Title: WCOAP 2014 - Travel & Accommodation
Post by: Paulie_D on January 06, 2014, 11:49:10 AM
TRAVEL TIPS MERGED

APAT will hold the sixth annual World Championship of Amateur Poker (WCOAP) at Aspers Casino in Stratford, London between April 15th and 21st, 2014.

The full schedule can be found above.

Casino Address:
Aspers Casino Westfield Stratford City
312 The Loft
Montfichet Road Olympic Park
London
E20 1ET

Transport:
Aspers have full details: Here (http://uk.westfield.com/stratfordcity/getting-here/)

I suspect the majority of APATers will be staying locally but for those who wish to drive the site mentions (http://uk.westfield.com/stratfordcity/getting-here/getting-there-car) that all visitors to the car park will pay a maximum rate of £5 for the day, from Monday to Friday and a maximum rate of £8 at the weekend.

Not great but not unreasonable.

Hotels:

It"s difficult to give entirely accurate pricing given the extensive schedule of events. Players may or may not wish to play in the Main Event or might just visit for some of the side events. As such, the prices quoted are rough estimates and players should make their own enquiries.

Roll Your Own

Without getting into too much detail their are numerous B&B type options basically along London Road (which is the main thoroughfare) which might offer cheap and cheerful alternatives to the standard chain hotels.

Of course, it"s impossible to go into any depth here but reasonable searches on TripAdvisor or any of the consolidator sites such as Laterooms, Hotels.co.uk, Trivago or one of my favorities, Booking.com might be worth a few minutes of your time.

Equally, if you are sharing accommodation you might consider chain hotels a little further out afield to save a few quid. Bear in mind though that transport in London after midnight can be hit and miss and cabs might eat into any potential savings.

Please note that I am not personally recommending or endorsing any of these. As always, if in any doubt, do your own research and check review sites such as TripAdvisor (http://www.tripadvisor.com/) or read the reviews on your chosen booking site.

This is a preliminary post

I"ll be adding additional links / resources as we get over the holidays. Please feel free to add your own recommendations, links, tips, hints and other pieces of sage advice.

Hope to see you there.

Hi guys thought anyone who is thinking of leaving their car in the  Westerfield car park for WCOAP may be interested in the following link..

https://expressparking.uk.westfield.com/default.aspx

Although its not a huge saving, just saves the hassle of paying at the machine on departure, and comes straight out of bank/card..

Takes a couple of weeks to come through so if you are thinking of taking advantage I would request ASAP  :)

There is a double room in N22 8JQ available for duration of APAT week as well as a garden room with sofa bed if anyone needs accommodation. £55 per night for room in house and £45 for garden room.

Nice shared house and owner will playing a lot of events, so they get a lift to Aspers most days as well!

I will be driving down from Banbury at 4.30pm (can"t get out of work any earlier) desperately trying to make the cash desk for 6.30pm for the Horse it"s going to be tight.

Do I take the M40 which would be my usual choice or would I be better off taking the M1, M25 for Stratford? Looking at the map the M40 route has be driving through London more than the M1,M25 option.

Thoughts please

Well, I don"t drive, but I do live just off the A40 in West London and I reckon you"ll be much better off doing M1/M25 cos it"s usually chocker round here at that time of day. Anyone who drives the M25 might have a different opinion.
