The TD is making his final announcements and then we will shuffle up and deal. Players are still registering but we have about 30 runners to start. If I can get a table draw I will post it here but the seat draw isnt computerised unfortunately.

Lots of shouts of "Chips!" after the first hand.

Nobody"s out though :)

A lot of players are taking their second stack straight away instead and doubling up first hand.

David Pilkington was one of the players who did not take his second stack straight away and as a result, he is still in the tournament, albeit with only 20k left and no more bullets.

I arrived at the table to see David raise to 150 preflop, only to see Michael Mason raise to 500. Ger Smyth then called from the BB and Pilkington also put in the required number of chips to see the flop, which was 2s 9d 8d. Ger checked and Dave led into the 3-bettor for 800. Michael quickly raised to 2000 and Ger folded. David decided to call.

The turn was the  A s and Pilkington checked. Mason bet 5k and I"ve never seen the Irritating Man sound so confident as he check-raised pot, which was 20,525, leaving Dave about 1000 back. Somehow, Mason made the call!

The river was the 5d, completing the flush, straight and straight flush. A disappointed Dave shook his head, sighed and bet the last 1k. Michael obviously called and Dave showed Ah Ac x x for top set. Sadly for him, Mason had rivered the flush with Qd Jd x x and scooped the 45k pot, leaving Pilkington cashing in his second stack.

It"s a bit more sedate on table 3, where I headed over to see Sean Lassman limp. Asa McGrath raised to 175 from the button and Gary Phillips called from the BB. LAssman flicked in the call and we went 3-way to a flop of 6c 7d 7s.

It was checked to McGrath who bet 300. Phillips folded his hand and Lassman called. The turn was the 2c and both players checked. The river was the 5c and Lassman checked. McGrath bet 600 and Lassman, with a grimace, called. Asa turned over  Ac 7c 3c Ah for the nut flush, with Lassman only having Ad A s 6h x for two pair.

We have just begun level 2 - 50/100. 45 players are currently registered and players are still arriving, registering and joining us.

Still nobody is out yet but Dave Pilkington seems to be in a hand every time I head over in that direction. In the latest trip, Ger Smyth raised pot (350) UTG to the loud protests of the BB, a Mr Stuart Ward, only to see Pilkington, along with the local in the cutoff and Michael Mason on the button, call. Naturally Ward called for value and we were 5-way to the flop of 7s 3d 4d.

It was checked to Dave who bet 500. Mason and Smyth called and the other two players folded. The turn was the 3h and all checked. The river was the 7c and Ger checked. Dave bet 1700 and Mason quickly passed. Ger resignedly called and was shown A-7-K-T by Dave, which was enough to win the hand, as Ger only held J-7-8-9.

As I was getting the chip counts, Richard Baker described his table as "bingo" and said he"d seen 4 all ins within the first 45 minutes. Matt Carter was sat at the other end of the table and later explained that he had been the beneficiary, and doubled up within the first 10 minutes because of this.

There will be a 20 minute break at the end of this level. An Omaha cash game has already been set up to take place during the break!

55 entrants so far.

55 entrants still in.

JP Round has just scooped a nice pot. I got there whilst the action was preflop to see that a very shortstacked Eamon Kelly had raised pot UTG+1 to 1400. JP called along with 3 locals and we went 5-way to the flop.

The flop was a drawtastic 9s Js Qh and Eamon pushed his remaining stack all in for a bet of 2700. JP flat called and one of the locals also called. The turn was the 2c and JP bet 5k into a dry side pot, and he was rewarded with a call. The river was the 3h and JP bet 7k with the same result, a quick call.

JP declared nuts and showed Ad Kd 10d 6d to scoop, with both players mucking their hands, and Eamon cashed in his orange chip to receive his second 20k stack.

Fun event and fun table with JP "he scores when he wants" Round, Mark Lassman and some locals. Guinness is nice here. I have some chips, JP has more. Mark is trying to make prop bets on other players with odds.

There was a commotion at table 2 so naturally I went to investigate.

It turns out that David Pilkington had min raised Ger Smyth"s big blind. So nothing important then.

Except it was...as a local called the bet, Pat Barry also called and Stu Ward called. Ger obviously called and 5 players saw a Jh 2h Kh flop.

It went mental.Stu open-folded to start it off and Ger checked. Dave bet 2000 and the local raised to 6k. Pat Barry then shoved all in and Ger was in pain. He decided discretion was the better idea and passed eventually, with Pilkington"s cards beating him into the muck. The local only had 10k back before his flop and chucked in his remaining 4k.

