61 entries into the High Roller Event #3 here at the APAT Championships at Aspers mean a £12,200 prize-pool with the first break approaching.

Truth be told, the players are feeling each other out, with newest arrival Dan Edler among the last to sit down. With blinds just 100/200 and a 30k starting stack, with 30-minute blinds, everyone knows that there is plenty of play.

Initial Table Draw incoming

Clash between Samuel Lathem and Edijs Cergars - Samuel had shoved from UTG +1 and was snapped off by Edijs, who was next to act.....Samuel showing 55 but in a world of trouble against Edijs" KK.

Usually the poker gods dictate that a 5 arrives on the river, or the flop comes down 643, but this time Edijs brow was kept clear of sweat as a King immediately appeared on the board.....and overkill status was achieved when Quad Kings was hit on the river.

Nice hand Sir!

A delayed bet can win you much more value in poker, and Paul Collier just proved that fact after betting 3300 into an 8,000 pot on a full board of 5h Ad 5d Jd 6s. Having checked back the turn, he"d bought himself some weakness as an image and so it looked to his opponent, who coughed up.

Collier showed Kd 8d for the turned flush and raked back a nice pot.

Diamonds are forever!

When Peter Djordjevic and Henry Wride clash on Table 5, about 2k is already in the middle before the flop of  Kd 4c 3d arrives.

Peter bets 1000 to which Henry calls

Turn brings Qd - Peter fires another 2400 into the middle, Henry calls.

River is  Ad - Peter now checks and Henry after a little musing, slides 4500 forward. Peter doesnt look impressed and makes the call....sighing with emphasis as Henry tables two red Tens and mucks his cards without showing.

Henry takes a nice pot down and leaves Peter with a third of his starting stack

Table 4 action :

Daniel Edler raises to 900 from mid position - Paul Wimbledon calls from the button and Bernward Althof completes from the SB.

Flop is  8d Jh  8h

Bernward leads out for 2500, Daniel calls, Paul calls.

Turn is  7s

Both check

River is  9s

Bernward fires a very scientfic 7775 into the middle, Daniel passes, Paul calls.

Bernward shows  7d 7c - Paul shows the  7h and mucks his other.

Having run deep in Event #1 yesterday, Edjis Cergars is back on the bike and going nicely. His intent clear from the earlier hand described, he"s run up a stack of 85,600 that puts him well clear of the average, a paltry 38,125.

With blinds still at 300/600/100, his table-mates aren"t hanging about either, with three players committing their stacks pre-flop. Dwayne Stacey held A-A and that held against K-K and 3-3 on the 9s-2d-4s-Ah-7d board, trebling "Bane" up to around 70,000. Darren Wicker had the 3-3, but easily took the hit to his big stack, which remains around the 60,000 mark. Akshay Reddy is left with 34,000 after his kings got no help at all..

Just over a minute left before next break, when some of the higher chipstacks will be incoming...

Hero to Zero!

Jesper Gaardhoe returned from the break in pretty good shape - average stack (41k) and comfortable at his table.

However, as the first level after the restart ended, Jesper found himself wondering what to do for the rest of the night as 3 consecutive hands sent him spinning to the rail.

Hand 1 - Jesper raises 2.5x from mid position - Philip Marsh shoves OTT - Jesper folds

Hand 2 - Jesper raises 2.5x from mid position - Philip Marsh shoves OTT - Jesper calls.

Jesper : 77, Philip AJ

Board runs out 3AT54 and Philip doubles his 26k through Jesper

Hand 3 - Paul Collier raises to 2300, Jesper goes all in for his remaining 9k, Dan Dennehy reshoves for 21k, Paul folds.

Jesper : KQ, Dan AJ.

Board runs out dry 35392 and Jesper is gone before the deuce hits the felt.

Rude.

Hero to Hero?

BCPC player Dale Macchiarelli is well known to be a young player with an exciting future - not quite sure at what yet, but certainly when at the poker table, there is rarely a dull moment.

So it proved again as Dale tangled with the pre flop raise to 2200 of Liam Crawford - Dale calling from the SB and the flop shows  7d 2d 5s - Liam bets 3500, Dale raises to 7500, Liam goes all in, Dale calling without malice or aforethought.

Dale shows  Qd 8d - Liam showing  Kc Ks

Turn  Ah, River  2h and after a count, Dale has Liam covered by 3100 chips....prompting cries of anguish from "The Kid".

So next hand, after Darren Wickers raises to 2200, Dale chucks his remaining count into the middle, giving his cards a cursory glance - but getting a call from the SB, BB and of course Darren completes.

The board runs out  10h 2s 9s 2c 4s with every street being checked around. Dale announces he has chances, flipping his  Qd 10s like a pancake on Shrove Tuesday.

The other three look mildly disgusted as they fold one by one, and Dale gets a playable stack back after quadrupling up!

Dan Dennehy was flirting with elimination but finds a double through - his A8 seeing off 66

Double through takes Dan to around 24k

The Dan Dennehy saga continues......

next hand after the initial double up, Dan finds AA and gets another 18k to his stack to take him over 40k...

alas it didnt last long...as Dan runs into Dann (Williams) who had raised to 3400, Dan three bets to 7800, Dann makes the call.

