There"s a nice early queue for the PLO side event which bodes well for a decent turnout.

Congratulations to JP Round for cashing in yet another APAT Side Event yesterday...he"s on a bit of a tear on those this season.

Best of luck to all remaining players, but I gotta root for my own charges in Dave Scothern & Zac Crosland, perfectly placed in the middle of the pack! Good luck fellas,  run good & give it to them LBPN style!

Also best of luck to one time LBPNer Craig Dawson, he"s on a heater at the min & I wouldn"t be surprised to see him at the top of the pile once the dust has settled!

We"ve just lost our first player.

Peter Cooke shoved his 10k stack at 800/1600 with A8 and was called by TT.

No help from the flop and we"re down to 29.

At 27 we"ll move the APAT Update HQ from the APAT Chill-out Lounge to the casino floor to be closer to the action.

The sacrifices we make for you.  8)

We"ve just lost Leon Manners.

Unfortunately, I was watching a hand develop on another table that ultimately fizzled and missed the exit hand.

Steve Roderick just gone in a 70k pot.

Missed his flush draw with  Kh 8h on a  Jh Qd Jc 7h board against  Ks Qs when the board ended with a  7s

They"re just breaking the tables down to 3 and there will be a short hiatus while we move down to the floor.

Ken McBride down to a chip and a chair when his Aces were cracked by Ryan Pearson flopping the joint with AK on a Qh 10h Js  flop

Turn of  Jh gave Ken a few more outs but the river  Qd gave no relief.

Two more exits Mike Wilson loses with AJ on a J high board against 88 to a rivered 8.

Ouch.

Ken McBride also out.

More news on Ken"s crippler.

Ken 4 bet for 78k AI to a 12k 3 bet and Ryan called off for his entire stack...gutsy move

re. Dave Scothern.

Can"t find him...

I don"t know his face so it"s possible he"s here and hiding his player slip.

We"re due a break in 30 minutes and I"ll double check.

I missed his exit if, in fact, he had one.

Tom Harrison vs Gareth Jones in a 80k pot

Board is Qh  10c 2h...

Tom shoves for 36k and Gareth dwells for a while before calling.

Tom flips over Ah Kh having flopped the world. Gareth shows A d Qd for top pair.

Turn of 8h crushes Gareth"s hopes.

Rob Swindells  pushes the turn on a  10h  8h 5c  7d board and gets snapped of by JJ.

Rob shows  Kd  10d but employs mad skillz and excellent player ranging and rivers the  10s.

Now on just shy of 100k

Sorry but my tech issues are back on the primary laptop so things might take a little longer.

Ian McKay shoves pre for 8k and is called by Tom Masterson

Ian shows   Ac 6c and Tom  9d 9h

Standard

Flop runs out  8s 3h 6h giving Ian a couple more outs but the turn  4h and river  Kd send him to the rail.

Rob Swindells vs Gareth James all in pre-flop as far as I can tell

Gareth has 77 while Rob has the mighty "bullets".

Ace on the flop crushes Gareth but a 7 on the turn gives him a slim chance.

Jack on the river and we lose Gareth

18 left, down to 2 tables once we balance out. That"ll mess up my table plan..damn!

D Farrell is Rob Swindells" latest victim

Jc  9c vs  Kc  8c

Not much help from the flop but the turn gave D straight draw but the river bricked.

Seems Zozzy went out during that kerfuffle but was quite quiet about it so no details unfortunately.

Down to 10 now.

FT soon I expect and we"ll add the usual break for re-draw and chipcounts.

Great final table line up there. Would have made for a good live stream for sure.

I think the winningest (is that a word) player is Rob Swindells, who"s playing for Team GNF in the upcoming UK Team Championship.

Good to see Bill Sheppard mark his first APAT Live cash with a final table too!.

Good luck to the remaining 9!

Mike Sharkey has been playing quite snug for a while which hasn"t stopped Dave Battersby from calling him off pre

Mike"s -  Qc  Qd  vs Dave"s  Jc Qs

I think Dave called a tad quick there to be honest.

