As anybody been to the new casino in Leeds?
I believe it's at Clarence Dock but I cannot find anything on it on the net.
Is it a Grosvenor casino?
As it got a poker room?
Will APAT be going there?
Do any of the local APAT'S fancy trying it out?

http://www.aleacasinos.com/alea/leeds/index.html
Might be worth a visit, but from the website there"s not much info about poker. Plenty of info about their bars and restaurant though - doesn"t fill me with confidence.
-
The site is not very good, will have to go down and find out

Wayne, the site is utter pants.
There is, however, a mail address (pokerleeds@aleacasinos.com) on the website should anyone want details of poker at that venue.
Edit: the above mail address is also pants. Try infoleeds@aleacasinos.com

I"m very interested in going along (but only if they have banned the playing of AJ :-\)
-
Wayne and Stuart, I"ve mailed them asking about their schedule, structure, buy ins etc. I"ll let you know what I get back. Might be worth a visit....

Thanks Ian

Reply received from the Alea casino in Leeds....
Poker tournaments are commencing on 22nd September (Monday), registration from 7pm-7.45 pm (or any time in cashdesk), start at 8pm, and are as follows:
Monday- £15 no limit Hold'em Deepstack Freezeout 10.000 chips
Tuesday- £10 no limit Hold'em Second Chance 5.000 chips
Wednesday- £40 no limit Hold'em Freezeout Bounty 10.000 chips
Friday- £25 no limit Hold'em Triple Chance 5.000 chips
Sunday- £30 no limit Hold'em Second Chance 5.000 chips
I"ve requested more details about the Monday and Wednesday tournaments, blind structure and clock etc.
-
i hope its an improvement on the rest of the poker scene in leeds. for a big city the scene is terrible! from what i have heard of the casino though i think its meant to be a night out first a casino second, not sure where poker fits into that as well.
worth a go though no doubt

That"s the impression I got from just looking at the web site.
-
Received the following reply tonight....
Hi Ian,
The Monday and Wednesday tournaments have 20 minute blind levels starting at 25/50.
The rebuy tournaments start at 50/100. First two levels of this are 40 minutes, then 20 minute blind levels after that.

opps, looks like another mail to the casino.....

looks like a decent structure (self or dealer dealt) for a casino. may have to have a look over half term.
-
Definately up for a visit if anybody else is going to go please let me know
-
I am hoping to go down this Saturday to make myself a member and have a nosey around
-
I"d join you Wayne, but the Ryder Cup is on the telly this weekend. I"ll await your feedback.
-
Good point I forgot about that
I am not planning on playing, just that I would be passing so I was going to call in and make myself a member. Will let you know what I think of the place (if I do go).
-
The Alea in Glasgow apparently has some good games most nights but I"ve still not paid it a visit yet.

Further info from Gareth at Leeds Alea.....
We have a few dealers so the intention is that the latter parts of the tournaments will be dealer dealt.
We are also providing dealer dealt cash games with a rake of 10% capped at £5 on hands after the flop - discounted to 5% through September and October

thought id give you lovely people an update on this casino as i went last night...
my origional thoughts were unfounded, the casino has its own poker room away from the casino floor which holds ten tables with room for two more. it also has the potential to hold more tables in other parts of the casino if ever apat was to come calling.... des?
the place is huge its on at least three floors and very flash.
as already noted they have a decent array of tounaments... i was asking about and they got 73 for last mondays tournament and are expecting to improve on that as word gets round... all the previous runners and results can be found through a link on www.rockpokeronline.com (apparently, not checked it out yet)
oh, and if anybody is in the area they have a deepstack £150 tournament on the 1st and 2nd of nov, which looks to have a nice look to it...especially as the standard in leeds from my experience isn"t the greatest.
-
Anybody fancy the monday night tourny next week?
-
How late will it finish?
I am looking to start playing more live poker and this looks a perfect place as I live about 5 miles away. If not this Monday then very soon
-
i played the £25 triple chance on friday and it is the best poker room in leeds by far, would be awesome if they had dealers.
also helps that i chopped for £805
will be playing alot there as it is only 10 minutes from my house
-
will be there tonight if anybody is there.... third time in 5 days, lol
the monday night tournament finishes around half 2
-
I am off work next week so I am hoping to play one night.
I don't play live (out side of APAT)
£10 double chance, is this a £20 game? Or is it a £10 game?

A £10 game. You get half your chips at the start and can take the other half when ever you want (up to normally the first 2 levels - then you get the other half whether you want them or not) I just take them all at the start, so its really a "double stack - single chance" tourney for me.
-
I was going to ask this question too, so the 25 pound triple chance, is this 25 pound to play or is it run as 25 in and then up to 2 25 pound rebuys? some places do double or triple chance differently

ahhh the most confusing tournament in live poker... this is actually a double/triple chance in terms of rebuys...therefore if you exercised all your 3 chances in would cost u £75. this usually differs from casino to casino but i know that this one in particular, this is the case... hope that helps!
-
Thank you, i know some double chance tournys like swinebag says are done where u get half ur chips at the start and then the others either when u lose half ur stack or at the break and then other casinos just class them as rebuys, cheers for clearing that up

I have been in the Mrs P good books and as a reward she as granted me a night out on my own. :) So I am off to try this casino tonight. £40 freezout, 10,000 chips. Are any other APAT'S going? Sir Percival may make it.
Does anybody know the levels/clock?

I really wish people could give a bit more notice when these added value tournaments are on. It"s only 4 hours in the car for me and I would have been there if I had known. :(

Just thought I"d give you a quick summary of last night"s event.
Casino is very nice. On 3 floors with several bars ;D and all the staff I spoke to were very friendly and helpful. The poker room is on the 3rd floor away from the main casino and is quite roomy.
£40+£4 freezeout, around 35-40 players, 10,000 starting chips, 20 minute clock.
blind levels went 25/50, 50/100, 150/300, 200/400, 300/600, 400/800 and then I was knocked out :(
It was self dealt and there were plenty of experienced players willing to deal.
For those interested in the cards - nosey went out very early when trips beat his ac ah.
I lost most of my chips in level 5 when my tc td was no good to a :as: ks with a rivered ah. I then nursed a short stack for a while until eventually my :2d: :2c: was beaten by ac td with a :as: on the flop.
Hope to visit again soon as overall it was a good experience. there is a £150 2-day event on soon but unfortunatly it is on the same weekend as the european championships so I won"t be there but good luck to any APAT"ers that are.
Stuart
p.s. Ian, I won a big pot with :as: jd on a 8d 9c 4s flop with a check-raise :o
-
I echo what Stuart as said, good casino, good staff, and grate poker room
As for the play, well all the players on my table all new each other, the pots was always 4/5 way. With some very loose play
Two examples
I was dealt kc kd early position; raised 5x big blind get 4 callers, A on the flop (hand dead)
This was the norm for this table, some one raise 3-4 people call
Level at 100/200 dealt ah :as: in early position, this time I limp hoping to re-raise, get three callers plus the BB. kd 7h :3c: rainbow flop, so I bet out 1000, he moves all-in. the other 3 fold, so I put him on AK. If he had two pair or set he would have just called or may be minimum raise (right or wrong?) so I called he turns over 77
Will defiantly be back
-
After reading this back to myself, if he had AK he would have raised pre flop?
With a middle pair you would just call hoping to hit your set
It was the all in that confused me
-
the friday night tourney is a goldmine if you can afford £50/75 and like playing aggressively, although not sure why i am telling you this....
probably going again this friday to see if i can do the hat-trick, will definitely be playing the £150 deepstack on the 1st Nov
