Getting There

Prague is a popular destination for UK visitors and is well served by a number of airlines.

The airport is 20 / 30 minutes from the casino (and surrounding hotels). I understand that public transport systems are well developed and easy to use.

Pretty much all my sources have mentioned that Prague taxis are notorious of long-hauling and/or finding other methods of extracting the Crowns.

For myself, I think a pre-booked taxi or shuttle is the best option. Consequently, I think I will be giving these people a spin (http://www.prague-airport-shuttle.cz/) and the cost looks decent and improves if sharing can be arranged but see comment regarding Akcent hotel shuttle.

A Bed For The Night

The official hotel of the Prague Poker Festival (which the APAT ECOAP is leading off) is The Andel"s Hotel (http://www.praguepokerfestival.com/#tab-Hotel). There is more than one hotel in the area which includes the term "Andel" so please check carefully before booking.

There are cheaper &/or closer options available for hotels though and I have indicated these on the GMap above. More than a few APAT players will be at the Akcent Hotel (http://www.laterooms.com/en/p3623/hotel-reservations/152361_akcent-hotel-prague-5.aspx) which is in the 7th floor (and up) of the venue itself....not only that but it"s in the area of only £40 per night including a typical european breakfast. No fry-ups here.

I see that the AKcent also offers a Shuttle service so it may be worth making enquiries direct (http://www.akcent-hotel.cz/en/).

I could list others but I"ve never been to Prague so please do your due diligence and check your own sources (Tripadvisor for one). Just remember that it"s probably going to be brass monkey weather with piles of snow so proximity to the venue is probably a plus.

All of the hotels shown on the GMap are within a 10 minute walk.

Any other questions, please ask and I"ll see what I can find out.

Paulie

i was checking out hotels etc in the area and just a warning to would be travelers that andels apartmento is cheap and is not in any way involved with andels hotel,  also from the reviews it is a hellhole unlike andels hotel which gotb good reviews

Looks competitive for a dedicated car.

I think the Taxi firm I linked is in that region for the same service.

If players attending could post their flight info I can maintain a list to see what sharing/link-up arrangements could be made.

Paulie/anyone!!..

Need some assistance if possible  :).. I require a taxi from airport to Akcent, and then the return on Monday..

Have contacted the above service regarding a wheelchair accessible cab aswell as another company, and it seems that they can only transport if I sit in cab and they fold chair up and shove it in boot..

Have scoured the web but have been unable to find a company that have cabs that we use here where they "wheel" you in and strap you down lol..

Failing every thing do you think if I bring a tow rope they can tow me back and forth?

Carl.

You might try contacting these people to enquire:

http://www.prague-airport-shuttle.cz/

On a different site:

http://www.prague-airport-transfers.org/special-request-transfer.htm

They make this statement

Quote

Note: When disabled passenger can not leave the wheelchair, put note when making booking. In most case there"s no surcharge for special requests but in some situation when disabled passenger can"t use ordinary car there might be surcharge as we have to use special vehicle (this vehicle is subject to availability). We will let you know price before your booking is confirmed!

Thanks Paulie i emailed them last week, and basically said i needed to be able to transfer from chair to car.. Im thinking they offer "help" e.g. A lift from chair into car seat..

I will scour some more, im sure there are means in this day and age .

Just a couple tips on the Taxi in Prague you can get a mini bus from the airport but you must get a ticket from inside the airport terminal and don"t go outside and just ask the drivers or the will charge you 3 times as much and don"t just turn up and get a taxi they are a rip off as well, And when in Prague if your getting a taxi always agree a price 1st or they will just charge you what they want

Oh sorry did not know you had been there before and had covered the bit about the how people wanting a shuttle bus if traveling alone need to get a ticket from inside the Airport terminal and not just go up to a shuttle bus and ask the driver or that you had covered the bit about when people are in Prague that they SHOULD ALWAYS AGREE A FEE before getting in a taxi, I thought you had just told people what you was doing. ps I will let you tell them who owns the local taxi and what they will do to people who don"t pay up as you have it all covered  :-*

Tried using the link I provide for Airport shuttle which worked but totally borked when it came to payment.

I tried in two different browsers and it just fell over both times.

So....trying with the hotel via email now.

This is the advance party reporting.

I arrived in Prague about an hour ago. I enquired at a couple of travel desks and the tourist information about getting into the town centre. People from this part of the world are sometimes perceived as rude when we judge them based on our normal experiences in our culture. We need to accept that not everyone approaches things the same way and theirs is just a different approach to ours. Having spent the last hour here, I have come to the conclusion that the reason they come across as rude to us is because they are a downright surly rude lot. I have spoken with half a dozen people and every one has been unpleasant. None of them have smiled, and every one of them has been curt at best, and slightly aggressive in a couple of cases. And these are the ones on the help-desks at the airport, who have had whatever passes for customer service training around here. The woman in tourist information was the scariest of the lot.

PMSL this made Emma and me chuckle a lot!! VERY RUDE our receptionist was the rudest person I have ever met, TT was even scared!!

I"m coming to play in the 888 event which is also part of the festival that weekend.  I booked a shuttle from the airport for about a tenner which I didn"t have to prepay so I hope it turns up.  Thanks for the warning about the surly welcome!  Although looking at how many poker players there will be I don"t expect to be surrounded by locals.  Good luck to us all.