Flop is 772.

Dann checks, Dan bets 10100, Dann calls.

Turn is 5 - Dann checks, Dan "jams in his face" for his remaining 24000....Dann calls and nonchalantly flips A7....Dan shows his TT, the river is a brick, and Dan goes down the river with it.

Steve "Scouse" Bayliff is very well known to APAT members - and he is making his mark in his own inimitable way in the High Roller.

After losing a AK v TT flip to take him down to 45k, Scouse went on the offensive, shoving first over the top of Longbo Mi"s raise and getting it through, then doing the same very next hand when Bruce Salmon deigned to raise.

Scouse grinning as he turned to me pronouncing " you liking the Scouse power poker eh mate"........

Wouldnt surprise me at all to see him take this down.

Fellow APATers Dann Williams and Dwayne Stacey still going nicely as well as we get down to 19 players left

Scouse Bayliff and Longbo Mi clash again.....a flurry of activity pre flop between the two gets the chips all in...Longbo Mi tabling KK....Scouse rather shame faced tabling A8....."i thought he was at it" he mutters in that broad accent.....

Still, it didnt matter as an Ace appears straight off the wood and although a Q and a J appear also, Longbo cant find that arrow to pierce Steve"s armour and he doubles through again - now on around 160k.

Just reached the Final Table of the High Roller - 10th place finisher and cash bubbler was Samuel Latham - he shoved his A7 into the AJ of Daniel Sharpe - hitting the 7 on the flop, but 2, then 3 diamonds appeared on the turn. Samuel held the Ace of Diamonds.....and it duly hit on the river. Pretty sick way to exit the competition - Samuel getting the Sharpe end of Daniel"s luck.

So the Table Draw, Final Tablists and Chip Count is :

S1 - Nuno Duarte - 186,000
S2 - Steve Bayliff - 87,000
S3 - William Langton - 95,000
S4 - Ruslanas Rudycenas - 112,000
S5 - Henry Wride - 325,000
S6 - Liam Crawford - 118,000
S7 - David Charalambous - 247,000
S8 - Bruce Salmon - 365,000
S9 - Daniel Sharpe - 294,000

Blinds will be 5k/10k/1k for another few minutes before increasing

Payout structure is :

1 £3670 + Gold Medal + Champions Bracelet
2 £2560 + Silver Medal
3 £1645 + Bronze Medal
4 £1220
5 £915
6 £730
7 £610
8 £485
9 £365

Liam Crawford shoves all in, David C asks for a count but passes.

Next hand Scouse shoves and William Langton reshoves. ak v k8 Scouse in bad shape.

But the man can run good as the board runs out J7695. William has Scouse covered by 3k only. Sickness

David Charalambous had lost a few flips and got low stacked - when he shoves his button with T9, Nuno wakes up in the BB with 66 and makes the call.

The board is not good for David, running out K5K7J and he departs in 5th place

Next hand, Steve Bayliff and Liam Crawford clash - Steve announcing all in and Liam also committing his stack which is less that Steve"s but still well over 200k

Liam shows A9, Steve QJd

Steve takes the lead on the flop with a Jack, but the warning signs flash with a 9 on the turn - however this also gives Steve a flush draw of diamonds.

The river is a black Ace, and Liam hits his two pair to stay in.

Scouse struggles to calm down after that Mersey.

Next hand we lose Steve - he shoves with K5 and is called by Liam Crawford who shows QT.

3Q9JJ is the board and Steve departs in 4th but a great and entertaining performance from Scouse - hope we see him at the APAT tables again soon.

Liam Crawford eliminated in third place - his shove when low stack of the three with 98 was called by the A3 of Bruce Salmon, with the board running out QQ563.

Great showing by Liam - definitely a player to follow for the future

Bruce is having the better of the early exchanges - pressuring Nuno"s post flop activity with hefty raises, which Nuno is having trouble countering

Momentum shift as a cooler hits Bruce!

With the board showing 76K85, chips went flying in and eventually we were at showdown with Nuno at risk.

Bruce tables 43 for the straight - but Nuno has got 96 for the thick end of the straight!

Huge pot - this takes Nuno well into the chip lead and Bruce less than 300k

Nuno raises and Bruce announces all in.....for what is left, Nuno has to call, but only has 82. Bruce in good shape with A9.

Board runs 5TTTJ and Bruce doubles thru

When Nuno raises Bruce"s BB to 90k, Bruce announces all in and Nuno insta calls.

Nuno 77, Bruce AJ

No help on the flop - in fact it benefits Nuno as 368 is followed by a 9 on the turn. Bruce needing an Ace or a Jack on the river to stay alive...........but no.....a lady appears and Nuno Duarte wins.....a real Portuguese Man o War!!!!

A great event, fantastic performance from Bruce Salmon:

but a great victory for Nuno Duarte, our WCOAP 2014 #3 High Roller Open Champion:
