your wants and needs.
i will be wiser next monthafter our stay

Stuart,  I wasn"t suggesting that anyone had jumped anything. It was just a generic warning that nothing is confirmed as yet and that booking anything before it has been is unwise.

As for the thread title, I was trying to be humorous and indicate that, again, nothing is confirmed.

Carl...you do..erm...obvious humour.

The experts amongst us,,and I"ll include Stuart here (as a gesture of goodwill) are a little more subtle about it.

:) In case anyone missed it.

OK, having Carl claiming to do humour means we really have gone off topic so..........

Flights?

Given that the date is fixed (Is it?) what options have people considered for flights?

Bear in mind some will need to be there to play on Thursday (for the team event) and I guess they would then want to stay through to the Sunday.

A lot of return flights I"ve looked at are Sunday (which isn"t an issue for me as I will probably bust in Day 1) but what time is it likely to finish, how long will it take to get back to Airport, allowing time for check-in etc what would be a sensible flight time?
Title: Re: APAT in Prague (Rumour thread)
Post by: Paulie_D on June 19, 2013, 15:17:44 PM
My basic plan would be to fly out Friday and return Monday morning-ish as there will only be a minority ( I would assume) who would be selected for the Team event (although it would be nice) AND are willing to attend unless there"s an exceptional package on offer.

Flights.

Obviously I"m spoiled for choice by living in/around London so it will be down to what your airline could offer.

Something to bear in mind (making an assumption)...I always plan to make Day 2 and if this is a standard APAT event this could be quite late...if one final tables.

Airports / Airlines

Airport Transfer Time

I **think** it"s about a 30 minute trip.

A little information (http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Travel-g274707-s304/Prague:Czech-Republic:Taxis.And.Rental.Cars.html) that i found (via Google)

From elsewhere...

Quote

The airport has two terminals (Terminals 1 and 2), so be sure to note the terminal that concerns your flight. Travel time from the city center to the airport is generally 20- 30 minutes at night and can take between 45 - 60 minutes during peak traffic periods.

Good to know...I"ve not heard of that site before and I"ve also noticed some large discrepancies between "official" pricing on the larger sites and significantly cheaper prices on lesser known sites.

If you Day 2 (and I think you are underestimating yourself)...you might have problems.

Allow say 2 hours for taxi & check-in etc. then you"re looking at a 5.30 hotel departure and perhaps only 3 hours of play.

Of course, if you are limited as to actual flight days/times then a serious think might be in order.

A bed (or at least a floor) for Sunday night would not be an issue.

Stuart...I know it"s going to be hassle but if you are bound and determined ( I know I am) then you might have to consider adding an extra stop....probably in London.

Here"s a search for Friday - Monday

Whats the costs looking like for that Paulie? I"m in the same boat as Stuart here.

I can see a £219 return from Teesside, via Amsterdam to Prague. Going out Thursday night. Day in Prague with the missus Friday. Saturday / Sunday poker and beer. Fly back early morning and back into Teesside for 10:50am Monday to start work. Looking like a winner unless costs are much better from down south x

The last (and only) time I"ve been to Prague was courtesy of winning a weekend and tournament there via LPPL.

The RyanAir flight landed in a different country!

Have to say, though, that the connecting coaches from Bratislava were very comfortable and were waiting right outside the terminal door.

Probably best I would say *lol* Why would you leave Manchester just to come back.

You can pick any return flight though, they are around 60 quid, it would certainly cost you less than £100 for the return flight. I want to fly from Cardiff or Bristol, the flight times are horrible though, I may need to fly out from Manchester or Gatwick then fly back into Bristol. The problem with Gatwick is getting there and back costs more than the flight.

Taken a punt on this and if the event does not take place, I can think of worse places to be 3 weeks before xmas.

I am on the 715 from Stansted with easyjet arriving 10.05 Friday 6th December return 10.40 on the Monday, cost £103

Staying at Red & Blue Design hotel, thanks to a special offer with avios, £169 for triple room for 3 nights with brekkie so circa £160 per head for the total journey for myself Paul Gildea, & Lee Wyatt.

Checked out the public transport and a 72 hour pass is about £11 or a cab from airport to centre £18.

See you in one of the many bars for a .5 litre or two.