Barry had Qh 6h x x and the local had 7h 5h 8c 9c, drawing dead. The dealer dealt the redundant 5d and Qd on the turn and river and the local cashed in for his second stack.

Paul Davis has just lost his first stack to Ger Smyth in a horrible cooler. Paul flopped a full house on a T-T-4 flop holding T-4-5-6, but Ger turned a King holding K-K-x-x and it all went in.

Paul Davis - 20k.

Number of entrants is now 61 and still rising.

Dave Pilkington has somehow managed to get his stack up to 45k. The rest of the table and everyone else is befuddled.

Within 5 minutes of the restart, we lost 5 players including Steve Roderick and Dave Pilkington, with the latter getting it all in with middle set against a bare up and down straight draw, which binked on the turn. Dave managed to miss all his outs on the river and departed to jeers from assorted players (namely Ward, Smyth and Carter :P)

Roy"s a good lad and a big sports tipster I believe.  He had some big results in his day of course, but of the last 24 it"s Scott Gray who has the greatest single achievement finishing 4th in the 2002 WSOP main event.

Best of luck to all players today, particularly the travelling contingent.

Scott Gray has doubled through Anton Nestresko with K-K-5-2 against Anton"s T-T-J-7 all in preflop despite sweating the 9-2-8 flop. A four on the turn and another four on the river were enough to send the pot the way of the 2002 WSOP final tablist and put him up to 50k.

Still 24 left but, more importantly, the bar is open.

Michael Mason is out in 24th.

Asa McGrath raised UTG to 8k, only to see Willo Connolly, Anton Nestresko and Mason call. The flop was 6h Qd 2h and Mason, first to act, open shoved his remaining 23k. McGrath then isolated with a pot sized raise and the other 2 players folded their hands.

McGrath - Qh Qc 10d 10c
Mason - Ks Qs 6s 5h

Mason was drawing dead to running Kings or sixes as Asa had flopped top set with the one remaining queen, and was out the door as the 9s turn hit. The river was the meaningless 9h, sending the pot Asa"s way and meaning we are one player closer to the money.

Asa McGrath - 200k.

Willo Connolly has patiently grinded her short stack since the start of the day, and got it all in preflop for a 25k pot with T-Q-T-5 against Gabor Gelleri"s J-8-8-5. The flop of A-T-2 was overkill and the 5 turn saw Gabor drawing dead.

Willo Connolly - 25k

Pat Flood is out in 23rd.

Noel Mitchell had raised UTG to 10k and got 2 callers in Flood and Mark Lassman. The flop came 9h Ad 6h and Mitchell led for 15k. Lassman called only to see Flood shove all in for 40k. Mitchell pretty quickly repotted and Lassman eventually folded with a grimace on his face.

Mitchell had Kh Qh Kc 9d and Flood was ahead with Qd Jd 9s 6c but the Jc on the turn was a bad card despite improving Flood"s hand. The 10h on the river was the deal breaker, giving Mitchell Broadway and sending Flood to the rail.

Noel Mitchell - 300k.

Richard Baker has eliminated Willo Connolly in 22nd. They got it all in blind on blind preflop, with Willo"s Kh Kd 6c 2c ahead against Baker"s 9d 8d 8s 5s, but Baker won the hand after turning two pair on a 6s 10s 5c 9h Ad board.

Richard Baker - 110k.

Colin Wilson has not had a good start today. Firstly, the bar was closed. Secondly, he is under 100k and John Donnelly appears to be the beneficiary, as he is over 200k from his 87500 starting stack today.

Colm Faulkner is our runaway chip leader as he has just KO"d John Donnelly in 20th. No hand details unfortunately, but the hand puts Faulkner over 500k and leaves us with 19 left.

Blinds are now 2500/5000.

Gabor Gelleri is out in 19th. He got it all in preflop against Anton Nestresko holding Kc 9c Jh 8h, but  sadly for him, Anton had Ah 4h Ad 7c and this held on the 9h 7d 5c 5s Qh board.

As Gabor was exiting the tournament, Mark Furlong was crippled in a hand against Eamonn Kelly. I joined the hand on the turn of a 5h 7d 2s 8d board, where Kelly had bet 55k and Furlong was all in for 120k. Kelly went into the tank and eventually called, revealing a surprising A s 4s 3c 6s. Furlong could only show 8h 8c 6c 5c and the 10c river was no help.

Furlong was left with about 2bb and this went in on the next hand against Rory Keogh. Furlong did not win this hand and left us in 18th.