Board is  9c  Jh  4d  5d  Kh and Mike doubles to c.370k

Dave Battersby  gets in as a shortstack and is called by Mike Sharkey

Dave has the ducks  2c  2d but Mike is in a prime spot with  10c  10s

The flop is  9h  6c  Jc and the turn  8s and the river  9s.

That"s it for Dave but the £590 will ease the pain I"m sure.

Feck...I no sooner have I typed that than

Scott pushes again and is called by Mike

Scott  Ac  Qh against Mike"s  A s Kd

Flop  7c  9d  3d

Turn  3s has Scott drawing very thin.

River  Jc seals his fate.

Scott now has some spending money for the Degen"s Poker Tour Portugal Extravagana (Invite only).

Big stacks clashing.

Mike against Rob

Raise pre by Rob called by Mike

Flop  2c  2d  5c

Rob bets 40k and is called by Mike

Turn  4d

Mike checks and rob bets 60k which is also called.

River is  Ks, Mike bets 125k and Rob shoves.

Mike asks for a count and it"s another 180k .

He makes the call and Rob shows  Ac  2s for the flopped trips.

I didn"t think Mike would show but he did --  4h  6c

Wow.

Mikes in action again this time against Car

A pre-flop raise from Carl is met by a shove from Mike which is called.

Carl has  Ah 10h which dominates Mike"s  Ks  10c

There"s an Ace in the window on a  Ac  2c  9s flop.

The turned  Ks is some relief but has Mike needing a miracle

Which doesn"t come -  3h on the river and we are now heads up.

Mike walks away with a nice new shiny Bronze Medal and a not insignificant £1190 for his trouble.

From APAT Leeds 11 Oct 2014

Level 22 now, co-incidentally - 15k/30k/3k

Heads up and it"s pretty even.

Rob has the slight advantage at just over 1m in chips but Carl isn"t far behind on c.850k

Boom.

Rob and Carl have been at it big styley.

Firstly

Pushes pre-flop and is called by Carl

Rob has an unexpected  10d  9s and Carl  A s  Qs

1.6 million pot.

Board is  7h  5s  5h  7c  Qh

Rob is left with c.175k but is at a 9-1 disadvantage now.
Title: Re: UK Amateur Poker Championship - Live Updates - Day 2

Secondly

Rob"s not messing around now..not that he can afford to.

All with  Ac  6h and is not surprisingly called by Carl who has  Qh  9c.

The cards come out

3d  8s  Ah  7c  7d and Rob doubles to 350k.

10 bigs...not great but not bad.

Here we go again..

Rob pushes from the button and is snapped by Carl.

Rob has  Qh  7c but Carl flips  Kd  Qc - Dominated!

Flop -  3s  Ks  2c has Rob reeling

Turn -  4d and a meaningless river  3d means we have a new APAT UK Champion in Carl Norris.

Another great showing from Rob Swindells who takes the silver and £1825.

Carl, of course, takes home the gold and the bacon with £2815 - and the title of UK Amateur Poker Champion.

Matt, thanks for that..... As usual a brilliant weekend of good APAT poker and banter. It feels so much better than previous ones for the obvious reason. And as Paulie said, why shouldn"t I be chuffed....  ;D

Just got back home. Was gutted at the time but on reflection happy with my first live medal. Ran god-like for 1.99 days and it would have been harsh on Carl if I had luck boxed HU.

Carl played great and thoroughly deserved the win.

Thanks to Tom and Paulie for their hard work.

The People"s Republic of Yorkshire finally hosted an APAT event, and whilst the close proximity to my house made this event a goer for me, I would be interested in what people thought of the venue.

Great to meet up with so many people (new and old) over the weekend. The APAT community spirit is just brilliantly unique and having not played an event for over a year I have sorely missed this.

See you all in Manchester!!

