My bet is winner: Ger Smyth
Never took Rodders as a junkie!
-
Over/under on how many times Ger gets asked "are you out?" Every time he goes for a ciggy? I will set the line at 73.

Good luck you guys .... usual suspect chip counts throughout the day please.
I would usually ask for a beer count too but ffs this is Dublin .... just quadruple Portugal"s daily intake ;)

Never took Rodders as a junkie!
I think this is a great prediction in this specific tournament. Club is dry and Ger is not able to get drunk during breaks. Ger is actually good when he is playing sober and it is in Ireland his home event so he will actually be trying.
I stand by this call.
-
Over/under on how many times Ger gets asked "are you out?" Every time he goes for a ciggy? I will set the line at 73.
How many times will Ger go to Larry Murphy"s on day one whilst still in? I am going to say 5

I"ve a feeling Ger will mostly be missing from about 5pm, regardless of how many chips he has. Cork (my team) vs Clare (his team) in the All Ireland Hurling Final (replay) today - kick off at 5pm. God help ye if his team happens to win and he still has chips after it! :D

Here i am!!
Chaos in Dublin city centre meant whilst the tournament gt underway at 14:30, a few dealers were stuck in traffic - so your intrepid reporter took to the tables in a dealer capacity to help out for the first 2 levels to ensure we got underway smoothly and no self dealing shizzle!!
Due to the Winamax event at the Regency oversubscribing, we"ve had an unexpected influx of players, primarily French, as youd expect, so we are currently at 76 entrants, with a level and the first break available for players to late reg.
So just under 6k in the prizepot - ill now endeavour to get the names of the runners and riders and get some pics up!

Please forgive the slowness of the reporting at the moment -as usual the Wifi at these places isnt the greatest!!
Anyway, 6 players down so far - Kevin O"Hanlon amongst them. He seemed a little bemused as to what had happened, telling me quickly his exit hand - which i think was him running into a flopped flush - before saying he must rush to get the bus - only to take the fire exit out of the room rather than the main exit - a few seconds later he appeared back in, sheepishly saying "oops, wrong door" - and off he went.
Few minutes before the end of L3 where ill be able to get a few chip counts.

Frank Bailie 18k

15 minutes left to the end of L5 - the cardroom pausing here for the dinner break as they have kindly prepared a hot and cold buffet for all players - which looks amazing and more than a few players are already distracted by the plates of curry, rice and fresh bread and meats with a fine selection of cakes!!!

Ger Smyth down - low stacked at the break, shoved with KQ - ran into TT which held.

Seems like an interesting tournament. Not only do you have Keith Joseph in the field, no doubt taking the opportunity to convert his table to monetarism, but you seem to have rediscovered Freddie "Parrotface" Davies as well.

play will continue to conclude when 27 players is reached.
Although numbers have been lower than anticipated, which has obviously we have reached this staged, as per the Player Briefing, quicker, after a communication and consulatation with the players, it was deemed preferable that this be kept intact and play resumes tomorrow with 27 remaining.
A full player list with remaining stacks will be taken at this point.

Play has tightened up considerably now we are down to 12 - the blinds are still only at 1k/2k/300 with an average stack of just over 95k - that early tournament aggression is now paying dividends as no one is truly low stacked.

Average stack has 40 BB"s and it"s 12 handed ?
You could be in for a long night ;)

Damien Bailie makes a big lay down on a 747 board to Andy Duncan - folding 88....

yes, strange the way its worked out - we got to 27 very quickly last night and then been a flurry of eliminations today, so the stacks are now way exceeding the levels.
May reduce it down to 25 min blinds..... ;)
-
The French players have zertainlee quietened down alot since this grind session started and ensued - they seem to much prefer the ships flying about the place than this dour struggle.
-
Jason Kemp raises UTG to 7k, Brian Kiely re raises to 14k, folded round to Jason, who folds.