Mark Lassman has been eliminated in 17th place. He 3-bet to 62k over a raise from Eamonn Kelly, only to see Kelly push all in. Lassman, who only had 35k back, called and opened J-J-T-9 but Kelly had A-A-K-8.

The door card was a Jack but unfortunately there was an Ace underneath it and the set of Aces held on the board of A-5-J-7-3 and Lassman headed for the PLO8 side event.

The TD is currently breaking a table and we now have 16 players left.

Gary Phillips has been eliminated in 16th place. He limped in EP only to see Richard Baker raise to 11k. BB Glen McCabe called and Gary flicked in the call. The flop was 5c 10h Js and Glen open shoved 35k first to act. Gary also had 35k and called all in. Baker also called and all 3 turned over their cards.

Baker: A-K-J-T
Phillips: A-K-Q-7
McCabe: J-J-Q-5

McCabe"s set was ahead but the other two players had straight outs. Neither hit though on the 8c turn and 8d river, improving McCabe"s hand to a full house and trebling him up in the process. Phillips headed to the side event and Baker took a hit.

Glen McCabe - 140k
Richard Baker - 90k
Gary Phillips - OUT.

Play has slowed down since the break with not many hands going to showdown. The average stack is around 30bbs and most of the shortstacks are on the same table, leading to a situation where one table is grinding and the other table with all the chips are just passing chips around as their stacks are too deep to get it in without coolers.

Asa McGrath has bust in 14th place.

He never recovered after the big hand vs Colin Wilson just before the break and blinded down to 70k before getting it all in preflop with J-J-6-5 against Scott Gray"s A-A-8-2.

The A-A held on the Q-3-T-6-8 board and we have 13 players left, with 9 of them getting paid. Asa, on the other hand...has headed straight into the PLO8, with 2 mins left for late reg.

Ken McBride has exited in 12th, losing to Colin Wilson.

Ken only had 41k at the start of the hand and he was in the bb for 10k. It was folded to Colin in the SB and he raised to 20k. Ken shoved and Colin was priced in to call.

Ken McBride: Ac 7c Jd 10d
Colin Wilson: A s Ks 3c 9d

The flop would have ensured all the money had gone in anyway, as it was 10c 7s 4s, giving Ken 2 pair and Colin the nut flush draw. Colin didnt need two cards to hit though, the 8s turn meaning Ken had 4 outs for the redraw. He didn"t hit though, the river being the 5s, and we are now down to 11 with 9 getting paid.

We will be going hand-for-hand when the next person exits.

And we are hand-for-hand.

I arrived at Table 3 to see an all in preflop. Noel Mitchell had naturally gone all in with Ad Ah 7d 4h, but Eamonn Kelly had turned up with A s Ac Kc 5s and managed to scoop the pot by rivering the flush on the Jc 3s 9h 10c 9c board.

Final table!

I arrived at Colin Wilson"s table to see a flop of 6-K-6 and Glen McCabe was all in for 40k (the pot was 120k so I assume there was serious action preflop). Colin snapped. As you do with 6-6-x-x. The turn was a J and Glen"s K-J-x-x was dead, which means that he was eliminated in 10th place, and we have our final table.

Roy Brindley raised to 60k from late position and got one caller in Eamonn Kelly. The flop was 3c 9c 9h and both players checked. Eamonn then bet 60k on the 7s turn and Roy called. The river was the 10s and Eamonn checked. Roy checked behind and showed Q-6-9-3ds, which was enough to take the pot as Eamonn could only show A-K-J-T with clubs.

Huge thanks to Adam for not only doing all the updating but for writing the event report for me - thank you mate.

A few firsts for APAT...

PLO Main Event...

Amateur Poker Championship held in an hotel...

David Pilkington got a round in...

Ger looked sober (he wasn"t)...

NLHE Side Event still going on, and cash table, so it"s not over for us yet, but overall I think well worth doing - although I would like to confirm now that PLO will NOT be the Main Event for the Season 9 Irish Amateur Poker Championship.

Also huge thanks to Larry for managing the overall event here - tables, dealers, TDs, etc, and to Presty and Kim for event registration and cash desk etc.

Until next time... (Coventry I think!)

The GPI describe him as SCOTT "THE ICE MAN" GRAY

Any poker player with a nickname as their middle name on GPI must be a pro.

Right ?   ;D

Whichever way it"s perceived, it"s done now anyway.  The whole "pro player" status thing has self-policed itself pretty well over the last 8 years.

Maybe one got through in Dublin, then again, maybe not.

Anyway, I"ve got an article to write about the best European Poker Pro"s homing in on Coventry next weekend.   ;D
