Title: How can people multi table at once?
Post by: LongshanksED on November 27, 2008, 21:43:43 PM
im struggling

at the moment im playing 3 tourneys

1 a 5 euro rebuy on virign
1 a $10 satellite on gala
and a $5 tourney with $7000 guaranteed

not made too many mistakes yet, above average chips in the 2 gala games and the virign game is full off guys going all in with K5 suited and QJoff etc so im not too bothered about sitting rock like in that until the break

managed to avoid a few big confrontations early on but its hectic stuff trying to keep an eye on all 3 tables at once - dunno how guys can do 6,8 or 10 tables sometimes

sitting 4th place UTG with 6500 (ish chips) and dealt AK hearts

mid position with similar chip count (350 less than me) tanks then goes all in at the last second, everyone folds to me - i think for a bit but cant put him on anything as i just joined the final table and not played him yet.... then call

he shows AK spades

rags board but 1 spade
rag turn but adds a 2nd spade to the board

virgin rebuy

final 6

300/600 blinds

cut off and short stack of 6,600 with 99

shove all in and button calls showing A 10 off

looking good up until the river where the Ace spikes - ********

on gala $5 7000 guaranteed - sitting on 6000 chips, average chips and 140 out of 212 runners left (started at 1672)

card dead since the 1st break and only found 1 position to steal and 1 position to win with a hand 77 - otherwise sitting quiet at the moment but still in it

ground my virgin up by 10 euros overall for the night with other tourneys and sng"s

gala $5 tourney - couldnt make a move for alot of limpers when i have weak hands or 2 people all in when i have decent hands (high pairs and suited face cards) and cant call so im down to final 120

blinds 500/1000

99 in the cut off with 6000 - shove all in

bb with ..................... 3,5 and calls

A 9 10 rainbow
2 turn
4 river

thanks for that - got $20 for my 5 - 1,700 for 1st place was firmly in my eyes too

I don"t play on the Boss network (e.g. Virgin) as I found it particularly poor for multi-tabling.

For me PokerStars is easily the best site for multi-tabling in terms of the software, and even ipoker hsa improved so that it"s easier to multi-table when I"m playing cash games.

How do you keep track of all the players, betting patterns, relative chip stacks etc when multitabling, given the small amount of time you have when it"s your turn to act ?

I have just started to play cash games £0.5/1 level and i have come across one person who multi tables 20+.  How he does that I have no idea - more than one player perhaps.  I"d be very grateful if anyone who multi tables could give those of us just starting out a guide to the art.  I guess a big screen is needed but is there anything else?  I have had a go at 4 tables  and that is pretty demanding for me.  Maybe that just says something about my intellectual capacity!!

Many thanks in advance,

Kay

I actually play better when I multi-table.  If I"m only on one table, I tend to get distracted by forums, email, other websites, the telly, anything.  This is especially true during the early stages of an MTT.

I do think there is a threshold over which your hourly rate drops though.  For me the most I can effectively multi-table is about 4.

I"ve always gotta have at least two tables running but a lot of times three and sometimes four. If I"ve only got one running i"m the same as Kinboshi - start doing other things and don"t concentrate and end up donking away money. I like playing two mostly because can definitely keep track of what two tables are doing but cuts out a lot of the boredom - when I get to three and four tables it"s just ABC poker and positional play - no fancy 3 or 4 bets, squeeze plays, big bluffs etc...

I can multitable sng"s pretty easily but as im fairly new to cash find it harder as im not always certain what the right play is and u dont get as much time. Turbo sit n gos i think are pretty easy to multitable from as little as four games to as many as 15. If i play one game sit n go or cash though i tend to play too many hands but at the same time you have a better idea of whats going on at the table so maybe can get away with it a little.

I multitable 4, but I worked up from 1 at a time v e r y   s l o w l y, even so, if I time out of any table, then it"s down to 3 for the rest of the session.  I also use the auto-fold button straight away if I"m not intending to play a hand, and move up cash game limits one table at a time rather than all 4 at once.  Sometimes it gets a bit busy on all 4 tables, but normally things are ok, and I still manage to take notes.

Also, I keep detailed records of every session, so I can see where my tipping point is for profitability, as there"s an optimum number of tables for everybody.  As you play more tables, your winrate goes down, but it"s compensated for by the increased number of hands up to a certain point.

One day I"d love to be doing 6 or 8 at a time, but 4 is fine for now!  And it"s all I can fit on my monitor..!

Well it will definately be more then just one big screen, probably something like 1 big screen + 3~5 flatscreens.

Article below may help you to set something like this up if thats yours or anyone elses objective for the future. Its dated but covers the basics.

http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/36/stt-strategy/nc-logistics-multi-tabling-250512/ is a bit more recent and will get yer started on AHKs, scripts and all that garbage! But given the changes Party Poker made to promote multitabling I think alot more sites will be trying to outdo each other soon enough!