Damien Bailie just gone - his AK running into the AA of Frank Piednoel
Damien out in 12 - 11 left.
-
Rachel Samuels out in 11th - chips go in against Sindijs Anspoks who shows AK - Rachel with KQ.
Flop is Q74 to Sindijs chagrin - but an Ace on the turn and a King on the river brighten him up and he has Rachel covered also - taking his stack to well over 200k
Now hand for hand for the FT

Don Roberts
-
two preflop limpers isnt enough to stop Hugh Cairnie from committing his stack - and all fold like limp lettuce leafs meaning he picks up a nice 18k ish uncontested
-
Best of luck to Shug,Don and Andy. Take it down lads. I had a great weekend and always a pleasure with the APAT gang.
-
Go on Shug and Don, both well overdue for another final so pleased they are there. Hope one of them takes it down glglglgl
-
Seb Kerrian raises to 10k from UTG+1 - all folded round to Andy Duncan who defends his BB.
Flop is T86
Andy checks, Seb bets 13k, Andy shoves for 39k, Seb calls.
Andy shows Q8 - Seb shows 77
Turn Q
River 6
Andy doubles up and is now over 100k
-
C"mon the heroes!
-
Don Roberts takes a nice pot off Sindijs Anspoks with a cleverly played 44.
Sindijs Anspoks - he"s not small really - he was just leaning forward!
-
Good luck Mr D ... Your time has come my man

Good luck Mr D ... Your time has come my man
the kiss of death from the nearly man himself!

Brian Kiely has been bleeding chips since the FT, but find a hand to raise with pre flop - he makes it 17k to go - gets two callers - Don Roberts and Sindijs Anspoks.
Flop is Jh 7h 2s - Brian fires 33k in - Don calls - Sindijs folds.
Turn is 10h - Brian checks - Don shoves - Brian looks disgusted but makes the call, flipping AA.
Don shows TT for the turned set.
River is a brick and Brian goes in 9th place - Don now assumes the chip lead.
Brian Kiely - 9th place finisher
-
a big chunk tho goes straight back to Sindijs from Don a very raggy board sees over 100k go in the middle, with Sindijs JJ seeing off Don"s 44.
-
not a good level for Don once he assumed the chip lead - hes bleeding chips profusely and the table seem to be picking on him - pressuring his bets both pre and post flop. He"s still in good shape overall, but could probably do with avoiding these marginal hands which look to be getting him into a spot of bother. He"s still smiling though - so its not all bad news!
-
Man Down!
Frank Piednoel raises pre flop, Shug shoves OTT for 33k extra - Frank makes the call with AT.
Shug shows KJ.
AT holds
Hugh Cairnie down

Hugh Cairnie - 8th place finisher
-
David Smith had been battling to keep his head above water - finding TT in mid position looked good for a shove - until that man Don Roberts woke up with AA in the BB!
David rueful as the board offers no help and he is down in 7th

great effort Shug well done mate
-
Nearly man ..... Cheeky sod
-
after that flurry of excitement, the game has again regressed into one of "those" stages - all players now being very cagey and careful with their plays - there is also a good contingent watching the FT which im sure only adds to the intensity.
Anyones guess as to who this will go to.
-
Nearly man ..... Cheeky sod
lol.....gotcha, ya handsome devil.
-
Andy Duncan gets a double through - shoves his button with T7 - gets called by the SB of Seb Kerrian who has AJ - but a 7 on the flop is good for Andy and he keeps himself well in the game. Gallic gall for Seb.
-
James Kemp has been picking his spots well to attack - and it proves so again as Don Roberts raises to 20k - Jason shoves and Don has to fold.
-

Nice one AJD !
Any chance of up to date chip counts please Mark ?
-
Action folded round to Don Roberts in the SB who completes to 8k - Seb Kerrian in the BB raises to 20k - Don calls.
Flop is Q23
Don bets 13k - Seb calls.
Turn is a 2 - both check
River a 5 - both check - Seb tables AT - Don tables J5 and rather sheepishly gathers the chips in.....
Bonnet de douche - or words to that effect - mutters Seb!
-

Break in 8 minutes - so will do an updated CC then :)

Down to 5....James Kemp had been picking his spots well - but when he shoves his SB, he is dismayed when Sindijs Anspoks snap calls and tables 88.....James with AT.
Board is no help at all and James down in 6th.
Sindijs now big chip leader.

