Title: What is a Debit Card?
Post by: Jon MW on July 25, 2008, 13:36:23 PM
... because the drop down list for payment to enter the WCOAP events now seems to only have Delta, Electron and Maestro as payment options.

I was under the impression that my Barclays, "Visa Connect Debit" card was in fact a Debit Card.

If this is wrong I shall try and buy in on the day as the bank doesn"t seem to have too much intention of supplying more than one debit card, if not could the options be changed because when I tried a couple of times to pay it definitely didn"t like the options I was choosing.

NB: If there"s just a temporary problem with the payment I could try again later but it still doesn"t seem like Delta, Electron and Maestro should be the choices for Debit Card Type.

I have a Lloyds TSB Visa Debit and the payment link accepts it as a Delta.........

Tried that and Maestro - like I said it might just be a problem with the payment processor rather than that.

But if it is the payment processor then I"d like to know so that I can try again later, and whenever I"ve set up an online shop I"ve never put the card types down like that - doesn"t seem right.

I bought into the Stud event yesterday and Visa was defo one of the options, so maybe it"s a temporary glitch.

dunno what"s happened there..... I paid with a MasterCard credit card..... but just went back to link to check, and it"s not on the list. Had my confirmation from Metacharge, and Des confirmed my entry, so it must have gone through OK.

how strange...

We go debit card only for this evening"s buy in.  A Barclay"s debit card is a delta card to my knowledge and should work fine.

Can I confirm that a Visa Debit card will work if put under delta?

It was obviously a temporary glitch I"ll try again later.

Can I draw the metacharge people"s attention to this: Visa Delta (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visa_Delta)

Perhaps they could code their pages accurately in future rather than with out of date information?

Prior to October 2004 the (Visa) debit card was known as Visa Delta

Thats interesting as I used to work at a call centre handling customers payments and never heard anything like the above. Its usually Electron that isn"t accepted.

I would say look up your prefix on the internet - prefix being the first 4 digits of your 16 didget number. Only look up the first 4 digits and you"ll get some background on the type of card. It will probably come up as "Visa Delta".

Havent used the APAT payment system myself but I would probably say try and submit a payment under delta.

Hope this is useful.

I did try it under Delta, so no I think it was just a temporary glitch.

FWIW I think the options should say:
Visa Debit
Visa Electron
Maestro

These being the actual names of the 3 types of debit card you can get in the UK, but the actual label shouldn"t make a difference as long as the validation behind it was sound.

In that case I would ring the payment processor and winge!

all you gotta do is try using the delta option, and if that doesn"t work.... well you"ll have at least six seconds of the clickfest left to try something else!!

Of course clickfest and debit/credit cards are of no concern to me for this one  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

You"re not funny.

I tried again before the APAT site went down and I think it went through, all being well I should now be entered into all 4 WCOAP tournaments  ;D