Congrats to all those who cashed and especially those who made the medals. Special mention for Zac Crosland who Final Tabled his first APAT main event, no mean feat. Chuffed for Bill Sheppard to finally make the cash in an APAT... and Rob, you are going to have to negotiate with your missus to let you out more  ;)

Thanks to Tom and Paulie for all your efforts, and as for the venue I thought it was absolutely fine except for the standard of some of the dealers. Obviously the better dealers are working into the early hours so they are not available at 2pm in the afternoon, but the young lad we had for the early levels was abysmal, enough said.

Just checking but

The winner of the UK Amateur Poker Championship will win an "added value" main event seat at the WCOAP, where the main event winner will earn the trip of a lifetime to Las Vegas in the summer of 2015.

Have I won this seat then? What are the details for that?

Well played Rob,(and all the other cashers)  looks like your run good continued. (Calling a 4 x BB raise with 7 5 :"()

Just like to say the updating was back to APAT standerd so well done to Tom & Paulie plus anyone else that helped out.

A bit of a low turnout, was expecting more runners from a well supported card room, may be a bit more advertising would have helped. But that did not deter from the APAT spirit.

Next stop Manchester (Yorkshire Yorkshire Yorkshire)

Another great apat tournament thanks to Tom and Paulie for running everything so smoothly Thanks also to Tom for convincing me that a trip to Dublin would be a good idea , we"ll have to see , depends how much my kids cost me over Christmas  :). Well done all the players who cashed I have to mention Scott who however now lives in Cornwall but is a Plymouth boy and Rob who came second . He frightened me to death on my table when play started , I certainly wasn"t getting involved with him unless I hit hard, a very good player. Well played Rob , Frazer .

Here is an odd one....

Thanks for the thanks from some of the other players who have already posted..

I had a really great weekend and anybody who sat at the same table as me knows that I like a drink and it was a killer not having any on the Sunday as whatever happened I still had to drive home.

I am "chuffed" as Paulie put it and I am happy that others have congratulated me on here as I do not get many live cashes, this making it maybe about 6 or 7 in nearly five years of live play but it is playing in the tournaments and atmosphere of an APAT one that I feel has helped improve my game more...

I"m not sure if we had the same dealer as Ian did but I heard that most of them were brand new, one only being in the job for FIVE days and they did fine enough for me... Hopefully they took on board the advice given by some of the more experienced players on the tables and take it as a learning curve. The TD was helping them a bit, especially with some of the bigger chip counts and he appeared quite patient with them so it can only help I suppose....

It"ll be a while for my next one now... Coventry more than likely....
Title: Re: UK Amateur Poker Championship - Live Updates - Day 2
Post by: Paulie_D on October 13, 2014, 15:27:54 PM
On the turnout front it was a little disappointing especially as Yorkshire had been on the "request list" for some time amongst the APAT regs.

We were affected by the fact that the G Merrion, also in Leeds, was putting on a £50 / 30k stack comp (with one rebuy) on the same day and DTD was also putting on a £125 event too.

We lose some players who can"t commit to a 2-day event and would rather play a worse structure (in my opinion) because it"ll be over in one day.

On the casino staffing front, I had my niggles but overall I though the cardroom staff managed pretty well. Patrick, the manager, has only been in place for 6 weeks so he still working out a few bugs and staffing issues..including some sickness problems on the day.

The buffet not being ready for the break was poor...the kitchen / serving staff had ample notice of when it was expected and missed it by a good 30 minutes (as we got started late).

Big ups to Tom for sticking to the APAT line on not paying the bubble...when asked why we don"t his answer was cracking..."because it"s the bubble".

Despite some quite vocal objections from one particular person the bubble was NOT paid as they couldn"t get unanimous support for it. Thanks to Rob S for that...it cut through all the cr*p.

I confess to an internal (and entirely personal, not APAT-official) grin when the most vocal proponent of the bubble being paid left with a min cash.

My first outing as an "official" updater...hope you liked it....and they are right, it"s a lot more work than it looks!
