Great picks!  I can"t listen to music while playing as the computer is in the family room.  Ipod would be no good either as I"d probably still sing along and dance away in my chair.  Already get into enough trouble yelling "SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIP" and "UGHHHH...BAD BEAT" at the end of hands...even other people"s hands.  Our 11 year old daughter has been recently heard using the same lines when playing with her friends.  lol

Jem"s Finally Woken is usually on repeat on my iPod when playing live - don"t ask why... just happened to have it on one night when won a live tourney, and now it"s become a bit of a superstition.

At home tend to keep to soft rock or old swing music - if I stay mellow I tend to play a little tighter and with more thought. My usual music preferences just don"t seem to suit my poker, and if listening to the likes of Iron Maiden or ACDC, I get the urge to play far to aggressively and bomb out of tourney"s early, or donk away my cash stack.

Funny how music can have such an influence on your mood!

I just have background music on when working and playing online poker, usually the free live streaming of SoloPianoRadio (http://www.solopianoradio.com).

Other music distracts me and affects my mood too much. If it"s an angry song, I play aggressively etc. so this piano / chilling music (turned down low) keeps me calm and patient. Each to their own I suppose.

I tend to listen to my MP3 player immediately before a live tournament and "Top of the World" by The Wildhearts is the track I tend to turn to. I"ve not got any strict rules about what I play to myself at home, although I tend not to listen to Slipknott as that puts in completely the wrong frame of mind. My regular online tourney albums are "Out of the Blue" by ELO, The Best of The Specials, "We"re Outta here" by The Ramones, "Everything is Wrong" by Moby, "Diesel and Dust" by Midninght Oil, "Ashes to Dust" by William Elliot Whitmore and "Once" by Nightwish.

Timbaland"s Shock Value is a great Poker Album -

Although i like to listen to UK Hip Hop and drum and Bass whilst playing Live, Also the very best of MTV Unplugged - great mellow album that helps me to relax!

And at home, playing online, 10,000 Songs from classic to Hard House - shuffle up and let it roll!

I listen to pretty much anything while I am playing but after having a quick look at my most played songs the top 27 are all Bruce Springsteen songs. I may have a slight addiction.

Well, I have only heard this song once or twice since it is his latest song but I had never seen the video. Quite frankly, I wish I hadn"t. I should"ve heeded your warning.
At the start when his head slowly emerges from the water. That is one of the creepiest things I have ever seen.

I don"t really listen to music when playing live. I"ve tried it a couple of times but I like to concentrate on every hand and what everybody"s doing during the hands when playing live and music takes away my concentration. Still do it the odd time but not much.

When playing online though i"ll listen to music. And I believe it"s true that music has great power over how you act/play - depending on how I want to play or how i"m playing at that point in time i"ll listen to an array of different music. All sorts like:

Lykke Li --- been listening to album a lot recently
Frank Sinatra
The Eagles
MGMT
Oasis
The Chemical Brothers
Rusko / Benga / Tayo (& various other Dubsteppy stuff)
Various dance DJ mixes

Having only just mentioned "The Boss", I should probably say to anyone interested that I just received an e-mail saying that Springsteen"s new single "Working on a Dream" is available for free download off his website and iTunes for today only.

Even better news is that his new album of the same title is going to be released on 27th January.

To put it simply, I can"t wait.

I agree, I"ve never seen him live and I  hear that it"s quite an experience so I am going to make sure I make it to one of his gigs this time round.

I would not bet against this new Springsteen track winning the Oscar for best song, from The Wrestler starring Micky Rourke, to be released at the end of the year.

i think if bruce tweaks the lyrics a wee bit it would be a world wide buster of a magnitude never seen since thriller.
All those great lyrics comparing himself to - a one trick pony,a one legged dog??,a one armed man,a one eyed man and the old classic a one legged man, the boss really only has to make a subtle change here - have you ever seen a one legged man in a arse kicking contest , then you"ve seen me , then you"ve seen meeeeee

gr8 stuff  ;D

lol....i think he was referring to Micky Rouke"s character in the Wrestler, but I think he may have missed a trick leaving out the arse kicking verse...gotta give you that.

I want this as my poker theme tune

Specifically I have in mind that this is the theme tune to be played over the montage of clips of me playing in the run up to my WSOP Main Event win.

But in the absence of that I"ll just have it as my general poker theme tune :D

I have to agree with you there. It"s a great, yet heartbreaking song like so many that Springsteen has done in the past. It seems like the kind of thing that the Oscar judges would like. Even if he doesn"t win it, he has still got his Oscar from 1993 (I had to look that up to get the year right, I was only 3 at the time so I should be excused for not knowing off the top of my head).

Not a bad choice Jon , but for me a John Barry classic would sound great in the background on espn wsop 2009 as they showed me donking my way through the fields of professionals and inflicting Horrendous suck out after suck out and all with a touch of class and a big grin from ear to ear  ;D

From what I"ve read "Gran Torino" and "Sweet Ballad" are also very strong contenders for the award along with "The Boss", but I haven"t heard them myself.

I will hoping Bruce wins it, but as long as he doesn"t lose out to High School Musical then I will accept his defeat.

In our pub games you will often find someone having to make an exit to the sounds of "Bye Bye Baby" by the Bay City Rollers blasting out from a mobile phone, other popular exit tunes include "I love it when you call" (the feeling) or the Abba Classic "Winner Takes It All". Lousy etiquette but very funny the first few times and usually (not always) taken in good humour.

Outlaw Pete; weighing in at just over 8 minutes long, off Springsteen"s new album which is released later this month.

I think there is even a mention for Kinboshi in there.
