Paulie"s Notes.

Search as I might I can"t find any real "budget" options for Saturday night. Obviously, this is the August Bank Holiday weekend and Nottingham is a very popular destination.

Staying Fri/Sat/Sun without moving about is still going to run something in the order of £150 for the 3 nights.

If you are willing to switch hotels or, perhaps stay a little further out you might be able to save a few quid but I suspect that taxi charges night eat up any difference.

Just a word to the wise.

Hotels are filling up quickly.

I"ve missed out on a deal by not committing this far out and I"m supposed to be the frakkin" Travel Guru.

Nottingham is incredibly popular for the the August BH and prices are quite high and availability is dropping rapidly.

Prices are, from what I have seen at least £60 a night but there are possibilities of some savings if you are prepared to take on the hassle of moving about.

If you can, I would commit now.

xx oo

Paulie

Novotel East Midlands, 8 miles away but shouldn"t be too bad by car, has a deal making it £101 for Fri, Sat and Sun night. Double plus sofa bed.

I booked a twin room at the city centre Premier Inn on Goldsmith Street a couple of weeks ago. Three nights (Fri/Sat/Sun), for £125, I thought £21 per person per night was just about as good as it was gonna get.

Hey, you"re the Travel Guru...what did you do?

Well, like I said, I did miss out on a deal with Premier Inn - London Road (see below) due to faffing around what with one thing and another.

Due to this I plumped (heh!) for the HI - Castle Marina for Friday & Saturday nights (£64.50pn) as was only a couple of quid either way between that or the PI....plus I get points and free upgrades.

Sunday, I"m at the Premier Inn - London Road (Arena) for a mere £35. Why, well why not...and it"s close to Hooters.

Just saying.

Not the cheapest of trips but, as I said, I missed being the early worm because I didn"t commit early enough.

Limited parking available, £10 per car,£15 per van or 25 per coach overnight. Alternative multi story parking on Talbot St.

I always leave my car at DTD for the duration, never had any problems. Unless it"s absolutely chucking it down we walk along the canal to DTD (half an hour stroll from the city centre), and taxi back to the hotel. Hate paying for parking.

How"s this for odd:

Travelodge Riverside: Three nights, £181; four nights, £179. Hmm.

I was about to book the four nights but had a look at Hylands and it looked nice, included breakfast and was £40 a night. Also, it looks like it might be walkable (just).

Job done.

The De Vere is on the University campus and very modern, pool, gym.
Wifi is incredible.
3.1 miles from DTD.
Booked long time ago, double room for £39/nt.

Anyone who is travelling by train needs to be aware of major engineering works at Nottingham station with many rail services being replaced by buses.

Just as an addendum - anyone who is being told to change at Derby for bus to Nottingham and doesnt like buses - you can get a train to Beeston and get a much shorter bus from there.
