Title: Another WSOP bracelet for the UK?
Post by: Roscopiko on June 04, 2008, 10:32:42 AM
Following Ram"s success last year we are on the verge of another WSOP coming to the UK.  Londons James Akenhead has just gone heads up in event 2 with a 2:1 chip deficit.

GL....bring it home

No bracelet for the Uk from James Akenhead just one hell of a bad beat story.

Akenhead set the trap from previous hands then (courtesy of pokernews)

"Grant Hinkle has the button in Seat 10. He raises to 350,000. Akenhead tries to pop it up again, this time by raising to 1.2 million. Hinkle moves all in and Akenhead quickly calls. Here it is! The moment we"ve been waiting for over the last two hours.

Akenhead is the one who is all in. The hands are opened:

Hinkle:  td 4d
Akenhead: ah kc

Wow, a stone bluff from Hinkle and now he"s in very rough shape. The shouting has begun from the gallery, who have all suddenly found that last reserve of energy to remain on their feet. Side bets are being made on what the flop will contain. Here it comes...

th 4h ts

Oh. My. God.

Akenhead is dead to running cards. The crowd is absolutely floored. Akenhead cannot believe his misfortune. He knows he"s on thin ice. And just to add insult to injury... tc

Hinkle makes quad tens. Akenhead is drawing dead. The meaningless river completes the hand. Akenhead is eliminated in second place and collects $520,219."

Ouuuuuuuuuuuuuuucchhhh

De Wolfe has FT"d event 4 tho so fingers crossed for him.

Didn"t Doyle Brunson, flop a full house when holding 10 2, to win the world series?
Title: Re: Another WSOP bracelet for the UK?
Post by: Swinebag on June 04, 2008, 17:07:56 PM
he made full houses with 10 2 to win both his WSOP main events. But dont think either were flopped and certainly not all-in pre-flop

Although the circumstances are dramatic I would in no way describe this as "One hell of a bad beat story" -  td 4d is about 34% against  ah kc no?

I agree, never a bad beat story in a million years.

I dont know the correct probs but you are correct; It not really a bad beat story.

I make it 37.1% against and true hes not a massive favourite here.

But if I"m losing 300k and a WSOP title on this hand I"m still dining out on it for many years to come.

What is the official definition of a bad beat by the way? Any suggestions?

I was going to ask this question, but you got there before me.

I play with one particular player who"s always claiming bad beats and he just makes me laugh. For example, he"s holding AA in mid position, calls the BB and the action moves on. Two further callers and it comes to me in the BB. I look down at 46o and I check.

Flop comes 75K and I bet out - 2 callers, including Mr AA.

Turn comes a 3 and I bet again - he goes all in, I call and he claims a bad beat.

I"d have to ask "Bad beat or bad play?" in most situations - Obviously this question doesn"t arise for the situation described earlier in this thread.

Its got to based on the % chance of winning when the majority of the chips go in surely. But whats the cut off 80% ish is fairly sickening in my book but probably not worthy of a new mouse/monitor/laptop unless its for a hefty chunk of cash.

It cant be much higher or we are never going to be able to complain about anything  ;)

I only count live bad beats these days, cos you get so many online. So here is what I consider a bad beat although that said it fails your 80% criteria. Sitting in $1m gtd $2500 entry APT Event in Manila. Blinds are 150/300 with 25 ante. I"ve been card dead for a while and have a tight, yes I said tight, table image. Guy limps in early position, which normally would have alarm bells ringing, but this guy has been doing this with weak Aces and was doing it the day before playing cash too. If he has anything better than A 10 in any position he is raising. one caller, and I look down at J J on button. I raise it up to 1500, he is the sole caller.

Flop comes 4 5 7  Rainbow

He checks and I push all in for 5500, with a pot of 4k  out there I"m happy to take there and then, but also happy if he call cos I know I am miles in front. He thinks for ages and eventually says "I have 6 outs Gordon, I"m going to call", he makes the call and shows A 8 offsuit.

Turn Q

River 6 to hit his inside straight draw, which was one of his 7 outs (he didn"t even have that right.  ::))

Live Poker is Soooooo Rigged.  ::)

I"m willing to give that one Gordon but the others seem a bit harsher than me.

At least he"s given you some solid justification for his call  ???

You can only get them in good!