Andy Duncan #forthewin
There will be celebrations in Priorslee tonight!
-
Unreal....i shift the laptop about an inch closer to the Final Table to save my little legs - and lose the connection almost never to get it back!!
In that time - sheer drama!
First we lose Frank Piednoel - who gets taken out by Andy Duncan
Then almost the next hand we lose Andy who has a cruel cooler of a hand - his AK running into AA of Seb Kerrian
Then a minute or so later we lose Don Roberts, who ran his KT into the A3 of Sindijs.
So we are now heads up between Seb Kerrian, who has a 764k stack and Sindijs Anspoks, on 370k
Just started heads up!
-
Seb wins the first big pot - rivering trip 5s to beat Sindijs top pair
-
Ill have to post all the accompanying pics later - the connection here as suddenly become as reliable as Matt Dale"s timekeeping!
-
Seb is dominating the heads up session using his chip lead well - controlled aggression and not giving Sindijs any room to move.
-
Wow unlucky Andy, great effort to Don and Shug also.
Thanks for doing the updates over the weekend Mark.
-
sorry guys - the connection became an exercise in futility trying to post anything - let alone anything of substance - so it was canned as a bad job!
Anyway, to complete matters, the Heads Up game became something of a procession - as last reported, Seb Kerrian, from the HTC Club in Normandy, France - could not miss a flop and quickly decimated the stack of Latvian player Sindijs Anspoks.
Sindijs did fight back a little, but it seemed a forlorn hope and it just seemed a matter of time before Seb would put him out of his misery.
When Sindijs shoved for the third consecutive time, Seb this time announced call, and tabled Ks 9s - behind - but not by much to Sindijs Ad 3c.
The flop was one both liked - A s 4s 2c - Seb invoking the used and abused "one time" plea from the poker Gods - Sindijs stoically watching proceedings, ready to accept his fate.
The turn was a brick - 7d - and only a spade would give Seb the win at the first time of asking.
The river brought the 2s - and we had our champion.
Was a fine display at the end, Sindijs very gracious in defeat and Seb could not be denied his win.
Also must mention great showings by Don Roberts (3rd) and Andy Duncan (4th) - im gutted they didnt get the coverage they deserved but they played some great poker and represented APAT superbly well. Well done guys.
Thank you to everyone who took part this weekend - wasnt the easiest of tournaments to handle, but it was nonetheless enjoyable and many thanks to Denise and her team at the Fitzwilliam for accomodating us and working closely alongside me to ensure the tournament ran as smooth as possible.
Pictures to follow to wrap things up.
Thanks again all :)

Congratz Seb. Ul Don and esp Andy - gutted for you mate. Tell me all about it at the next BCPC.
-
wp Andy....so near mate.
-
Well played to Andy and Don for going so deep, unlucky to Andy and Don for not winning
-
Thanks to all for your best wishes on here, text, fb etc. It"s really appreciated.
And to those that were still around town that made the effort to come and rail me, even for a brief period, thank you. I wasn"t able to say much to you guys at the time but it helped me a lot and kept me focused.
I wasn"t able to quite make it to the podium and so will have to put on hold the request to BRIAN YATES for a replica of his trophy cabinet. On the plus side I"m steaming towards a full house in Andy Duncan Live National Bingo. Having made a 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 9th there"s only four missing yay 8)
Congrats to Jason & Shug for making the FT and of course to Don the hammer for his deserved bronze. Unlucky not to go on to win it Don I thought you were looking nailed on for most of day 2.
It was a shame the French guy who won it had very little class and didn"t know how to win or lose hands very respectfully but hey ho I shook his hand when he busted me and wished him well.
Last but not least for me is to thank Brendan and Patricia for putting up with us us up for the weekend. Loved it immensely.
-
Just kinda echoing what Andy said really.
Congrats and unlucky - very very suprised the french guy won it as he was on the decendency for most of the FT that I was there for.
Guess from the commentary he hit a run of cards.
Enjoyed playing at the club and felt the staff looked after us very well for the 10 Euro reg fee!
Got to go and email Mark who for some reason spends 2 days calling me Jason only to report "James" for the exit when he has the player list in front of him.......... ;)
See you again in future.
-
Well played to Andy, Jason & Shug for making the final table, I think the turning point was when I called the winners pocket 5"s with aj and after the flop had a lot of outs that failed to hit, after that instead of being out, he went on to hit virtually every flop and take Andy out with aa v ak. So congratulations to Seb and commiserations to you Andy I really thought you would take away that elusive main event medal. Thanks to all the staff at the Fitz who I thought looked after us in tremendous fashion, and to Mark for updating in very trying circumstances. And finally thanks to all those who wished me well or railed me at some point, your support was much appreciated.
-
Well done boys great efforts and a real shame a Apater couldn"t get over the line. We were railing from afar promise ;)

Really proud of Andy"s performance this weekend and Jason, Shug and Don who all showed great class in the face of some pretty unsporting celebration displays by some others on the final table at times.
Great weekend with great banter in the pub and wonderful hospitality by our hosts. :-*
